Two episodes aired this week back to back.

I think Keisuke might be worrying too much about Mai and himself. Whatever the case, they have a rather peculiar chemistry so far. One thing I do notice about Mai is how she thinks beyond her age, obviously because of her circumstances. The manga does this in similar ways but it's nice to see it being animated. "They're both like the sun to me". So much tears were shed, it's like an emotional rollercoaster. Mai accepts herself as an elementary student.

Forgot to mention about the ED song but it looks really well animated too.

U-NEXT/Anime Houdai stream ep 2 and beyond one week early than the TV broadcast.

Idk what it is, but something about seeing elementary schoolers fight over something as simple as making remarks about each others bedrooms, while we got Marika over here just acting as the judge lmao. But yeah, if only that dude who was hitting on Marika would know she already has a husband... with a child lol.

Though, it's not all sunshine and rainbows, because WHAT. THE. FUCK. was that scene with Marika and her mom???? I was wondering when we'd get some of Marika's POV at her house but didn't expect to be this early nor THIS FUCKING BAD. Don't really get what the big deal is, just leave that house and move in with the Niijima's at this point. Clearly that bitch ass "mom" don't care and clearly won't if you leave.

People who do care is the Niijima's though. I mean, they actually celebrated your birthday... AND YOUR AIN'T DO SHIT FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY. Granted, she might have a different birthday because of the whole reincarnation thing, but I still believe that woman wouldn't celebrate shit with her.

Seeing Mai and Marika cry of happiness... god I love this show already.

The family date to the aquarium is nice, but with Takae givng Keisuke his daily bento, he's more than happy.

The usual bento exchange between husband and reincarnatd wife, Keisuke is more than happy just receiving her usual homemade bentos. Otherwise, Takae in her other family, she's known as Marika Shiraishi, and the dispute between her friends being handled maturely that's out of what the typical elementary schooler should be. It's the other classmates like childhood friend Takeru who acknowledges her, but Marika herself is from a broken family, but a really bad one where her parents divorced, leaving her with her abusive mother Chika who doesn't care about her own well-being.

Thankfully, Marika's smartphone being saved before her mother could scramble her room for more money, it's the ominous feeling that's absent with both Keisuke and Mai wanting to see their mother again, reality is not so simple as to slide this belief. Keisuke being overjoyed to plan the family's good time with their elementary school mother, Marika wants the truth out for them to know, but it's clear that both Keisuke and Mai just couldn't let go of their mother, even as they celebrate her old birthday and her new life being the elementary school girl that is better off with her former family than her abusive mother.

It's only the second episode, but with the emotional baggage, I'm beyond impressed of the adaptation thus far.

Okay, this seems fun but it also feels like the inevitable dark drama is coming and I don’t know if I want that this early. It feels like it’s building up and will come next episode!

Good thing that could come out of it would be that we’d be done with that already and that might open doors to other twists and turns that might be interesting.

Kouhai at work, I’ve a feeling there’s a time limit to the whole elementary girl remembering her past life thing so I’m curious what they’ll do with her.

Oh, and surprised by the lively Op too. A nice welcome, though.

Holy fuck, that was quite heavy to watch. It's so wholesome to see but also there's a lingering heaviness in the background. This show reminds me that we should appreciate our loved ones when they are still alive. Cherishing the time we spent and the memories we made with them. Very effective tourist filter for those who dismisssed this show for its title lol. Truly a hidden gem of this season.

Damn this hit hard for me. Both because I had a F**ked up Family & a lot of emotional baggage & because I GET the part about getting over your grief & getting on with your life. Actually, In the 1st Episode, I thought this was some sort of scam, I didn't expect it to actually be her. Who cut the Bloody Onions??!

The title sounds very conflicting, but also immediately eye catching and I heard this series is good so I decided to give it a watch.
...and it had me bawling!
I heard it was wholesome and about the process of grief and moving forward, but wow... that cake scene in episode 2 really had me muffling my own sobs.

honestly looking forward to watching the rest and possibly checking out the live action !

Dang, the premise as weird as it is does a nice job handling the complex topics and their relationship full of uncertainty, I like lighthearted shows and feel like those three instead being given a second chance are on a lose-lose situation so I feel this show isn't for me and will drop it (not out of being bad ofc), this is going to be such a pleb / tourist filter that can't get past the elephant in the room.

So it’s finally here, the show that lit anitwt up when the trailer dropped because of the name.. definitely nothing inappropriate at all here despite the wild title. Very wholesome and emotional first two episodes, I can tell this is gonna leave me crying by the end.

