Well, that's no normal cave. It seems like it gives off a strange sensation that makes people lose in themselves but also, an interesting setting in their world.

As the hunt for that monkey monster's secrets continue, I think this episode just made its lore more interesting.

The white shard that King Saku orders Yukiya to bring back to him, even Wakamiya is able to piece the series of events, but they don't have the entire picture still.

With half of the time remaining, Wakamiya being there makes no sense, other than the fact that he knew that negotiations would fail between the Palace and the Underground, much les trying to read King Saku's mind. Even Sumio got tricked by Hamayu, and scurries over to the Underground, which Yukiya is in deep trouble because the thread, seemingly cut halfway, only takes them into roundabouts back to the same place, and this is the exact case where Wakamiya was trying to amend the cracks within Yamauchi, and the barrier perceives them as threats to block their pass. With no options, both the Prince and his servant has to run blind, relying on their sense of smell back to the entrance, smelling of cassia and sandalwood to reach back the entrance safe and sound.

With the shard confirming it to be a human's Adam's apple in skeleton bone form, having Yamauchi act as a border to the yatagarasu against the humans who rule the world outside their border, the monkeys certainly saw another species like themselves, but didn't see eye to eye, which they ended up kidnapping the Central girls for profit from their bones to the monkeys, which was then sold illegally though a broker even through the cracks of the Underground. This all led to Koume's father Jihei, whom their villages were perfect bait for the job, and since human bone act as the Sagecap drug to forcefully turn humans to turn into yatagarasu, everything just clicks into place.

Most certainly, the Underground did Wakamiya a BIG favour into tracking down their culprit, and also Yukiya in knowing that humans do rule land outside of their control. And since the barrier around the boundary is weakening, more disturbing instances like these will only lead to Yamauchi's demise...starting with the self-suicide of Jihei.

What a mystery, but also, losses are to be expected.

WAIT, ITS THE MODERN WORLD OUTSIDE OF YATAGARASU?!! Holy shit man these twists that this story has legitimately throw me for loops. It’s the first show in so long that can genuinely surprise me. Only two more episodes left man 😭 what’re we gonna do when this ends.

So Saku wasn’t a bad dude after all. Nice misdirection setting the underground up as some big bad place when in reality Saku and the Prince go way back. He did withhold Jinhei’s name though which was a little sus, but he came clean about the other stuff so he’s decent in my book.

I figured we would eventually get some stuff on the outside world given how claustrophobic the story felt at times and then when we saw the prince restoring the boundary, but I NEVER would’ve guessed that this actually takes place in modern day and Yamauchi is just closed off isolated from the rest of the world. Seeing that notebook with planes, card and other modern shit is blowing my mind

And the sagecap being crushed human bones is also crazy. I figured there was some connection between the two, but didn’t expect this at all. That makes things even more fucked up.. getting high on human bones probably affects the Yatagarasu so much since they’re imitating human physiology.

Yamauchi on the road to destruction, Koume’s dad dead.. wild ending and so many questions left to be answered. I can not wait until next episode but at the same time I don’t want it to come cause I don’t wanna be a week closer to this ending 😭

To think that the harem drama is just a distraction, the real punch is this borderline sci-fi about borderline weakening.

Evidently it seems like the bird people used to live in human society in the past, or rather, blend in, but at some point the bird people decide to leave human society (a good decision in my opinion LOL) and live by themselves, probably a thousand years ago to before Sengoku period.

PS: The end credit card fulfill my size difference fetish.

Ok so the monkeys and the sagecap are all from the same source. The monkey's eat humans and then sell the human bones for Yatagarasu meat. The human bones are then used to make sagecap. The outside world is also a world of modern humans, like modern Japan. Now the barrier between these worlds is weakening and probably going to collapse.

At the end there it seems like Jihei the water seller seems to have died?

Still only 2 more episodes? Still so much to explore. I hope we get another season.

