Yeah, the space battle can be very bitter.

I suppose 'When in doubt, go forward' is a decent advice.

Saved by a stroke of luck. Seems fitting for the group.

Weren't they stuck in plane space? I really thought that they had no escape and would have to wait for another ship to enter their zone to be saved (assuming that a mine wouldn't first)

They got really lucky there. Well it's not like they had much choice. The enemy would have most likely annihilated them instead of accepting surrender, might as well gamble if the bubble was a friend or foe. At least that's 50-50 chance.

They still had fuel just after the mine attack, they just kept their space-time bubble stationary to conduct emergency repairs. It was only after Basroil separated from Seigroil and travelled for over 10 hours that they began to run out of fuel (and it will be the end of them if they run out of fuel since they will not be able to maintain their space-time bubble).

That was a pretty harsh situation. My regards to those aboard the bridge of the Siegroil.

I don't necessarily think "when unsure, go forward" is good as general advice, but in that situation it definitely was. They would have died anyway if they ran out of fuel, and it's not like they could avoid the enemy forever.

Laughter is an excellent stress reliever. I'm glad Lafiel shared what she did with Jinto.

They didn't mention it, but I wonder if the other crew brought over supplies when they abandoned ship.

How could that be intuition?
Weren't they left behind because they can't keep the same pace after taking damage but still maintaining the same direction as the main fleet? Those at their back wiped their ally so the best course of action is to keep going forward which is the most presumable direction of the fleet they split from. Maintaining the same last known course is what you'd do when you ask someone to catch up and leave their vision.
The always go forward reasoning irks me.

Their course could've been offset by damage and after the merger. Also, they were crawling, so enemies could come from forward direction while "dancing" around immobilized units.

This was the episode that stuck with me the most when I watched this a decade ago, and it is still better than the episodes that came before it. What's different for this episode is that its an anime original not found in the novel. You can see the creators of the anime have more freedom in how they construct a story and made something that worked extremely well for television.

This was quite the gamble but it seemed pretty likely the back bubbles were enemies (considering they destroyed the other ship) and if they were both enemies, they were surrounded.

This anime can make you care about characters that are killed not long after they're introduced, which is the type of character you usually don't pay much mind to. Being stranded in space with your only ally having sacrificed themselves is destined to be a tough experience. Lafiel isn't captain for nothing, and her strong will allowed her to pull through when much of the crew wanted to subject themselves to whatever fate the enemy had in store.
