THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
I checked this series out on a whim. Little did I know it was going to be by far the best show this season. Honestly one of the most original and enjoyable things I've ever watched. It's a damn shame it only has 764 viewers on MAL when something as ridiculous as Mayoi Neko Overrun has almost 5x as many viewers.

9/10. Stunning.

Actually, scratch that, 10/10, it really is a masterpiece.

That. Was. Awesome.

While I've enjoyed a lot of shows this season, this was the only one that really made me excited to see how it would end. And I agree that it's a shame that more people didn't watch this, since this was truly the best show this season.

10/10 for me because of the entertainment value.

Holy crap, that was by far the best finale of the season. Heck, that was one of the best series I've seen in a while.

Seeing Watashi turn into Ozu at the end was GREAT; I am so glad I watched this show.

Now it's time to rewatch until I get it. So. Many. Subtleties.

Are you mad about the "Watashi changing into Ozu" part? Haha, that's not exactly what happens...err, don't take it literally.

Just wanna keep applauding all the stuff who were involved in making this masterpiece.

Extremely well made and had a real fun watching particularly the B part of the last episode.
"Watashi" to "Ore" - 10/10 to his campus life.

Happy: This anime jumped a lot in the ranking thanks to the completed
Sad: We're probably going to have like maybe three pages of talkback for this masterpiece.

Let me just get out of the way that the first three minutes where everything was going in reverse was like a serious mind trip.

-What a great finale. Everything was completed and all the relationships were resolved (did anybody else realize that Higuchi had feelings for Hanuki?) I actually let out a "yeah" when Watashi finally broke out of the 4.5 space. My only regret was that we never saw Kohinata. I really would have liked to see Ozu be all good-guy and flustered and all. But that's not really a major issue. All in all, Tatami Galaxy was a wonderful, magnificent experience of an anime. It dragged a little bit in the middle but it all paid off in the end. Yuasa has created another winner.

-I gotta admit, I lol'ed hard at the moth storm because I just knew that it would get to Akashi-san at some point.

It was almost blatantly said in one of the episodes and heavily hinted that they were dating in many of the others.

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole series. I can't see myself rewatching it in a long time, though, partly due to how much I rewatched the old episodes while it aired. I'm a bit intrigued with regards to the content of the specials.

Pretty good ending, although the part where he finally returns the mochiguma as well as the aftermath was a little unsatisfying. Love how the roles between Watashi and Ozu are switched at the end... lol.

Haha, sorry about saying "Watashi turn into Ozu" because I promise that's not actually what happens. It was just an easy way of saying it.

By the way, for everyone waiting for subs, Funimation subs them ridiculously fast every week (not that there's anymore weeks for it, but you know what I mean). Just go to their site (Funimation.com), click on watch videos, search, and voila! Their subs might not be the best, but they serve the purpose.

Wait, so are you the translator for Funimation or for a fansub group? If you do it for Funi, sweet mother of God, how the hell do you do it that quickly every week?! I mean, geez, if it were a normal show, I'd be able to comprehend, but this one has the mother of all dialogues. Phew.

If you do it for fansubs, I've never seen it, sorry. I appreciate the Goliathan effort to do so, regardless.

The ending was reasonably good. As much as I wanted Ozu to go die or something, having a bleak fortune is almost just as good.

I had high hopes for this because of the odd visual sense, but it sort of fell short because of repetitiveness, even if there was a point to it.

Kinda similar for me. The third and fourth episode were the only ones I didn't enjoy, since it didn't look like the series was going anywhere, but starting with the Honkawa story, it just kept getting better and better. They tied up all the loose ends really well and Watashi's demonic face was probably the best way to conclude the series. Props to the creators, this show really blew me away in the last episodes.
I'll probably rewatch it some time soon to look for various clever details.

Its not so much him becoming another person or vice versa. Youd just have to watch how the episode sets itself up, but it was displayed in an amazing way. If anything what I thought was just a an abstract romance anime, is more a coming of age meets slice of life.

Also loved the part where Watashi echoes Ozu's words at the end, haha.

Whaaaa, that was just mffff x3 I started crying at one point, just from the sheer awesome of the breakout/saving Ozu scene. The moths were all the moths from all the 4.5 tatami rooms that flew out, right?
And, heh, of course it was ultimately Akashi (through her Mochiguma) that made it possible for Watashi to escape the MADNESS tatami 'galaxy'.
I re-watched the 'icky love' scene at least 7 times, that's how epic Watashi turning to Ozu was xD
Anyway, best show this season. I feel like Summer will be crap because of how good Spring was with the likes of this and Five Leaves, Arakawa and still on-going Drrr& FMA:B, to name the few.

I am soooo glad I stumbled accross this show, did everyone find this show that way? Imagine if you never saw it (chills down my spine). So now I've got no choice but to try every new show this season even though I think we all know that summer....sigh. But still there's always hope.

And thank you Funimation and Quarkboy for subs! I really hope Funimation will do things this way a lot more in the future (or if they already do: keep up the great work!)

I was torn between a 9 and a 10 (I refuse to open up a can of worms by giving out 9.5's).

Sad that it's over. The whole episode was worth watching just for the flustered Ozu; so cute! x3

I think this was his best work because it was the one that was the most approachable among them. There was still his usual style, but it's a problem that's just rooted in reality and contemporary issues, and that's what (for me) puts it above the other shows that Yuasa produced.

I agree. He's the kind of guy you just have to watch out for because everything that comes out from him is golden eggs. That meticulousness in this populist medium is just so welcome.

Thank you for reading my articles, as well. I really appreciate it. :)