I really didn't like this plot twist with the modern world because it really devalues the world building.
The emperor ends up not just being the golden raven of the prophecy, but also being isekai'ed twice, so there are questions about why he didn't start making progress in his country and gradually introducing modern technology while his people languish at a low level of development and do heavy physical labor.
Okay, too rapid development can be dangerous for the country, but there are also small things that would greatly improve the lives of the peasants. For example, fertilizers and antibiotics.

Bro, this was a mind blowing episode, I mean this taking place in a modern era? Humans as an unknown concept to the characters? This shit was already burning but man, today more firewood has been thrown to it! I'm not sorry for all the bois who are missing out on this.

Disfruté Mayoiga, Ou-sama Game, Evil or Live, Mirai Nikki, Big Order, Arifureta, Ex-Arm, Tesla Note, Shuumatsu no Harem y Platinum End
nope les falle con esa, lo siento pero todos tenemos nuestros límites.
Así de jodido es mi gusto en anime, ¡Y estoy pinche orgulloso de ello!

What fantastic world building! now everything has been clarified and a new future enemy would be humans? My god, what madness. This was one of the best episodes for me so far, everything expanded phenomenally and logically.

@el_morris It's probably in a modern era. Just pay attention to the drawings Yukiya saw in that book when they returned to Yamauchi. There were cars and people in suits in the drawings.

That's actually a good theory.

It also makes me think that Wakamiya "studying abroad" was actually to infiltrate the human society and learn from them, in order to gain some perspective and wisdom for his struggle back home.

I just hope he doesn't pull out a rocket launcher from his back pocket or something... It's a dangerous game the writers are playing here.

I hope with get a season 2 soon but I’ll keep my expectations low cause JCstaff has a lot of upcoming shows so they’re probably swamped

Am I missing something? Pierrot is animating this season. They don't seem particularly busy in the near future either, except for Bleach maybe?

Okay, that was one of the coolest twists in any anime for a long time. Suddenly, a reverse-isekaei twist Super cool and I hope this anime gets a 2nd season, because I totally wanna see these people interact with modern day humans

This show's had some twists but this definitely one-upped them all, damn. Not quite sure if I love it or hate it, that remains to be seen with how this is handled. This show's been decent though so I'm relatively confident the author could pull it off.

@Rexnihilo his death is the biggest give away that koume was the ring leader all along and yukiya was right to be suspicious of her

@perseii Yagatarasu is a different production team from Boruto, Black Clover and Bleach, so it's very safe if they want to produce the next season as long as this anime manages to make a profit.

@perseii that makes perfect sense!
The drawings must've been drawn by him when he was "abroad".

...also my mind errors when I try to image him wearing modern clothes. Or suit. To blend in in human society.

Can't decide if the show just jumped the shark or not with that reveal of the outside world.

I'm also expecting one more big twist to do with Koume. They already pulled the "innocent girl is actually the most evil character" twist once, so I'll be damned if they get one over on me again.

To think I dropped this show back on april because I didn't find the first three episodes interesting.

After reading several times on some forum that it's actually pretty great I picked it up again and although I still don't enjoy it, it has definitely become more interesting and better since there.

Looking at the release dates, it suffered quite some delays huh? But it looks like it's gonna be finished with no problems so that's good.

And this last reveal? I guess the show isn't actually historical if that's what the outside world looks like? They pulled out a Yomi no Tsugai kind of setting as a twist.

Lol'd when Wakamiya explained that he was pulling the strings all along, this guy.

Here's answer to the question I had of whether there is humans or not and they were in the outside world they spoke of, makes sense. The moment humans were mentioned I could immedietly made the connection that the drug they were selling were from human bones and I was right. They were smoking human bones, damn. We finally got pretty much the whole picture of the mystery with crazy reveals.

The delays are from unrelated sports/other event broadcasts on the same timeslot and not from production issues.

I knew Koume's father was a drug dealer but shit is deeper than I thought.

Also, I was under the impression that this takes place centuries ago. No we know that they are living in contemporary times but Yamauchi is isolated from the rest of the world.
