I have always wondered if there is any story in the world covers great themes like Berserk. I need recommendations more than manga. Any form of media is acceptable.

I’d definitely say One Piece when it comes to story maybe not the same themes as Berserk but there are great themes in One Piece too, but if you’re looking for a great story definitely One Piece

I don't think so. I am already catching up to the manga. One piece is more about fights than story and character. Some themes are covered but not even close to Berserk.

Is it really good? I watched the first 2 episodes of it. It seems so slow and not great animation. Many say it is one of the best story told ever. I got hyped and this happened. What makes it so great?

try "The house in fata Morgana" it's a visual novel and it's playtime is on average 30 or so hours(depending on reading speeds). If you like berserk you will probably love it, but give it time it's a slow burner.

one piece is more focused on story than any other battle shonen, and definitely has the best worldbuilding

20th Century Boys. it doesn't have the same themes or vibe, but the story is significantly better than Berserk's. same thing with Monster

nah, it's good but not as good as people make it out to be. i think it's cuz it's an 80s ova aka it was made during a time when 'quality standard' didn't have a meaning.

Hey! Like you, I think that there are not many manga out there that can topple Berserk. However, I do have some names that you definitely will find appealing.

My recommendation is the manga Green Blood by Masasumi Kakizaki. Kakizaki, for me, is Miura’s spiritual heir in terms of artwork. The guy is beyond awesome. In terms of characters he also achieves greatness. He is amazing in making charismatic characters, with good development and appealing personalities. Kakizaki’s stories are all emotional and strike you right in the ๅฟƒ. Green Blood is more about story, with some well made fights. It is only 5 volumes, you will read it pretty quick.

After you read Green Blood, you can check his other amazing manga called Bestiarius. Bestiarius is epic as f***. And with Kakizaki’s emotional signature as well.

There's stuff like Ravages of time, Usogui, kiichi vs, The world is mine, ashita no joe and Umineko but the anitwet bros got that covered.
So If i go with a popular option it would be Vagabond but Vagabond is something that you gotta feel not everything is can be told.
There's stuff like Real, Homunculus, Eden it's an endless world and beck which are great but the themes are not like anything in berserk
and if this quistion is not limited to manga then there's Schindler's List, better call saul and devil may cry

But at the end "best story" is subjective

nothing really compares to berserk in terms of its good storytelling but i think there’s a lot of other manga out there like vinland saga or tokyo ghoul who take similar themes but tell it in a very different way

berserk is one of a kind tho

I’d have to agree. There’s some good philosophical questions and some good characters, but it’s undercut with idiotic character decisions to make others smarter, and constant exposition dumps sprinkled throughout.

There aren’t really stories that similar to berserk.

The most similar manga I’ve read that is a dark fantasy and has some of the interesting messages Berserk tries to convey as well is Claymore.

Keep in mind though, don’t expect it to be Berserk.

if u r up for stories outside animes and mangas.... then yea.... stormlight archives by Brandon Sanderson is.... it is considered the greatest in fantasy genre....and instead of just 1 it has like 3 protagonists....1 of whom has suffered too much like guts ....and the other 2 different but just as fascinating in their own ways ... it has amazing world building and a really hard magic system ....so yea...if u can 4 books of 1000- 1500 pages each.... then definitely.....

stormlight archives is "actually better" then berserk....

Haven't been able to find one yet. Although I've just recently started to get into fantasy novels more. Generally speaking outside the fantasy genre there probably isn't a story as powerful as Berserk.

The problem with manga and anime that explore similar themes to Berserk is that most of them never go into such great depth. Dark fantasy series within the anime medium for example are mostly shonen nowadays. And the only dark fantasy shonen I've found that isn't afraid to hold back is Chainsaw Man, but even so it does not come close to Berserk in terms of writing.

This isn't about pure enjoyment. Berserk has much more to offer to the reader than mindless fun. I can name at least 10 series that I've enjoyed more than Berserk too, but all of em have just been "turn your brain off" kind of fun.

It’s good, animation is definitely dated at this point but if you’re into the older style it still holds up well. Pacing overall is good and the story/world building stands out above a lot of others out there. Again keep in mind this began in the late 80s.

vagabond (berserk if it had no fantasy elements)

dr. Stone (the indomitable will of the human spirit) very anime at times, but extremely realistic and raw with its characters when it really matters

I would say you should read Land of the Lustrous, it may have one of the best worldbuilding and characters in the realm of manga (for me, dont kill me lol), the story itself is just, so carefully crafted, everything builds off of something, and all is connected, and the main theme/story at large is something one can ponder about for some time, also the main character is one of the best MCs imo

I think it slightly falls of after episode 50 but it has some fantastic stuff. The Space battles are pretty cool, the story feels epic in scope whilst still having personal moments and personally I like the animation. The characters make the story imo. I'd start with the prequel film personally.

Im sorry, but no on multiple levels. stormlight archive is a top 5 fantasy series, definitely not the best that title still goes to Tolkien and especially after book 4 not being nearly as good. Also it isn't dark fantasy like Berserk is and it is FORSURE not better than it. Brandon Sanderson does not like Dark or Grimdark fantasy and has gone on record saying this. Good suggestion for someone looking for High fantasy but not dark fantasy.
