Yello Mello, I'm Risa! Nice to Meet Ya!
Hiya, nice to meet you guys. Please feel free to look around my profile, but please be respectful.
I'm no anime connoisseur, just someone drawn to their taste, whether trashy, mainstream, or hidden gems (at least by my standards). So I may not have watched a lot of critically acclaimed anime, but my profile represents a lot of works that I grew up around and hold a special place in my heart.
However, I am always open to exploring new genres and styles of work beyond what I normally confine myself to. Also, I have no desire to be pretentious or keep up with current trends. My favorites are my personal favorites, not what I believe is the best cinematically created or written or with any recency bias.
I've been watching anime for a long time now, and for someone who's been watching for as many years as I have, I realize I haven't nearly discovered as many works as I'd like to have. So I finally opened a MAL account in 2021, to start recording what I watched and what I'd like to watch going forward.
If you can notice, I'm a huge romance buff. If you have any recommendations, I'd love to look them over. My Plan-To-Watch list is full, one day I'd like to go through with it.
I'm also a huge fan of webtoons/manhwa, and my favorite work that isn't represented in MAL that I would love to give a shoutout to is:
PURPLE HYACINTH [Cue Applause xD]
An anime I've been watching for years and has a special place in my heart is:
[Drumroll please] DETECTIVE CONAN
A guilty pleasure that I used to deny a lot when I was younger, because I didn't want to be a cliche teenage girl obsessed with romance, is:
[Le gasp] Kaichou Wa Maid Sama
If I had to list three genres I like, (this is in general, I'm not referring to anime only) would be:
1. Romance
2. Fantasy/Historical
3. Mystery/Thriller
If I had to list three points I usually love to see in a story:
1. Tragedy (I love crying at a well written believable plot that's worth crying for)
2. Wholesomeness/Coming-of-Age
3. Nature elements (I love the attention to detail, especially in Ghibili movies that focus on the beauty of our world.)
Although I would like to point out that I wish to see more well-written adult cast shows. Now that I'm in my twenties, it's getting harder and harder to relate to the youthful school anime. But it's still charming to watch, just not as relatable haha.
If you made it this far reading all this, once again, nice to meet you ^^

Nice to meet you too. How are you doing?
LOL the things we do to impress our fam. My cousin use to knit when she was ~16? I died laughing and remember all the senior jokes I’d crack on her. Sheesh…I told her not too long ago that she should pick back up on it since she found it therapeutic. You never know, that muscle memory might kick in and you’ll naturally begin to make something, haha .
Did you ever finish Pokémon? I don’t think I ever made it to the final end where they finished it off…ummm…
I heard Fairytail is a great watch, but I remember hearing the later seasons were created from someone else so the art style changed along with the story? Is that accurate?
Once I started watching more, shounen was the main genre I followed as well till I stumbled upon SoL and rom/coms.
Having a good mix keeps me afloat ^^.
No way, you’re South Asian? Indian, Paki….or? (If you don’t mind me asking!). Aside from my family, I don’t know many in our ethnicity who watch anime….so it’s an absolute honor. :P
SoOoOo *ahem* I work with the elderly folks and I have just been spending a little too much time getting to know them. They’ve gotten me into puzzles, pickleball and I even contemplated CROCHETING. LOL But no no, thank you lol. I was absolutely terrible at tennis so since then I was recommended pickleball, I YouTubed how to play and now have a little community I play with every Friday. ^^
Thank you, regarding Arte. I simply love Arte. Her ambition, passion, and how she faces obstacles is something I relate with hardcore as a South Asian in my own way with education. :)
Yo, you’re telling me. After seeing some series, I went back to my friend and told him that Grave of the Fireflies should not be recommended to someone who is beginning to watch anime. And first show? It was FLCL, smh. Both of them made me think, “What did I just watch?” lol. Heavy stuff and the other one I thought I was high?
However, after that the selection got better and I found my genre, lol.
The three components you mention that you love in a story is something I truly resonate with.
The selection of Ghibli films you have…great choice! I have yet to see 2-3 of them, Kiki Delivery Service is one thats long overdue for me! Grave of the Fireflies and Girl Who Leapt Through Time were the first 2 films I was introduced to when I was getting more into anime.
Kaguya sama is really good, it's another one I dropped bc I just went ahead and read the manga aha. I'm allergic to watching stuff if I know how the plot is gonna go, so I often end up dropping things unless they're really special. Ancient Magnus Bride is one of them, it's why I originally dropped the anime but then I couldn't find any more of the books so it got left in the backburner! But imo it's peak fantasy, the worldbuilding is really enchanting and Elias' design is amazing haha
Code Geass I've heard sooo many good things about. I really wanted to like it, but I just never could get into it :( OHSHC is a different story though. I do have it as dropped but you won't believe just how many clips I've watched online to the point where I basically know the story in its entirety hahaha. Kaoru and Kyoya are both.... aaa. >///<
Did you grow up in the 2000's, if you were exposed to the culture that much? It really was the golden time of media imho
I might try to watch Shinsekai Yori tonight then. What better time to restart watching anime than the present?
I haven't seen Flower of Evil yet, but I might, once I get over the "can't watch anything" bit I'm apparently committed to lol
Would you say Shinsekai Yori is a good one? I see you scored it a 7. I'm thinking of watching this one since I heard some good things about it.
Yeah, watching anything hasn't been my cup of tea recently. I finished some dramas and movies and now when I want to get back to anime, I can't because somehow I can't even watch one ep without feeling antsy about it. >_< It's indeed a commitment to watch a full 12/24 eps anime nowadays. I mean, I'll have to give it a try eventually, but not today. Probably not this entire month if I think about it. I have too many things to do irl anyway.
Alright, I read your profile now. Do you happen to have any recs when it comes to romance manga? I'd like to try some. I might get into Kimi ni Todoke, but that's all I know of. And Nana of course (but I'm not sure if I want to read this one yet). I like mystery/thriller too, my fav thriller drama is Alice in Borderland. <3
Nice to meet you :D Thanks for accepting my fr >w<
