It's all systems go, as Namidome and the Ryugan Island Islanders' Association prepare to stop Shiota Chem in whatever capacity they can.

With the aim to collect the leather coral from the electrogenic bacteria, everything needs to work like clockwork, which also accounts or any sighting of Giant Beasts. The damage done by Heaven Industries, that put a spin on Arumi's findings to see that the Giant Beasts were but a manifestation, while Muto just escaped by the bare skin of his mechanical teeth electrocuting the Beasts in water. There are more Giant Beasts lurking around, one which is too close to their central communications HQ, that Arumi pulled through with Bullbuster to stop one from raging harm.

A rather gigantic Giant Beast, that Tajima attempts electrocution on land...except that they missed landing the attack, running it in the ocean with Tetsuro in Bullduck trying his best to stop it, but to no avail. He's the typical screw-up guy, but for all his shenanigans, he decides to be a hero to contain the Giant Beast and execute the job, which they are all relieved for once. Together with President Kanie, they secure the HR-E biochemical before Shiota Chem could claim the island, not before the case which holds said importance evidence, it was a good diversion, not without the rag-tag company whom for all their differences, makes a company such as Namidome.

The war is finally over, and the island's restoration is in order, but not without Tajima seeking Washizu who has their evidence on hand, standing for what's right and putting a stop to the future of Giant Beasts.

Yeah, it feels like a rushed ending, but this is theoretically the only way to end "Business as Usual".
A niche show for the corporate people, Bullbuster may not be perfect, but it's a fine show for what it is.

A win for the bald.

A decent grounded mech related story that offer some perspective into the corporate world, but the lack of proper set up and built make it impact only on the surface level thus lessen any intrigue and stakes.

That sure was one of the anime.

And despite the president saying "The battle is just getting started" I can absolutely assure you that the battle is over. Washizu will try and get that jar through customs and they're going to fucking crucify him lmao

I get that Bullbuster had an important theme about japanese corporations and stuff, but the execution (especially CGI, Studio NUT should just outsource this part) was just...yeah. Nothing (and no one) had a lot of time for proper development, and it was especially apparent in how this show ended.

I'd like to quote Mr. Hideo Kojima-san here: "This is Japanese manga and animation."

Sure, this was not as good as the "mighty" Pluto (which he talks about here), but this anime's staff can still be proud for having successfully produced such a well rounded, well written series, with an excellent cast of vivid and endearing characters, aimed for an older audience with an old school charm, yet with relevant thematics for today. No commercial potential, but they've managed to do it.

There hasn't been much recommendations for this entry on this website, but you sure have to check out the Patlabor series if you liked Bullbuster. I think Robotics;Notes and Godzilla SP both also had a quite similar appeal, more recently. But the latter was a bit too pushy with the techno-babble.

@Sondfer The CG is already outsourced, just needed to outsource to a better studio.

It's hard to find a use-case for real mecha genre outside military use. But this anime manages to do just that. Though its messsage is either too simple or too deep that I can't find its true intention.

Overall fine. The plot was unique and it kinda enjoyable. Overall 6.40/10. Would’ve gave it higher if the CG for the monsters wasn’t god awful.

@ScottyNuked Same thoughts, lol. I even expected him to get apprehended right after the president's words, pity they didn't show it.

But it was a nice end overall, and I'd rather they didn't give such a weak hint to a possible continuation, because I probably wouldn't want to watch it.

Some details may be questionable, and the beasts looked ugly. At first, this anime looked like one of those with a messy plot where you don't really know what's going on. But here the plot was pretty solid and well enough thought through, with reason to all that's happened and a satisfying resolution. It was also somewhat interesting in a way it showed small company struggles, and how the good team can overcome a bigger threat if they all work together.

My 250th completed series chronologically.

For the record, I extended it a 7/10 rating.

This could have been a lot better if it was a movie instead of a 12 episode series. It was dragged out too long for a plot direction i saw coming pretty early on. This also would have allowed for better animation instead of the monster of the week format.

Changed to a 7/10 here as well.
Ending wasn't great. It felt really half assed and rushed in the last two episodes.

Quite a flashy ending! Nothing unpredictable, but I really enjoyed it. Especially Nikaidou's battle.
Interesting ending though. I like how the "head of the beast" managed to throw his subordinate under the bus and remains a threat. Both realistic and potential for another season!

