Why didn't the author just continue with hyouka?

He is ostensibly still writing for both series, he’s just an incredibly slow writer.

Because he wanted to write something new perhaps?
No, this isn't my signature-desu.

Maybe the author didn't know how to continue Hyouka and started writing this series instead. They do that sometimes get stuck on one series and start another, in hopes of getting out of having writer block. Sometimes, they have 2 or 3 series going, and you can tell they have the same ideas just told differently.

He is doing both simultaneously, and if im not mistaken there is a couple of ln that can be adapted but maybe for 12 episodes at best, if what you meant is why there is no s2 hyouka (even though is more popular) but his other works got adapted first is because the studio that adapts hyouka had an accident and lost some key staff (you can look it up)

from what i know, ... hyouka novel ( vol 1-6) is from 2001 - 2016, while shoushimin series was made at 2004,
so is not like the author switch from hyouka to shoushimin, he just done with hyouka

He has written other series besides Hyouka, as well as short stories and complete works in one book. He does not appear to be obsessed with producing works on a regular basis, as there are no books in his Hyouka series that are regularly released.

Also, many of his award-winning works of mystery fiction and general fiction in Japan are complete in a single book. I think the type of his works that can be completed in a single book, rather than a series of books, is more likely to be read by a variety of people, not just those who like light novels.

@kihel Bro thinks he's the author of Hyouka.

@aurora_yuuki

Yeah, that's a translation error. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll fix it.

Also why not Hyouka S2? Some factors involved, but the main reason was the key staff were killed in KyoAni incident.

Because not only the director died but Kyoani doesn't want to work for Kadokawa anymore.

He doesn't release a new volume since 2016. It's his pacing I guess. Same with the Haruhi author.

That's also the main reason why there wasn't a second season even though the series is one of KyoAni's most famous projects.

Maybe because the source from the novel to be turned into a one cour tv adaptation is still not enough.
I've read all Yonezawa's Hyouka series, and the only part that hasn't been adapt to anime is only volume 5 and volume 6. Volume 5 is like a full story, from first chapter till the last chapter and Volume 6 is a collection of six short stories. Volume 6 was release like 8 years ago and if i'm remember correctly he was tweeting that he will start writing for Volume 7 like three years ago, but still no news after that. So I think for season 2 is still far away...
