We finally getting some advice from Teio instead of only from Nice Nature, though that sparkling aura moment from Nature was out of nowhere.

It's still kind of slow / not much going on episode though.
An episode of self-discovery for Kitasan.

Kind of a lackluster ending, felt a bit sudden.

Credits this time listed the store owners.

Kitasan feeling depressed but that's ok. I think she should focus on her own goals rather than comparing herself with others.

This episode also had a festival feeling to it although I wish Kitsan was in a better mood for the first half. It's still great to see she has so much support though.

Poor Kitasan. Don't be sad, girl. <3

I really liked the conversation between her and Teio. I'm glad Teio made her feel a lot better.

That huge pile of food was somehow amusing. What a nice people. :)

And so, Kitsan's self-discovery arc begins!

As the new year arrived, Kitasan set out for a stroll with Daiya to make their first shrine visit of the year. Kitasan learned of Daiya's wish to contribute to the world of Japanese Uma Musume by winning the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Witnessing Daiya's aspirations, Kitasan couldn't help but recall the image of the legendary Duramente from the past. Despite feeling disheartened by the contrast between those who gaze beyond victory and set goals and his own lack of direction, Kitasan.

Damn, Kitasan seems deeply affected by this loss, huh? Thankfully, Nature-sensei is there to offer support. Look, it's Spica, the best girl. They've got her selling Omamori now. Kitasan's nervousness around Diamond is a bit strange, but it makes sense. Oh wow, Kitasan completed the cube; Gold Ship would be proud. Teio had a heartfelt conversation with Kitasan about her goals and dreams, and it really resonated with her, I suppose. The people in that little area are so kind to Kitasan.

Now it's up to her to discover what makes her a star.

Kitasan in a slump and it was nice of everyone else to help her out even if some of the advice was a bit harsh.
Now the question is what will she do moving forward seeing her friends want to go on a international stage where she doesn't really wants to go to from the looks of it.
Well next week should be interesting.

Btw Kita's father is based on Kitajima Saburo, irl Kitasan Black's owner. He is an enka singer and lyricist. And the name "Kitasan" comes from his name:
北島三郎 (Kitajima Saburo)
北 (kita) - "north"
三 (san) - "three"
And "Black "comes from his father, Black Tide.

Really enjoyed this one too. Good to have some character-focused episodes. Hope to see more Duramente and Cheval Grand and her sisters though.
And now I have no idea what will happen next. Exciting!

Dia speech about what she wants in her future is really sad, to say they least.
Again some subtle detailing...
Also duramente, heh.

So, I've been wondering and now that teio mentioned the dream league trophy, it's another league were veterans go to race and that's why we haven't see any of the other spica girls racing?, except for gold ship that last time were she announced that was going to said league.

I would like to know more about that.

Kita mentions she "is not as talented" which is also an interesting detail.
She won 1 crown and lost to duramente 3/3 times, they were horses of the same generation so duramente was considered a more talented one, but well, talent isn't everything.
This is true even for Kitasan son Equinox who won 0 crowns (!) but by current moment not even being 5 years old already won 5 G1 races, including Dubai race where he fought the best horses at the planet and completely smashed them, taking record of the track down by 1 second while not really running last 100 m, overtaking the best western horse Westover by about 3,5 length, commentator calling him "titan of the world's turf".
He probably will become the most earning japanese horse in history and has really good chance to become greatest japanese horse of all time (not to mention he is already ranked number 1 in world rankings of racehorces) - and all of this despite him not really shining in his early years kinda similar to kitasan.
In general Kitasan genes seem to kick in later in career unlike Teio/Duramente which mostly shined at it start.

I do feel for Kitasan Black. Sometimes when you least expect it, you suffer a defeat which really makes you question your whole reason for competing. There's no denying that she's had a very good record in her G1 racing so far, but losing to Diamond by a whisker has really effected her self confidence quite a lot. Nice Nature did her best to give her some words of encouragement, but it was hearing more about Diamond's goal of wanting to win the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and Duramente's questions about what her true goal is only made Kitasan Black fall further into her mental slump.

