Got to see Flamme from the manga, and she has a reputation of being one of the greatest mages of all time in their world, even from thousands of years ago. Truly a great talent.

This episode focused a bit on her relationship with Frieren and I think it's an unique one among this season. Flamme is such a mysterious yet powerful individual even in this timeline/era.

  • The scene Frieren revealed her true power was well done. I didn't expect the rendering that Frieren's aura swallows both Aura and her aura.
  • It was also good elaboration that Aura's hair was shredded by the sword.

We learned a few more things about Flamen which is nice and we got to see a lot of history this episode.
Despite her long life Frieren seemed to be living really modest and pretty much staying at the same place, she did see a lot of development tho.
Anyway Aura's death is a bit disappointing compared to the previous episode

I love how this anime has such a minimalistic method to teach the audience a big lesson, very effective, just like Frieren's magic.

This episode plays with the passage of time again, while it might seems like a one-trick pony, but it's such a nice trick to have, isn't it?

Elf race is amazing, sure, with someone like Frieren belonging to the race, but human race is as impressive as well, after all, Frieren's teacher is human.

If only my favorite boy Stark appear in this episode, it'd be perfect.

That last scene was not that graphic and yet it might've been one of the most haunting scenes I've ever seen...
We all know Frieren will have more mana but in the shoes of Aura, when her confidence in her mana was swallowed by Frieren, she had a mind-break moment; her reality and life unraveled in an instant and that moment was further enhanced by the POV shot of her head falling while Frieren was slowly walking away. Damn! What a poetic episode. Love it.

12:12 Google translate says Auserlese means "choice". Also I'm pretty sure this isn't the correct spelling because googling it gave me "auserlesen".
Flamme's favorite spell is the same one Frieren cast on Himmel's grave aaaahhhh the feels
I loooove the similarities in the dialogue so much. And pretty much all of Flamme's lines.
18:24 A dragon fight, a fight with Qual (the demon that made Zoltraak), the previous fight with Aura, them reaching the demon castle. Loved this moment!
This was so damn good. The "fight" was badass as hell.

@LS_11

Frieren is not a genius. Mana increases with years of training so the older the mage, the greater the mana. Frieren got that powerful because she trained for 1000 years. Aura only trained for around 500 years so her mana could never compare.

But this is only about mana. There's way more to the magic system in this series than mana. And it's not impossible for a mage with less mana than Frieren to beat her.

I really love the small details that this series has to offer. First of all, the Flamme Necklace Gems become the Frieren Earring. Then, we are shown that Frieren is so old that when she became Flamme's student, there was some ancient Greek architecture, clothing, etc. Now, probably in the medieval era, it shows how much time has passed since then.

Great to have more of Flamme. She's beautiful, strong, kind but harsh towards demons like how Frieren is. We even got a glimpse in Frieren's life or her journey since Flamme died untill she met Himmel. The portrayal was beautiful. Also finally the reveal that she was supressing her mana her entire life and her mana pool is actually huge. Big F for Aura, she didn't stand a chance. Glad to finally see this animated, waited for so long.

So.....in a way the magic works like DBZ or Bleach. With all the "I was suppressing my power. And, wow, they are powering up.".

Frieren may hate demons, but not enough to be proactive fighting them.

Fern and Stark's fight scene: Grand cinematic spectacle of a battle that doubles as a light show full of flashy moves, power struggles, and close calls
Frieren's fight scene: KYS. *walks away*

You can pinpoint the exact moment Aura's pride utterly disintegrates into fear. And it was delicious.

You thought we'd get some epic fight? PFFT. Joking aside, the depth this story and characters has, have in awe. Dedicating her entire life to that one thing and staying hidden to achieve her goal, insane.

Another 10/10 episode. Great world building on Demon's nature. Frieren is absolutely ruthless. She executed Aura in the most disrespectful and despicable way possible for demons by trembling on her pride and value. To be honest, I can't help but take pity on Aura and her subordinates. Their cruel nature is programmed, and it doesn't leave room for compromise. They are not evil, it's simply the way they are born

Overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer, in Aura's case it took 500 years but she met her match this time and took Frieren's bait hook, line and sinker. Some insight on Frieren's backstory and she really did live in the same woods honing her mana suppression for the centuries between Flamme's death and joining the Hero party. Aura never stood a chance.

Goodbye Aura, while Ayachi's stellar performance will be missed, I'm afraid I cannot say the same for you.

Great episode

Frieren straight up said

Aura looked so sad before she died, I guess the spell only works on actions and the victim can still think and talk.
It also means that demons have some real feelings (or it was just crocodile tears)

That ending was fucking awesome. Frieren just tanking the ego of Aura with the reveal of how powerful she truly was and just walking away and forcing her to die by her command made her look pretty damn badass, on top of the level of mana she had just exploding on screen to witness. In general, this was an excellent episode that is even better than the previous one for me even if a bit slow and not as much of the visual spectacle the other one was. It was great seeing Frieren when she was younger and her bond with Flamme that developed throughout the episode. The part where Flamme got much older and then Frieren learning her spell with the next shot being of the flower field was pretty bittersweet and poetic to watch. As a whole, this episode was magnificent and while there were a couple episodes where it did drag at times and could've been more interesting, these last bunch have been so great. I love that the main battle between Frieren and Aura was just a battle of mana levels and even ego to some degree for Aura, as she showcased her weaknesses that feature heavily amongst demons and underestimating their opposition completely, especially with sneak tactics involved that can outplay them and it hurt big time. The moment her pride crumbled and withered away felt rewarding and paid off well, even if she wasn't showcased too much as an actual character prior to this. It was scary how easy it was in the end for Frieren, never even broke a sweat. That was more impactful than seeing an actual fight between the two.

Frieren showing her mana at the end was cool af, no doubt about that. But feels like unnecessary risk. For what? A moment of satisfaction? She's been hiding it for 1000 years and if some demon observed them from distance that'd go to waste.
Also, she really should pick this scale. Seems like great weapon for long lived elf mage.

“Frieren. Just as demons deceive humankind with words, you must use your mana to deceive demons.
What an episode, diving into past history of Flamme and Frieren and insight on deception.

The flow of time is brought back and further defined, from ancient architecture similar to Rome to the medieval age with fortified cities and castles is a subtle yet direct impact of said time. For over a thousand years, so much has advanced since that first meeting between Flamme and Frieren. Remember that flower spell back at the tower with the blue flowers at Himmel’s state? That same spell has so much more depth and significance since it was the same spell that Flamme loved so much, leading to Frieren keeping that spell with her and making it more heartfelt every time it is used.

Demons see mana as a source of pride and their way of projecting power and strength, just like how humans use wealth and authority to exert power. Pride is everything for a demon, it’s a deadly sin for a reason. Deception is always a key factor in winning warfare, regardless of era. The moment Frieren revealed her mana to a higher volume, the realization kicked in for Aura. She let her pride and confidence get to her in believing she had the upper hand when in fact, she lost from the very beginning. 500 years is impressive, but to an elf mage who had lived for over a millennium with concealing mana her entire life, she was in another league by tenfold.

Waited for this episode and it delivered like a bomb being dropped. Left me tearful too for some reason haha.
Frieren Friday!

Most of this episode was basically a flashback but I liked it. I liked learning more about Frieren and her past.

Man, the way Frieren killed Aura was amazing. It was obvious what was gonna happen but it was still an epic scene. Absolutely incredible.

Some shows try so hard to make you care about a character and fail, but Flamme made me feel sad in the most natural way, with only some few minutes on screen, even though she died 1000 years ago.
If you're a fanboy, please don't waste my time.
