Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just want to understand I'm about to get into. Is there any development down the line? or just non-serious harem-comedy all the way?

It's a parody of harem you are not supposed to take seriously to begin with it's why it's cranked up to 11 it know exactly what it is.

It's not a parody if you are following the same tropes of the genre you are supposed to parody. What we have here is an exaggerated version of harem, not a parody.

@Nobef

Is there such a thing as serious harem comedy to begin with?

I don't really think it's a parody either. It just breaks the fourth wall every episode- that's a harem with comedy.
And yes, the show is full of absolute degenerate behaviour.

I mean, that descriptor is better used for shows like this season's takamine san. I don't believe this show is particularly hilarious (it's just a bit funny), but it doesn't sink to the tragic level that the aforementioned show is at. This show has higher written quality and less vulgar fan service, while the other one is the opposite. So if you call this a gooner fest what does that make shit like takamine san?

No, it’s a parody. My bf and I find goonfests cringe and this is one of our favorite series

Edit: also… those of you who disagree should look up the definition of parody. Exaggeration is a key point.

No not at all, each gf is developed and then they just keep on adding them so it’s largely just a bunch a meet cute episodes with some comedy ones that are actually funny

So, it's kind of degenerate and there's a decent amount of fanservice, but first and foremost it's a comedy, and a batshit crazy one at that.

Konosuba - Isakei
100 GF's - Harem

After getting caught up with both that's how I feel. 100 GF's does parody as well with making fun of manga changes and random anime homages.

It specifically makes fun of the gooners on two occasions season 2.

It's both mostly non-serious but partly serious, there's quite a bit of useful knowledge to learn from this show, like how important it is that the girls in a harem like each other, because that prevents toxic developments, which is the main reason why most poly relationships fail in reality.

Okay, let me be more clear, what I am saying is while 100 Girlfriends has elements of parody it's not a real parody since it does not truly subvert the harem tropes but it only does that on a superficial level . This thread explains what I want to say in more detail https://www.reddit.com/r/100Kanojo/comments/1bxpssj/an_opinion_why_100_kanojo_is_not_a_parody_but/

But in all seriousness: it's a parody, as many have said here. it's not meant to be taken seriously. So just laugh at the absurdity and move on

@JoeChip It is a parody, though. It fits the definition. A parody does not have to mock or be condescending towards what it parodies.

It’s a gooner fest for sure (thanks to hahari and hakari), but when there are those moments it exaggerates them so hard that it becomes comedic how ridiculous it is.

Even outside of the gooner jokes it does parodies and self-referential/4th person wall breaks super well, animation and timing-wise. The voice cast is also refreshing, so many good VA’s really having fun with an absurd script.

I think that if you don’t like fan service already, it’s not going to change your mind and that’s fine, but if you enjoy the occasional degenrate joke, it’s honestly one of the more polished comedy anime I’ve seen. The gag at the end of s2 is legitimately the most memorable joke I’ve seen in recent anime.

a gag mangaka writes this series so it is totally not to be taken serious, all the tropes you can think of are shown but are made a parody of, and if this was a gooner series women wouldnt be sharing themselves going to a cafe of 100 girlfriends on tiktok, so there you have it.

*people who do think this is for gooners are twisting the word "gooner" as a whole*

1. Parodying tropes doesn't mean you aren't also embracing said tropes.
2. Women can be degenerates, too.

It's a very serious show that takes itself very seriously. The characters are incredibly well-written and develop a LOT over the entire show. It's not just a romcom harem, that's almost insulting to the depths this show explores.
It tackles eating disorders, social anxiety, autism and various other topics in a very serious manner. It's a very mature show.