So it rested on her idol, Tokai Teio, to give her a massive boost. Teio went on about a lot of the events that she went through in season 2, where she also couldn't achieve her ultimate goal, but it was nice to see her striving for a new goal altogether in the Dream League Trophy. Teio didn't pry into Kitasan's issues, but she knew that things would work out.

Later on, Kitasan's training jog took her into the familiar market street that she always help out and seeing everyone having a sale named after her, as well as giving her freebies and words of encouragement helped her finally realise what she wants to aim for. She's battled through her emotions throughout this episode, but I'm glad that she's now got a goal that she wants to give it her all to achieve. =)

I can only hope that this will help her to get back to winning once again. We shall see in due time.

In the end, Kitasan falling short of her own best friend by a horse's hair breadth, it's just THAT close. Even Nice Nature's pep talk does make Kitasan understand much more about Satono Diamond, now gunning for the France I'Arc de Triomphe after her win. But deep within the Satono family, the curse still lingers for some, and Duramente is going through her therapy to get back in the race.

Kitasan's worry about being the undefeated Triple Crown horse girl, not even Tokai Teio did it last season, but whatever she managed to attain, it was a feat of her time, having her fair share of supporters and rivals. And where Kitasan is now, is like Teio herself, just at the point of discovery of the dream. It's good that Kitasan has supporters from the market that spur her to push on after the dazzling performance at the Arima Kinen.

A bit of a retrospective episode, but it sure sets up the finale for what's to come for Kitasan Black.

I don't think there's much to say, it's just totally made up tbh, since Gold Ship themselves retired after that Arima Kinen run from Episode 3.
They could probalby make some fun sidestory stuff up but they wouldn't be able to base it off of any irl races since the irl horses stopped racing when they "entered" that league.

I loved Teio's speech to Kita, she talking about all her feelings felt like the real closure for S2.

Sorry if my english is bad (っ˘▽˘)っ~~~
Btw, cry about it.

Really appreciate that verxina is the one that tries to motivate cheval and the line where she said "we're pretty much the same" really hit hard when you look on her career record. She probably will get some more spotlight on cheval focused episode as well.Although I don't know if remaining episode is enough to tell kitasan story for this season and kinda made me assume that they would make extra ep have longer watch time or being aired in the pakatube channel instead.Still a good decision to give kitasan a bit more of motivation episode imo. Some people kinda think this ep plot advancement wasn't really needed because it already took 1 episode in the season and there's quite many more important events to summarise within this season.

Was a day late to this episode unfortunately, but the good thing about this day and age is if you didn’t catch something when it came out, it’s still there to watch lol. And this was a pretty good one about Kitasan trying to find her reason for running, or more like rediscover since she ended up renewing her dream of being a star like her dad. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Kitasan being down the whole episode but I did enjoy her getting pep talks from two of my favorite horse girls, being Nice Nature and Tokai Teio, so in hindsight I don’t mind seeing her upset lol.

And I will say I did like the moment at the end where those vendors all gave her free stuff because she’s their star, that kinda made it feel like it was worth seeing her doing some truth seeking throughout the episode, and hopefully now she’s good to kick some ass next time.

@Grecefar It's essentially something like horse Valhalla, the ones in there are characters whose irl careers were adapted to the point when their irl counterparts retired (The race in episode 3 this season was Gold Ship's last race irl). So Suzuka should be there too for example.
Since the anime only adapts irl races, I highly doubt we'll ever see any Dream Trophy League races.

What a touching episode.
I know more or less of how Kitasan felt when her best friend seemed so different and a bit distant from her. Losing sight of your goals and dreams is very common on these situations.

Tokai Teio gave Kitasan Black the advice she needed to hear, in the sense that they're very much alike in different points of life. They both have support from someone else and, while Teio had a new goal in the form of a rival, Kitasan found a different reason to move forward. And that's okay, as long as she can get back to racing once again.

I also like how despite having very different visions in life, Satono Diamond still cared deeply for her friend, invited her to go to France and race together. We shall see what Kitasan's response will be in the next episodes.