As for Bullbuster as a whole, it is once again an (unpopular) anime original I'm more than satified with! Mixing Mecha-Monster-Battle-Survival stuff with Corporate Economy Schemes & Comedy turns out to be a formula of success, at least if executed as well as in this show.
Well, as I hinted, I have quite a lot to praise for this show. The pacing was perfect, exploring the island and fighting the giant beasts always had me on the edge of my seat, the comedy hit and Shiota's schemes were quite intriguing!
And while all of the characters were good, Nikaidou gets special praise, as the arc around her and her dog was one thing handled truly outstanding!

As for flaws, well, there's the animation. But I don't care or let that affect my rating. So nothing really comes to mind!

A great anime orignal! 9/10.

An intense race against time to get the evidence, the Islanders, Namidome and Kanie all pitch in their war against Shiota Chem.
Veteran Mutou barely makes it out of being shocked with the giant beasts.
One escapes toward Namari in the Bullbuster where the ground unexpectedly splits. Despite wearing no protective gear, he's alive.
With Heaven's Industries' scandal of illegally dumping pets, Arumi strives to get the closure she needs, putting down the Giant Beasts that were unwillingly mutated by the bacteria and nano-machines.

Now there's a truly giant beast (having seen Godzilla Minus One last week and recently reading some notable Toku-inspired manga, I feel it's a good time to be a fan of Kaiju-media). With biggest beast of them all ducking the Bullbuster's cable, Okino in the Bullduck is dragged from the streets into the waters. Knowing what will happen if it reaches the mainland, he reverses the Bullduck's propulsion to pull themselves back. Remembering how hard his colleagues at the small company worked, electrocuting the beast before it gets away is important even if at the cost of himself and the Bullduck.

The decoy move with the chub mackerel Tajima pulled was so slick.
"I'm siding with the people who are always forced to make the sacrifices."- you tell 'em, Tajima. Everyone who works at Nadinome is a human being and all the islanders too, people with livelihoods that Shiota can't just sweep under the rug if they make a mistake.

Tajima catches Washizu fleeing with the coral at HND. All it takes will be a call to US customs and Washizu is toast.

I actually didn't mind and liked the second to last episode with the baldness medication entrepreneur guy appearing, even exposition heavy as it was, I tend not to mind and even favor exposition-heavy content compared to others, but I know at least some others had problems with that episode. But yeah, the very last episode and actual ending itself was quite rushed and felt quite rushed.

It's funny therefore that another user above commented that they would have preferred this as a film instead of a series. A movie would presumably be around an hour and a half to two hours as they often are. But I would have preferred the opposite. I would have preferred this as a series at least double in length, double cour, comprising around 24 - 26 episodes. It could have gone much more into depth then when following up some of the intricacies and emotional beats with the characters to render them more impactful and more in-depth with some aspects of the plot as well. For as far as concluding on a rushed note for an ending, this to me is a problem which is anything but limited to Bullbuster as a series. It's a problem I observe with a lot of one cour, 11 - 13 episode series other than more purely Slice of Life ones or ones which are more arthouse projects super intentionally and deliberately to fill that exact amount of episodes in every aspect of the way they are written from start to finish.

For more standard drama, action, Sci-Fi, adventure, etc. stories which follow a more traditional plot structure I often find it is not enough without trimming a lot, not being able to conceal the feeling that a lot is being trimmed, and it's my main problem with the trend toward one cour, 11 - 13 episode series in more recent years whereas many series like this in the not-too-distant past used to easily receive at least double the episode count and length to do their thing and be allowed to breathe.

Pretty much agree that it could have benefitted I think from more.
Don't know if it needed 24, but it definitely needed a little more.

It's a great finale to a seemingly niche and very self-serious series. I teared up when Okino was ready to get electrified together with the beast, although I guess his machine is insulated... still, the performance is almost top-notch here.

Even with seemingly not that grand of a budget and no way to become an industry-wide hit, the studio went to an extra mile to make the people here look as alive as possible. It's worthy of respect and I'm looking forward to whatever they do next. It's not a stellar success, but it clearly shows everyone that you don't have to be riding on the waves of "hype" or deviancy to make a great series... however popular.

Tajjma really took centre stage in the last quarter of Bullbuster. His growth in his character was great and the VA really sold it with a great performance.
