Yeah, it's sad to see One Piece go for six months or so, but in the meantime, how about a BIGGGG trip down memory lane, with a remaster of Fishman Island, the arc to kickstart timeskip. And the start it off, We Go! by Hiroshi Kitadani NOPE, THE STRAW HAT PIRATES THEMSELEVES AHHHHH. FUCKKKK that OP was so fucking nostalgic. Btw, the Hody Jones fight looked so fucking good in it as well.

But yeah, onto the main thing, everything in the new art style, kinda. More like the art style their using for the the WIT remake more than anything. Seeing Sanji again in this arc... man if you don't get this dude OFF the screen NOW xD In all seriousness, man this is so nostalgic as a whole. I mean, to see the entire gang (and fake one) like this, and Luffy just recently HAD LEARNED HAKI??? Shit is just amazing to see.

Nothing was as amazing as hearing THAT OG EYE CATCHER MUSIC OMFGGGG. Also, I find it funny that by the first eye catcher, this episode already finished the first episode of this arc in the OG lol. Just goes to show how fucking slow the OG is. And yeah, that means that we got to see the new and improved Haki in this artstyle, and god it's SOOOOO much better than just the white lines that showed up in the OG.

I did forgot how much of clowns these fake straw hats were lol. Navy are really no better for actually falling for these VERY clearly imposters, but yeah, this is the glory that is this Return to Sabody arc. Slowly but surely though, the REAL straw hat pirates are making their way to reuniting, and god what a banger of a first episode this was. I'm so exicited for these next twenty weeks, BRING IT ONNNNNNN. Banger ED as well btw.

P.S. For reference:
This episode one adapted the first two episode of the Return to Sabody arc (Ep #517 & 518), and chapters 598 and 599.

The visuals for the new We Go version are pretty nice and finally an ending for FMI

For that reason alone we need the other arcs to receive the same treatment as well.

One Piece is such a dense manga and adapting two chapters that aren't focussed on action and fighting can be a tad too much. The original episodes for this arc had actully fine pacing, so cutting some parts for this episode seems less than ideal. I guess I will appreciate it more once we get to some episodes which were actually padding(even tho FMI didn't have anything as bad as Dress Rosa and Wano)

I'm cool with modern visuals for the characters. The Haoshoku aura on the other hand? Sorry, that was pretty much perfect before.

Also the new animation for the opening was really cool as well as the ending

I have no idea why people don't like this arc. The only problem with the arc is legit the filler and Vander Decken lol. You can say what you want about Hody but he perfectly encapsulates the conflict FMI had been suffering and pretty much mirrors a lot of qualities hateful people have.

On another note, not much to say but the pace obviously is better. It's also quite noticeable how much younger the VA's sound especially Robin, Nami & Franky (duh!). They legit sound too old on the recent episodes

On the whole I like it and plan to continue to watch.

One thing I noticed that is throwing me off is how it is obvious how they are skipping scene to get to the payoff without the build up. Two examples are when Usopp attacks the fake Straw hats with his plant the fake Nami is right next to the real one with no explanation (obviously she was threatening her but that was cut) and any build up to the fake Robin getting kidnapped was not there and came out of nowhere.

If the original anime was a problem were the pacing is too slow I fear this special may have a problem were the pacing is too fast. Hopefully it is only going to be in these early episodes and it will get better later.

But at least I liked the effort they put into making a song for Brook/Soul King.

I had forgotten the Caribou brothers were part of the fake Straw Hats

Still gotta love all of the Straw Hats getting their OSTs back.
And still gotta love the shuffling of voice actors within fake Straw Hats

I love the Chopper scene with him confusing the fake Straw Hats just as much as I did the first time.

I really like the eyecatchers this time around.

Oh, the ED seems really good, both visualwise and songwise.

Wow I have to admit that the Egghead arc will be on hiatus until April 2025 but the meantime watching remaster of the Fish-man island arc, the animation look good plus the Op also that I am impressed that they kept the old audio of the late Hiromi Tsuru’s voice in this episode (I felt like it like the tribute for her for one last time for One piece)

I am going to watch this until it get back next year

Once again watching the fishmen arc but this time with improved animation.
I hope it will be a good experience for new One Piece fans who are yet to get to this arc.

It was so fast that I even felt strange, it almost felt like I missed something...
and apparently there were some scenes that they cut from the original, for example:

Not that this is a relevant scene for the importance of the story but there were some cuts here and there, that's for sure.

Man, I liked the ending more than the opening. Reminds me a lot of the vibe of JJK's ''Lost in Paradise'' (1:12 ~ 1:25)

Just such badassery.

Everything looks so… fresh and a new aura of completely badassery in a way that’s never been done before. One Piece is always at its peak, and this is no exception. It reminds me of the Land of Wano style, but it has a sort of classic grainy feel. Its badassery and amazingness is just too much to comprehend, so I’ll get to the nitty gritty.

