I know they tried to do a plot twist for the season finale but this bizarre, even for this show. To be fair, I thnk this episode's "final boss" twist looked like something Fei and the others had to think outside the box to get through.

In that labyrinth, it looks like anything could happen so having a resurrection bell did make a difference. Definitely well played though. This final game/challenge took more than just brute force.

The finale game.

Fey and the rest of his team reached the deepest part of the labyrinth, only to find that the final boss was already dead. However, this place was known as the Labyrinth of Death and Rebirth: Luceimia. If it was impossible to clear the labyrinth without the final boss, then they just needed to defeat it after reviving it. Fey and the rest of his team used the item Bell of Resurrection, but nothing seemed to happen... At that moment, Fey noticed something crucial.

Just please, can we stop making these ripoff wannabe NGNL's for the love of god....

To make matters worse, author Sazane just doesn't stop winning when it comes to anime adaptions of his works, with two on the way next season... FUCK.

Fay and the girls finding themselves falling from a pit straight to the boss's room, it's a lucky break for them, but they need to gather the other students to be with them also, plus all of the rare items that would help everyone progress the same. Who would've thought that the side story of the Puffy Puffs would prove critical for the progression of the game. Alas, there is a Transformer-looking raid boss of Sphinx the Guardian stopping Fay and the girls in their track...that Uroboros can defeat with her one punch, that unfortunately got in the way of the game master. But at least it cleared the way for progression.

The game being in its near-completion, it isn't quite done yet, and both Dax and Kelrich came back to help on a high probability 24-face dice game that the former can execute in one go. This should end the Gods' game, but it still ends up being complete, and they had to go back to the original giant hole that would mark their completion to face Anubis, the God of the Underworld. It's literally a boss rush mode facing all of the raid bosses but empowered...if not for the fact that the Sleeping Lion did the exact same attack to wipe out her own monsters, and Anubis being a dunce and not to showcase her magic prowess by literally destroying the entire arena, all for fun until she's satisfied to give them the win, for a rather difficult game.

Yikes, this show only certifies that the author, Kei Sazane, imitates stories with quantity, but with absolutely no quality to back it up.
Also, GGWP (Good Game Well Played), it is a predictable shitshow.

Next season's return of KimiSen and his new work of Naze Boku no Sekai wo Daremo Oboeteinai no ka? a.k.a Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World? will be equally as shitty (though I have at least hope for the latter).

I enjoyed this series. Games it promised and games we received! Anubis made for a fun final boss. She really had a hankering for one-shot kill attacks. My favorite game overall remains that card game from episode 6. That one was tons of fun and reminded me what I liked so much about watching animes like that. 7/10 show for me!

Mistagged lol. It shouldn't have ecchi tag at all, there was little to no fanservice

Thank God(pun intended) this is over. Worst show of the season by a big margin. Interesting concept and a few of the games were decent like this final game against Anubis with some cool stakes, but production values were really bad and a lot of the games were underwhelming. Story never hooked me. Looks like a few people did, fair play.

The girls were the best part for me. If they’d actually gone with the ecchi like the tags had us thinking, probably would’ve been a lot better.

On the bright side, Sazane sensei’s best work, Kimisen is finally back next season along with another adaptation. Such a prolific writer. Hopefully writing all these stories didn’t hurt the quality of Kimisen because that was one of my faves from 2020.

I agree with KitsuFrost. It was a pretty "okay"-ish show. It was not like squaring the circle, but still a nice start into the week.
Some games were catching, where I was curios to see what was coming next, like the Casino game witht he book maker or the final game - and some were less entertaining for me , like the one where they try to make the God say "Ouch!". Probably depends on which game they play. I don't know the Light Novel, but maybe this is a show, which could get more interesting and plot-driven after the 13 episodes, we saw.

Although I'm curious to see how the story about Leolesha, Fay, Pearl and everyone continues, there a lots of series of Spring 2024, which would deserve a second season more.