Takae and Keisuke had everything going for them, you meet your dream partner at work, get married, have a beautiful family and it all comes crashing down so suddenly. The flashbacks were really gut wrenching. Like we only saw one of their meals but I’m assuming after the mom died they were eating conbini bentos daily.

I think the wife getting reincarnated and coming back as an elementary school student is a refreshing way to handle the concepts of grief, acceptance and moving on. This whole episode had an air of uneasiness about it because while they’re doing all these things they once did as a family, you just know it won’t last and that it doesn’t feel quite right. Takae is quite literally a different person now and she can never have her old life back. Just using my media literacy guessing cap, I’m assuming the coworker Keisuke has been eating with will become his new love interest and Takae will fall for the boy in her class.

In episode 1, when Takae made the bento for Keisuke and he didn’t eat it at work because the new coworker made one for him as well, it was foreshadowing of him moving forward in life. I imagine we’ll see more stuff like that subtly throughout the show.

This is also kinda reinforced by Takae personality. She still has her memories, but she’s a lot more tsun tsun now than she was as an adult because her life is different and our experiences shape who we are. There’s some really emotional and interesting ways this show can go in and I’m excited, manga readers have praised it so I got high expectations.

Also, fuck Takae’s mom. No wonder the husband left her, abusive pos.

Ep 1 literally aired just before ep 2 so uh yeah uh.

Pacing has been really weird so far
Right now the issue is it seems waifu's mom is really problematic right now, and whether next ep will be more or less optimistic
A bit of whiplash here and there since the optimistic sides is also with the not so optimistic

Interesting developments in Takae's personal life, but the highlight was definitely the latter half with the whole Niijima family. This episode was meant to extract all our tears.

A quote from Senpai is an Otokonoko fits really well here, "If you cast aside a certain amount of important things, you can protect at least one thing, no matter what it is." Ideally, you don't need to make the sacrifice, but it looks like Takae recognizes what's more important to her if that time ever comes.

Okay, I was not expecting this kind of content that we got for the first TWO episodes, but I ain't complaining. The title translation did catch me off-guard initially, but it definitely did not deserve the overreaction that it got. What I will say for this episode is that, although I did not feel too strongly about them celebrating Takae's birthday after being gone for 10 years, it is still a heartwarming moment to see a reunion like this--to be grateful for this miraculous thing to have happened and to "redo" those lost years that have passed.

Based on the OP sequence, however, I suspect that Takae's current mom might get a character redemption moment further down in the series, but as of now, she's elicits the behavior that may have warranted her divorce the previous year. If that's what will happen, I'm going to need a compelling case on that end since, like many characters like her, they're starting from a highly unlikable state and will need a gut-wrenching backstory in order to view their character as "redeemable".

I'm intrigued to see how this story progresses and how Takae can manage her relationships between her past and current lives.

if Takae don't have much memory of her life as a kid before remembering her previous life, is basically like if she had taken over the little girl life... feels kinda weird (reminds me of the Bookworm isekai)

It's wholesome seeing the three of them hanging out and be together again, but it bothers me a little how the father and daughter have little to none concern about Takae's situation... not the stuff they don't know about her abusive mother, of course... but they go up and down with someone's kid, keep her outside until late, etc... good thing her mom sucks, because otherwise I would feel bad for the poor parents, with their daughter suddenly distancing herself like that (but the Nijimas don't know her new mom sucks, so they should at least show a little concern about it, lol)

Wow, it looks like that Takae certainly doesn’t live in a happy home in this life. I feel for her, seriously. Seriously, that mother is the textbook definition of verbally abusive. And physically, judging by what she said to that other person on the phone.

Hopefully she can get out of there, even if it’s not at her original families house. Just some other family, that knows what the definition of the word “love“ is. It reminds me of HigeHiro, with how abusive and unloving that mother is! And even with SAO, with Asuna’s mother, though the latter clearly isn’t as bad as this!

But because of that, she’s more determined than ever to be around her original family. And I don’t blame her for initially, just wanting to check up on them, considering the circumstances. But she’s right, considering the fact that Keisuke was so dead in the water since her death, she couldn’t in good conscience abandon them.

And also, happy birthday to her as well!

I think the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" fits this series well, although it's more aimed at the title more than anything. ^^;

Still, I do consider putting the underrated gem tag for this series, even at this early stage, after seeing how these first episodes have unfolded. We also got a good insight into Takae's family situation and it does looking worrying. Her "mother" is divorced and judging with how she acted in this episode, I think it likely that the husband was the one to break up with her. Maybe she'll get a redemption arc in the future, who knows.