Firstly we got Luffy’s return, which is just…. OH MY GOD, AND HANCOCK IS LOOKING FINE AS PER USUAL. Nami is hearing the BS with the fake Straw Hats, and Brook is rocking out. We see the scene where Usopp and Nami clap some cheeks and for whatever reason, USOPP REALLY THOUGHT THAT FAKE WAS THE REAL LUFFY! I get Chopper, and Luffy’s badassery is too powerful, but Usopp, BRO YOU SHOULD KNOW! I forgot to mention how clean the intro and transition scenes are, DAMN!

THERE’S SO MUCH BADASSERY THAT I CAN’T KEEP UP!

Finally we get to see it… Luffy’s return to Sabaody Archipelago, and we get to see THAT scene, Luffy knocking down all the fakes with his Conqueror’s Haki, and it was ABSOLUTELY UNADULTERATED PURE BADASSERY AT ITS CORE! HOW MUCH BADASSERY CAN WE TAKE, OH MY GOD! Lastly, Zoro cutting that ship in half with that OST! OH MY LORD EVEN MORE BADASSERY THAT MY LEG WAS LITERALLY SHAKING WITH THE AMOUNT OF BADASSERY I WAS CONSUMING! “I got on… the wrong boat.” WHAT AMAZINGNESS!

The ending was quite a beautiful site!

I’M EXCITED TO SEE MORE!

As the bros and siss above said ye, they dropped the nami u’ve grown too with usopp in da t i t s and they removed cocoa fake nico robin kicking fake fox chopper before offering the real boi toni toni a cucumber ahahah….🤓 but i loved these episodes before i feel like its somewhere around 515-20 and i think the animation and art style then was more fluid ahaha and better. But seriously the two scenes are in the manga since ive reread the whole volume 61 a few days ago…less pervy stuff no animal abuse i get it all its 2024 but come on Toei-chaaaaan

This just looks like it has Wano colors and shading redone job but I don’t even like that since the lighting and everything is not more realistic or whatever as animators say it’s just a bit off and as another person said they kinda didn’t let scenes breathe inbetween too. Maybe I feel nostalgic about this but it was 2011 comfy carefree october when i caught up to OP anime and these episodes were airing weekly ahaha on anime freak ahahha and kiss anime…. Comparing the two episodes of that time with this one, 517 (just checked) ends on Luffy bumping into fake Luffy where here it was the halfway point and all is good yo 1.5-2+ is a good pace and a needed one but just maybe not always? Because 517 in except maybe some reaction shots lasting longer than they should’ve, like Nami and usopp in the bar with fake straws, didnt feel slow then at all. But i get the point of this remake

I feel like a boomer but 517-521 when they sail to fishman are some of the greatest fun brilliant animation cuts in early series and this felt a bit bad. Also mind the colors and everything but watching this ep and also Wano Piece in anime i feel like toei always have the frames a bit 0.25+ zoomed in ahahaha and it feels a bit rackety or idk just off. Never checked One Pace for this part of the anime but Id rather watch that than this.

But when they get to Fishman Island its where the static animation and pacing becomes a bigger issue so hope that’s where I will like it more. Also looks like the next ep gonna cover 3 chapters which is wild

2.5 out of 5 if we have to rate it bby

Also i will post a lot of manga panels and illustartions that the whole fishman anime remake is adapting now and post it on my manga art hoe account it is same as here bambi_zoldyck so check that out too, for god time sakes because Oda was another level with art in this era

That looked quite neat, liked the updated visuals. Actually looked good and upto date. Made me nostalgic watching the strawhat reuniting one by one. Zoro appearance with the ost always a banger. Pacings fast but given they plan to resume anime in 6 months, they'll also want to be done with this by then so makes sense. Personally I don't mind.

I miss watching this show week to week, good to be back.

About the FI re-edited version, first half of this episode had really bad flow imo, we jumped from one scene to the next just like that. The flow is a lot better in the second half. Toei fixed a lot of the bad art problem that this arc had in the original, which is good. This version isn't perfect, and the Wano artstyle contrast with the original version's background art did look out of place in certain moments, but I am content with it, until we hopefully eventually get the Wit Studio's version of this.

There's one scene that I remember from the original that they removed in this version, that is the Usopp Nami hugging scene when Usopp's nose was poking out of Nami's chests. I am glad that there's barely any fanservice at all in this version. One Piece get too much bad rep from people complaining about the fanservices, but 90% of it was because of Toei.

I love the new OP and ED visuals, especially the ED. Many people hated Shirahoshi but I liked her and her story. The OP sequence with the Fishman heading towards the Sun with the strawhats leading them is so beautiful. I can't wait to experience the flashback again with Otohime and Fisher Tiger.

The one thing that I really hated in this episode is the use of aura. I did not like that in Wano, and I certainly do not like that here. The scene where Luffy hit Hody in the opening song looks really, really bad in my opinion.

This edited version is far from perfect but it's fun.

We're finally back with Sabaody Archipelago first, as I expected. Remake post-Marineford is on the cards, after all.

