Passion project bros...Anime of the decade bros...Production masterclass bros...Auteur bros...Soul bros...Sakkan bros...Sakuga bros...Comp bros...Cinematic bros

"This anime is what csm should have looked like", they said. but why? why the blu ray sale is even lower than csm? was the anime bad? no shit

Don't tell me that this show wasn't popular, this shit was even as popular as lycoris recoil

But anyway, i hope the studio still want to adapt this. BD sales isn't even a cashcow anymore

First of fall, CSM has Blu-ray & DVD copies while Heavenly Delusion has only Blu-ray copies.
Next is the price - Chainsaw Man was almost 3 times cheaper than Heavenly Delusion. Remind you, that the price per every CSM copy was approximately 6.9k Yen (actually, between 6.8k and 6.94k Yen), while Heavenly Delusion worth a 19.8k price tag. And yes, what matters is not the number of BD/DVD copies, but the total revenue.
Chainsaw had about 1.735 copies, Heavenly Delusion has 645 copies in the first week (and that's despite the fact that the second volume will be in October). And now, very simple arithmetic:
6,900 × 1,735 = 11,730,000 yen
19,800 × 645 = 12,771,000 yen

Bottom line: Heavenly Delusion > CSM

And I don't care if Heavenly Delusion's sales are several times less than CSM's, as long as the total revenue of the project is higher.

@KanataX Try to read my post again, when did i said heavenly delusion was worse than CSM

BDs maybe isn't a cashcow anymore but most studios see BD sales as a token appreciation by fans

Honest question…why buy when we can just stream?

  • There are places where internet access is not working so well.
  • Streaming sites often do not renew licenses. I like to rewatch series I found good, sometimes ten years after they were released. I don't want to depend on the goodwill of streaming sites to be able to do so.
  • Finally, I don't want to pay 100+$ per month to be able to access all the possible series, when I'm interested in less than 10% of them, and will probably want to buy only 2 or 3 among them all. I prefer to give my money to the shows I find worthwhile instead of having 95% of what I pay used to produce series I don't care about.

Looks like a lot of people are missing your point. I feel like it’s pretty obvious with how much shit people said about CSM BD sales and because of that CSM "failed" so they should be saying the same thing here.

Hopefully this will put to bed that BD sales mean nothing because it’s a dated format, because obviously both CSM and HD are amazing anime’s

Not talking about the blu ray comparison with csm because I've seen a lot of comparisons that I already got used to and it's not what I want to talk here
I want to talk more about the "this shit was even as popular as lycoris recoil"
Because you forgot one thing there
The blu ray is japanese, and the people that buy them are japanese too.
Yes it's true that overseas they have almost the same popularity as lycoris recoil. But you're forgetting the fact that in Japan lycoris was one of the most popular shows there, and that has the best blu ray sales of last year, (excluding the jjk 0 because it's a movie and they count them in different ways) and of this year too, until now (with the release of the blu ray 5 on the start of the year) heavenly delusion IS NOT as popular as lycoris recoil in Japan, in fact, heavenly delusion wasn't even in the top 5 of spring shows in the opinion of most of the japaneses, it hasn't well received as it was here (kinda the same situation of csm with Japanese people not enjoying the adaptation and overseas everyone liked)
So that comparison DOES NOT make sense in blu ray terms, because the way that overseas and Japanese people receive Animes are completely different.

heavenly delusion is 15k oooo
while CSM is at 7500
so 645×15,000 = 9,675,000 for tengoku
and 7500×1,735 = 13,012,500

its not even close lmao and since Disney monopolized the streaming for tengoku i doubt that will help it lol

Lycoris Recoil was definitely more popular than Heavenly Delusion as I saw more people talk about it. It kind of was inescapable in certain circles, and Heavenly Delusion was not.

HD has manga to boost and a committee instead of one studio to fund it. That’s the big difference.

CSM needed Blu-ray sales because MAPPA took on the the entire financial burden of making it.

I don't get it, who the fuck buys blu rays anymore? Is this means to be surprising? This show was really good but not many people watched cause it was competing with like 500 other really popular shows so I'm not really surprised that the fairly niche show didn't get alot of sales for its borderline outdated technology.

I don't get on what basis people say this show wasn't popular.
It has many very positive reviews everywhere, it had good ratings here on MAL and just half the numbers of voters than the massively hyped Oshi No Ko, Kimetsu No Yaiba new season and Jigokuraku. It was actually the most downloaded shows on bittorrent, more than the previous three.
It may not be the most popular show, but it's probably just behind the three listed above for the season.

the point with chainsaw man is that its such a huge investment (no production committee and funded solely by the studio) and fans of it are expecting it to be as big as demon slayer but that did not materialize so its just too much expectations

I searched up the series on ami ami and I got like no results. So there is really no merchandise profits. I don't think Streaming can carry it anymore.
Chainsaw Man had strong merchandise sales
I know Spy X Classroom had below 100 BD sales but still has ln sales, some merch sales.

CSM literally huge when it airing on Japan. It number 1 on japan streaming site. CSM even showing on TV Japan rating when it airing and it have same rating like SpyxFamily. Mostly hate csm are manga reader, mostly japan normie watch csm and okay with it.

Heavenly delusion is not that high on streaming site and it not even showing on Japan tv rating.

What a waste of production values on this show as we can see, it didn't reach mainstream popularity nor even anime community popularity, Blu-ray sales were a flop and it was just another average/slightly above average show of the season for the critics, chances for a 2nd season looks grim now but on the good side, maybe Production I.G chooses another manga/IP that deserves to be amimated instead of the 2nd season of this show.

@CrazyFrogz the source material isn't even in the millions of sales. No merch either. Cutoff nowadays is considered 3k after streaming. Heavenly delusion is way below that. Also since production I.g. is the studio, huge net loss for them.
