The final battle against the evil god Omizuchi has begun, and Sakuna is more conscious of her surroundings facing a potent enemy that's the epitome of evil, supported by the rice and Tama's Blade of Hoshidama.

With her upgraded farmng equipment, Sakuna is accompanied by Kokorowa and Ashigumo to thwart the monsters on the way to Omizuchi. And upon reaching the water dragon god, he intimidates her with an illusion spell that is broken thanks to the rice, and furthermore that her parents were eaten whole and formed into the numerous dragon forms.

There's no more words to exchange, only to fight until someone loses, and Sakuna unfortunately with her limited Divine Raiment, thinks that by defeating Omizuchi, the matter will be over. But the Tree of Creation power evolving it into Omagatsu Omizuchi, Sakuna feels overwhelmed, but there's a sliver of hope with part of the blade slicing through Omizuchi, and instead of dying and losing, she actually did it to save her parents' souls, with the added theme of Kaimaru being able to converse with souls, leading her back home, continuing to plow and harvest the rice fields.

A faithful adaptation of the game, this is easily the best P.A. Works show of the 3 this Summer season. I thoroughly enjoyed this from start to finish.

That was a nice final battle. The world is now saved. Good job, Sakuna!

I'm happy that Tama-jii came back.

Overall, an entertaining show. I'll miss Sakuna and her friends.

A passionate cultivation borne through hardship and compassion. Sakuna grows just like rice, starting with a murky attitude then grows into a golden personality.

Overall a pretty chill series with heart stirring lessons about compassion.

Solid end to a wonderful show.

This show left me teary eyed many times, and when it wasn't doing that it was keeping me hooked with an interesting story, good characters and rice farming theory.

My favourite show of Summer season, you will be missed "Sakuna Saturdays".

How hard even Hoshigumo threw that pin? Deforming like that must been like a bullet.

The battle was cool, but I wish had more action. That being a hard battle in the game.

Now we say goodbye to the rice fields.

That was the most hype I've ever felt from munching on onigiri. "They say seven gods reside within rice. Within every grain. How many gods do you think are in me?" YES!

I want to shout out the music one last time: Yoshiaki Fujisawa's orchestral score just made me so happy and really sold me on the emotional parts. It reminded me of the old Ghibli soundtracks from Joe Hisaishi, Princess Mononoke especially, for obvious reasons. I loved the soundtrack for Land of the Lustrous, too, and I'm definitely keeping an eye out for him now.

The last, more "folksy" rendition of the rice-planting song was the perfect way to wrap up the show. Wonderful finale. I was feeling just lukewarm early in the season, but slowly and steadily this show won me over.

Who would have thought that this was going to be the best P.A. Works show of the Summer 2024 Season!
It was not anything flashy or particularly deep, but I enjoyed it a lot. For me it was a similar experience to Helck from the same season last year.
I want to rate them both higher so badly because of how much I enjoyed them, but if I want to be consistent with my own rules, I have to give:

Sweet, sweet ending. Although it's tagged as action I enjoyed it much more as a relaxed fantasy slice of life with some drama elements.

Good single season arc. Seems to cover the entirety of the game. Given how much fighting (and farming) you have to do in the game, it was interesting that they pulled back on action and kept it more focused on the character bits. Great job at recreating the colors and designs of the game as well. Probably my second favorite of the season.

They did the game justice. There were a few things here and there they missed (I remember the characters having brief epilogues, for example) but overall I am very happy with how this came out. Honestly, the overall rating for this should be higher. At least a 7.

It was a nice series. I haven't played the game, it's been on my Switch wishlist since it was released, but I never really felt lost or that I was missing out on something. Quite chill.

So the finale has come. Overall, a nice summary of the game. Though as a person who finished the game way before the anime announcement, I couldn't help but have some minor gripes on the anime, such as no epilogue of the human characters (unless an OVA covers it), and Sakuna only used few of her game techniques in action scenes while there were loads in the game. The anime felt quite more slice of life most of the times while the game has way more actions and explorations of locations. Still, a nice anime and I'm glad it didn't go down in a different route storywise and stuck with the game storyline. 8/10 overall.

