loved your interest stacks, I always go to way back machine to check out how was the anime community or at least the MAL was like, but you made things so much easier and interesting!
Actually, that's not true. That might just be your biased against those movies thinking they're "just popular to make people cry"
Clannad has average characters, but the drama parts are way cliche and at times just forced for dramatic scenes such as the "basketball scene in the rain" and the park bench scene which wasn't enough clarity to warrant such a reaction when there were still like or 5 more episodes backing the whole hospital reality.
Where as, Silent voice had authentic kids, a realistic story about a dumb kid that bullies a girl, and the rest of the movie is him undergoing the otherside of his actions by attempting to do better. Which part of that isn't telling a good story? The movies don't automatically make people cry. They make people cry because the base of the story is real. They bullied a girl with a disability. They make up. They learn to move forward. Pancreas, though not as character developed, is a simple story about a girl that has a medical condition.
Maybe you think they're just gimmicks, but those are valid stories to respect. No supernatural twist. No hero dying. Just simple raw reality. Silent Voice teaches about forgiveness and social anxiety. Pancreas doesnt teach anything, but showcases an authentic realisim. Two movies that did drama better than just Clannad's attempt of "ghost girl story, with a flexable plot, and the message of closure." Compared to Angel beats, this ghost story is just a stretched out detour for the sake of fishing for tears. Which I'm not the only one that has addressed this issue.
I wanted to know why you gave my Pancreas review a mocking laugh reaction
but then I noticed you didnt even appreciate Silent Voice. Which throws off your entire list rating consistency if you gave Clannad a bigger score.
But in the end, I love your profile pic. So, Its all good.
Each anime commits to something. While some anime focus on telling a good vibrant simple story, showing good animations and simply entertaining people other anime delve into serious topics.
I highly rated both of the anime you mentioned because they both succeed in their commitments while being unique.
I'm not sure what exact anime I didn't like brought you here but Monster, Ergo Proxy, and Texhnolyze have lots in common. Although they aim to be serious and philosophical, I personally found them lacking in these aspects.