Nami's encounter with the fake Straw Hats and Usopp coming in while the Nami imposter snuck behind our Nami-swaaan was the first real disjointed scene from the episode that I noticed. They could've smoothened the scene a little but it's very minor, so wasn't much of an issue for me.

I want to see Dressrosa getting this treatment too!

Op with the VAs singing it is a nice tradition to go with too. Wake Up! and Hard Knock Days will be fun although the latter might be a little difficult with the lack of female voice in the OG track. Well, I'm sure they can find a way around it.

I'm in love with the visuals of the new OP & ED! Just love listening to this version of We Go! with the Straw Hat VA cast singing the lyrics. 😭 The visuals for the OP are much more colorful and more dynamic than the old visuals for OP15 back in 2011. Also, I'm so fond of the modern take for the ED visuals because that also looks eye candy.

Honestly, I'm very happy to watch this arc again, but now with brand new animation and improved pacing. However, when they tried to improve the pacing, they omitted certain panels from the original. Some of the removed panels which were painfully obvious from here was fake Nami threatening the real Nami. I remember they had a conversation before Usopp used his Pop Greens. I mean, whaa...? I blinked and I was asking myself if the episode I was watching had some frames cut or something. Because it was so weird to see the fake Nami was immediately standing next to the real Nami when Usopp made his attack. What happened and why did they make such a mistake when adjusting the pacing?

I also noticed that something was missing when Chopper was talking to the fake Straw Hats. Demalo Black didn't even react to Chopper here, while in the original, Demalo Black was completely oblivious about Chopper's existence, as he asked his comrades "What is this thing?" which was so funny because he knows nothing about Chopper. This portion in the remake feels off, but I'll let it slide.

The Marine soldiers having a conversation while running... To be completely honest, I'd rather remove that instead of removing the panels that I mentioned above.

So that's 2 episodes crammed into 1 One Piece episode. It feels surreal because One Piece anime hasn't experienced this kind of faster pacing for God knows when. 😅 I'm assuming that in the next episodes, the Straw Hats will be leaving Sabaody already, which I think is great for this remake's pacing and it should wrap up this return nicely with just a total of 2 episodes. I don't mind that at all, but I hope they don't cut off some very important panels again.

Very happy to have my weekly One Piece fix again! 😭

After watching first episode and remembering what I saw on original fishman island arc beginning I’d say that the animation does feel a little bit improved, of course it wasn’t super difficult by just taking existing cuts and polishing them.

The pacing feels different but the big problem is that they appear to be cutting short scenes that never needed cutting in the first place. It almost feels like a failure to understand what made this arc such a burden to watch in the original airing. Its gonna be very curious to see how they gonna proceed with pacing and minor scene cutting, but overall its not too much to complain about in general asides from whats mentioned.

Fish-man island is back... or more so is the Sabaody archipelago so to speak. This special edition of One Piece focused on remaking this arc that severely dragged out by the end could certaily become the best way to watch it. Although it's true that the animation effects and the color palette may not everyone's favorite, it looks really nice as does the new opening with the remix song and the ending sequence with various colorful frames. By the end we'll see how much this is worth it.

4/5, I personally think it was very smart of them to choose this arc for a Special Edited Edition. I do not blame anyone who gives this 3/5 as it's pretty much entirely a recap, just with more modern animation [ability]. I think people would be more annoyed by a trashy filler arc (good filler would have been cool, but people don't like that either).

The straw hats would have gotten away undercover, if it wasn't for those meddling adults!

Oh no, Brook might be done with pirating, such a huge shame but I'm happy for him. (We all know what he told his manager)

Nami and Usopp are such good friends, unfortunate for "girl" that didn't see him with Nami in Fan Letter but she glimpsed her (and much more she did) so all good.

Honestly feel bad for that pirate crew as I did before, we have no idea if they are malicious and were just following their dreams. However, Zoro is right with what he said. Sanji will no longer be chased by beautiful "ladies" on the daily, he definitely respects them and is thankful to Iva-chwan. Sad Luffy isn't wearing nose/mustache. Franky and Robin also being good friends and Chopper having his world broken </3 (it's always funny he's the pet that loves cotton candy, and not the doctor or reindeer fighter)

Almost forgot, I prefer the original opening song, but it's still always nice to hear the crew sing and was a very appropriate choice since it's a special edited edition. The ending :o

I have no idea why people don't like this arc. The only problem with the arc is legit the filler and Vander Decken lol. You can say what you want about Hody but he perfectly encapsulates the conflict FMI had been suffering and pretty much mirrors a lot of qualities hateful people have.
Agreed. Fishman Island is one of my favorite arcs.

I don't think I have a favorite arc, but I think roughly what lives in my head the most is Eniel's Lobby > Impel Down / Marineford > Wano > Dressrosa.
I personally think Fishman was good choice for variety of reasons and am really looking forward to it. Honestly love (hate) pretty much all of One Piece, Water 7 has to be one of the lowest on my mind for whatever reason when it's also really good.