Pretty enjoyable show, the fight lacked a bit of intensity in the beginning considering she didn't use her supernatural skills they showed before (like the Karp one), so Hoshidama's blade didn't seem all that impactful. But the pre-fight and 2nd half were done very well, that shot of Sakuna crouching while whipping out her Divine Raiment was really badass.

What this story really succeeded at was with the character parts, and I liked those. Even in this last episode with the reveal that the rice that Tauemon had 'accidentally' eaten last episode was actually saved for this final fight as Tam a's idea. And the development of divinity with Kaimaru was done very well as well. As someone already mentioned, the Taue song played at the end was the perfect finisher. GG

  • Aside from the final episode and the episodes at the beginning, the story building at the middle was not so bad.
  • I couldn't read the title kanji characters "tensui". According to the Net, it is usually pronounced as "Ama no Ho" that means "the sky / the heaven" + "ears (of rice plant)". Ame no Ho Hi would be the most likely god for that words. According to this web site, he is the god of agriculture especially rice farming.
  • Though the character design of Kokorowa is beautiful, her vulgar laugh is questionable. Her name can be broken down to "kokoro (mind)" and "wa (circle)".

@Tacsk0 Kibbutz the Animation (laughs)... this is golden!

But could not be farther from the truth. There is nothing more Japanese -- or Eastern -- than the rice agriculture. The story has its roots on the Japanese mythology.

I hope Arab and Muslim anime fans to have watched such a great series instead of letting preconceptions take the experience from them.

I went into this series without having any knowledge about the game at all and I can say that I enjoyed watching Sakuna all the way through to the end.

While the series does have action, for me, it was the slice of life segments with the cast growing rice or improving on their skills that I enjoyed the most. Sakuna herself had some solid character development. She's as enjoyable in taking down enemies as she is being involved in comedic moments of her own doing or with others. The soundtrack was also very good, as was the OP/ED songs.

7/10 will be my final score. =)

It's excellent. I liked all the aspects of the show, but I think the ending was rushed. The fight itself ended almost instantly after Omizuchi said, "Oh, I evolved, and I'm a lot stronger," just for him to get clipped instantly.

Other than the ending feeling rushed, I still love the anime and now I have to go and beat the game.

A solid adaptation, a few changes here and there, the ending was missing what is going to happen with the group, they posted https://x.com/sakuna_anime/status/1840036491075993741/photo/1

So it makes me wonder if that means there will be more either as anime, here I'm waiting for a new game project by Edelweiss.

Great finale!

The world is safe now.

Sakuna did a great job, good to see her parents one last time.

Very cool show fs
I need somebody who can love me at my worst
No, I'm not perfect, but I hope you see my worth
'Cause it's only you, nobody new, I put you first
And for you, girl, I swear I'll do the worst

If you stay forever, let me hold your hand
I can fill those places in your heart no else can
Let me show you love, oh, I don't pretend, yeah
I'll be right here, baby, you know I'll sink or swim

Lovely series & ending. Add Sakuna to one of my new favorite goddesses.
My I only wished the series were a bit longer 24 episodes.
Don't be fooled by the unjustified low scores. If you like Iyashikei animes, give Sakuna a chance.
My score 9.

Wow this anime is a surprise in the era where anime is made only for advertising, anime with proper ending is nice.

Another surprise is, this was originally a game made by indie studio years ago and now made it into anime. I guess the sales is pretty good for them to fund full length anime.

That was a really fun and lovable anime, I loved seeing all the characters grow. A bit sad that Sakuna's parents are already dead. Out of all the 3 PA Works anime airing this season I'd say this was my favorite.

Sakuna was a lovable character. Got used to the rest of the cast too. Sad to leave them. The ending felt a bit too rushed NGL (haven't played the game but still). This was overall a very enjoyable show.

criminally underrated. the action scenes cd use more work but there’s nothing else I wish they had improved upon

guess the theme just doesn’t resonate with the majority of MAL users?

I personally feel getting reincarnated as a human wdn’t make a bad ending either

Thanks to most users inability to see truly good animes (as they probably rate Oishi no Koi either 9 or 10 lol), we have yet another criminally underrated anime; and probably one of the most underrates I have ever seen in my anime career.