As already mentioned by KANLen09, Kei Sazane will also accompany us in the next season, with a new show, so maybe we'll see each other again there.👋

About the ecchi tag, I think it is inaccurate and misleading as there was hardly any fanservice here so I think it should be removed (this reminds me of a series I watched last year named "Liar Liar" in having a similar plot and even originally having the ecchi tag too although it was eventually removed).

Regarding the series as a whole, I thought that the character designs were decent but the animation was average and the main storyline was somewhat dull and repetitive and I didn't care for the "asspulls" that occurred throughout some of the games. At least the last couple of episodes were somewhat entertaining but the series as a whole was just ok. 6/10

@Zarutaku Mistagged, very much so. I asked MAL to remove it 2 weeks ago now but no action on their part.

As for the show itself, I'd call it very much average. Decently average.

Was that Misaki Kuno voicing the boss? At first I thought it was someone else until I heard her usual high-pitched voice lol. That was the least Misaki Kuno Misaki Kuno I've ever heard. I love Anubis design btw.

Drax is so extra, I love it.

I guess Ouroboros is now part of the team. She was fun to have around this last couple of episodes so that's nice but it's funny how there was nothing really official about her situation and the anime ended just like that xD.

Well, what can I say about this show? I wasn't very convinced with the first couple of episodes but little by little it won me over. The girls really made this series better, especially Pearl, I loved Pearl <3. And in the end I can say that while it was nothing extraordinary, I had fun.

I don't think it has the best chances but I wouldn't mind a second season.

The biggest offender was definitely the opening. Pretty solid song by AliA followed by horrid visuals with barely any animation (basically a slideshow).
The vocalist's performance for The Iceblade Sorcerer ended up being more memorable even though that show also had cheap visuals. Looking forward to her performance for KimiSen 2 and really hoping that she'll be able to perform a theme song for show with a top quality production values.

The season ended, all the games were very good, this last one was incredible how they resolved calmly and with time to beat the goddess who was impossible and who had already given up but even so Fay and her companions won, the best game is still the cards, but the season as a whole was great

LOL This episode was just in time with the release of the Elden Ring DLC, especially it getting mixed reviews because it is 'too hard' for a lot of players (like what's new? it's a game by FromSoft, right?) but yeah, the entire Anubis game is technically a game which requires you to get the Platinum trophy to unlock the real ending 😂

Not a ground-breaking anime adap and probably will not get a season 2 anytime soon, especially since the source Light novel is quite new, but fortunately this coming season, Summer 2024 (July 2024), two anime adaptations from the same author (Sazane Kei) will be coming out: one is the 2nd season of 'Our Last Crusade', and one is the 'Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World?'. So expect easter eggs on the latter like what happened in the 1st episode of this anime. This might get a mid score especially people have too much copium expecting this might be a good 'alternative' to No Game No Life, but we all know no single anime can replace that.

And so, they went with plans to 100% the game... (I wonder how long they spend in this Game... hours, days, weeks?)

BTW, that Sphinx... sound very familiar... LOL

But got one punched again by the other God... (which still doesn't answer my question about Leo losing her powers... especially somehow with her joining as part of the group with her full God powers intact...)

.

Also... we sure this Dax dude isn't cheating? SIX 1s on a multi-face Dices? HUH?

Also also... how the hell is Dax able to go back and forth between regular and game world? HUH HUH? ? ?

As suggested by Fay saying "So you're going back?" The only back... is to regular world, there's no other back... unless to the respawn? but that's pointless for Dax... lol (not to mention we didn't see him back at the beginning when Fay went back to the beginning...)

.

Anubis looks cute tho,

"Her weakness is her brain"

LOOOOL, MC literally just called her stupid. (which to an extend... is true...)

But her passion is she loved RPG game a bit too much (and she somehow "died" again... why? lol)

I guess she knows exactly how 100% speedrunner feel when they finished a RPG game huh... (especially with no bug/ glitch runs)

Random episode thoughts:

- Leoleshea: "What's that?"
Ouroboros: "Uh huh. An arena."