Because of this, Takae couldn't help but think to herself if meeting Keisuke and Mai was a mistake. Thankfully, the scene back at the Niijima household, where they celebrated Takae's original birthday gave her the answer that she was looking for. Seeing all of them tear up while eating cake was wholesome and very touching at the same time.

There's still some tricky obstacles for them to overcome, but for now, seeing all three of them together like this, smiling away, is very wholesome and heartwarming.

Finally some drama. Tho it was obvious from the OP, Takae/Mariko's mom seems to be a bitch. Like lady I get you're miserable but no need to take your anger out on your child who's probably the only family you have left. Man, Takae has it rough. She lost her husband and her daughter who really loved her only to end up with a terrible mother... At least she was able to be reunited with her old family. But usually in these types of anime, the mother/abusive parent character will probably get some development and redeem herself. Wonder how that'll go here.

We also got an acknowledgment of her sudden maturity from others, mainly her elementary school classmates. Wonder if they'll become recurring characters. And if that boy is supposed to be Mariko's new love interest... Bit too early for that.

Despite the terrible beginning with Mariko's mother, the episode ended on a wholesome note. Glad they finally celebrated a birthday together after 10 years. Seems like Mariko will keep being selfish. Which isn't just good for her but also her old family. Keisuke would probably lose it if Mariko stopped visiting them at this point. Tho he might get over it eventually.

Beautiful episode! Honestly I expected those emotions in the first episode but now was fine too.

I'm so worried for Takae. Her mom's bad news and I fear she'll find out about Takae's secret visits eventually. Takae better be hiding that phone somewhere safe from now on.

I'm glad husband actually thought about Takae's hardships. He seemed like a dumbass who lost his mind out of happiness, not caring if someone hears him calling the child his wife etc. Glad he's taking her more seriously now. Still weird how they openly meet in park or in the street to talk, give bento etc. What if someone notices them? That's basically game over.

Turns out Takae lied. Her memories were back earlier but she was conflicted about how to deal with reincarnation and wasn't planning on reuniting with old family at all. That explains her somewhat cold and angry attitude during first encounter, since she was basically forced to reveal herself since the two were so miserable.

Takae is indeed in a tough situation due to 2 families. She's still "lucky" her mother is a POS who's often not at home + dad ran away + no siblings to take care of. Basically, due to such awful circumstances Takae has more room to maneuver. With normal family she'd have much harder time to meet with her old.

What a sentimental episode - it made my throat feel tight and my eyes sting.

It was heartwarming to see those family moments between the Niijima family and Takae, but Takae's double life as Marika is clearly getting complicated, especially with her somewhat troublesome mother. However, I'm hesitant to say that Marika's mother is really bad. Since a classmate mentioned that she used to be shy, probably due to her parents' divorce, so I don't want to judge her too harshly just yet. No matter how much Takae is struggling, it's clear that the people she really cares about and who are the sunshine that lights up her life are the Niijima family. That birthday scene made me cry.

On the other hand, I'm still conflicted about Takae's reincarnation. As she mentioned, she doesn't know why it happened, and it might even be temporary. I can't help but wonder what happened to the real Marika's personality and memories.

I can see that Takae's current mother is concensusly deemed a bitch and probably a slut as well but after rewinding her scenes and paying attention to what she was saying to Takae I came to realize she had a point. Let's take the judgments out for a moment and take into consideration where she's coming from in dealing with Takae. The mom is stressed out not knowing where her daughter has been going and doing plus has no idea if she's eating properly because Takae has been lying to her on numerous occasions just so she could spend time with her former family. Lying is a betrayal of trust no matter how much we want to rationalize and justify it. I'm gonna guess even if it's not specified, but it seems the mom is trying to make ends meet by questionable methods since she probably has no sustainable income due to frequent job changes. I truly understand that parents shouldn't vent their anger and frustrations they receive from the world onto their children, but Takae basically isn't doing her part to ease her mom's troubles by running off someplace she has no knowledge off and no idea what's she's doing.

It's only episode 2 and i'm already on the brink of crying, man this is looking to be an emotional one. I feel really bad for Takae having to be reborn into such a shitty household, that mother should not be allowed to care for her. What a horrible self centered woman who cares nothing for her child, makes me sick. On the other side the Niijima family is just wonderful, i'm rooting for Takae to be able to change back to her true family!

I don't even have a stupid or funny thing to write here this time, i just want all the main characters to be happy!

So we got to see how Takae currently lives with her new family and it's worse than I though it would be, I mean I figured it would've been more normal or stable, but at least she can somewhat maneuver around that situation to see her old family.

Side note, the scenes with Takae at school were amusing since she has the mind of an adult and was trying to reason with her classmates, some of them probably think she's weird.