Thank you, Captain Obvious.

- Fay: "We need to 100% the labyrinth." And the animators, clearly aware they were running out of time, decided to speedrun that part of the story in less than 8 minutes.

- The show once again remembered it was labeled as an "ecchi", so it shoehorned in an eleventh hour scene with our main female characters in swimsuits for one last time.

- Didn't expect one of the raid bosses to be a mecha. But Ouroboros' wanted to end the episode asap, and cut short that guardian sphinx's time to shine right after its transformation scene. 😂 Of course, this meant that she got kicked out of the labyrinth.

- Dax's big contribution to the episode can be summed up by:
> Barges into the labyrinth
> Finishes the last gimmick needed to 100% the labyrinth
> Refuses to elaborate further
> Leaves

Personally, I wished the show overall had more moments such as this.

- "Summoning all these bosses at once is cheating!" With how good Fay is with games, I'm surprised he was seemingly caught off guard by this development.

- LMAO. I didn't expect that countering the sleeping lion's special attack with umbrellas would instantly level the playing field by eliminating all the bosses Anubis summoned. 😂 More moments like this please.

- Fay: "I know your weakness. You're stupid!"
Anubis: "No. You're stupid, you stupid-head!"
😂

- Didn't expect a Lord of the Rings reference with "You shall not pass!"

- Yes, the series managed to channel its inner Sword Art Online by having Fay and team clear the game, which allowed all the players to leave.

- Remember the mysterious Onee-san who taught Fay to enjoy games? Well, I hope you weren't invested with that plot point since we have no time to answer that in this season.... 😔

- Fay: "There's a brand new game out there!" Yes, Fay and it's the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion for Elden Ring. 😂

Wow. I didn't expect to comment on so many bits of the finale. And I laughed more in this installment. I guess that makes it the show's most enjoyable episode, at least for me.

--------------

Overall series impression:

After finishing all 13 episodes, I really wish that Gods' Games We Play was far more relaxed than what it ended up being. I enjoyed it more during its moments of levity, instead of those parts when it was drowning the audience in its technobabble with the mostly convoluted rules for the games. The lack of a consistent logic for most of the game rules, and the series' bland way of presenting them to the audience was disadvantageous. I enjoyed the series more when the game rules were presented in clearer manner, and when the means to defeat them were clear Chekov's guns that the show had properly established beforehand... rather than Fay seemingly pulling things out of thin air. Maybe a well made abridged series can salvage all of this?

Is Gods' Games We Play the worst show of the Spring 2024? I don't know. But its hard to recommend this series with all of its shortcomings. No Game, No Life fans are likely to see this show as a cheap knockoff. Ecchi fans will feel cheated as the "fanservice" is nothing more explicit than what you typically get in anime nowadays. Average Joes might get bored with how the games are typically presented. The series grew on me as the episodes went on, but doubt most folks will have the patience to stick around for long.

well, i had to say after watching all the episodes, it is not bad , but is not great. although i did appreciate that they did explain games' mechanism including win/lose condition, (althought last lose condition was left me shocked), the animation studio have to better in the animation quality, reduce the brightness althought understood they want to differentiate between real world and game world, but after all it is enjoyable to watch, and also the irony of using opening song for the final battle

and where can i get soundtracks for this anime because some background music kinda left me intrigued to listen more

i had to agree, Ayame (AliA vocalist)'s performance for theme songs so far so superb in my opinion, despite the animation for the opening.

since i heard Dystopia, i really can't get out of my head until now how powerful her vocal. and for next one, she will sing both opening and ending for KimiSen 2 , opening with her band (AliA), and ending collab with musical unit Sizuk..

However, ayy, this is a fun show. I laughed a lot at this show even though it was very bad. I watched this only because AliA sang the opening song.
