It looks like another parody, much like Gakuen Handsome lolol. I think we deserve BL who has great animation and great manga series to be animated. I don't know this series personally, I'm not complaining, but here I am, checking the BL tag every now and then I eat all the crumbs that Japan greenlights, when I know they could be doing a better job choosing what to greenlight... |

"Kusomiso Technique" (the one-shot manga this is based on) was extremely popular as a meme in the early/mid 2000s, mostly based on the kind of outrageous plot and semi goofy-looking character designs (although the author of the manga may not have intended it to be a joke). On the second page, one of the two leads asks the other, "Yaranaika? (Shall we do it?)" Thus the title "Shin Yaranaika". So, "Yaranaika" is the meme that got around the internet for the last couple decades. The fact that this came out on April Fools does sort of indicate this is a joke. I'm not even sure whether or not they're serious about seeing it all the way through. But if they are, yes, it's absolutely parody, based on just how much of a joke the internet took it for over the last 20 years. Don't count on anything substantial coming out about this. The 'net has decided this title was a joke long before this trailer ever existed. |

Well, as said above, Kuso Miso Technique is very well known as a meme that has been parodied in many manga/anime before. I never thought it would actually get animated though. lol hanyuhi16 said: It looks like another parody, much like Gakuen Handsome lolol. Btw, I love BL and I agree that we deserve good BL manga being adapted into anime, but Yaranaika is not a BL manga and its idea is not to make fun of the BL demography. It is a Geikomi, gay manga made with gay men as primary target audience, mistankenly known as "Bara" in the west. Unfortunately MAL keeps Geikomi in the BL tag, which is very weird if you ask me. |

Just wanted to add a few things 1. Its definitely real, it was announced on April Fool's because of how much of a meme it is but the news articles clarified that it was real and they plan to crowdfund for it in the summer. 2. Its definitely gonna be more of a parody cuz of the memes just based off the trailer, there's already references to a few of the memes like the dancing animation. I mean freaking Cirno shows up at one point, definitely not gonna be a straight adaptation. The website also says it's gonna be all ages. 3. While I'd love for more and better BL to be made, I don't think it's fair to say that this was "greenlit" over other projects. This is being done by Maki Ito who's an independent animator so it's not like it's "taking away" resources from other anime. 4. I've brought up changing genres (specifically the erotica = yaoi, hentai = bara thing) but I'm not sure how much can actually be done about geicomi being tagged as BL |

I can't say what the original work was supposed to be, but the anime could be a parody of the original... I can't believe this legend will get an anime, wow. |

No, it isn't. I don't understand why they changed the genre, they should cut all the yaoi scenes from it. Again why even do the adaptation WITHOUT ALL THESE SCENES. |

i don't get it. It seems it will have original stuff, but the same time not. Isn't this suppose to be just a Yaoi hentai? Or they will adapt solo as a yaoi bait. |

The trailer looks horrible. I'm gonna be stupidly optimistic for once and assume that trailer was just a placeholder to generate interest from crowdfunding, and that the final product will be properly drawn and animated. |

Holy crap I can't believe this is actually real. A fitting release date April 1st, that's for sure. Decades of meme and shitposting culminating in a single OVA. Also MarzGurl said: "Kusomiso Technique" (the one-shot manga this is based on) was extremely popular as a meme in the early/mid 2000s, mostly based on the kind of outrageous plot and semi goofy-looking character designs (although the author of the manga may not have intended it to be a joke). So...is it going to be porn like the original?
It's rated 16+, make of this what you will. Here's the Amazon link for those interested. Doesn't look like it's available on any trackers yet. |

Can't believe I missed that this was subbed for a couple of months. That was a crazy ass watch. Like obviously it was gonna be a parody from the trailers but they really leaned all in to the shitpost of it all. I lost my mind when they actually pulled a nice boat to censor the sex scene. Honestly all the creativity that went into this is commendable. Also I was shocked at how accurate it actually was, dialogue was pretty much 1:1 in most parts just with censoring and changing the characters to Abe and Masaki (don't ask how I know 😶). Part of me feels bad for the original author though. Like the dude just wanted to draw his fetish porn in peace and the internet turned it into a meme. This is an official product though so I gotta assume he's fine with it being turned into this. |

Is the modern industry really so hungry for new titles that even legendary memetic one-shots can get adaptations? We live in interesting times, comrades.
@RobertBobert "modern anime industry" It's a crowdsource funded independent animation, also meme based gag anime is nothing new. |

@Kristiwazhere Not every "meme based gag anime" are based on an ancient internet meme based on an amateur one-shot. And I'm not sure why you decided to suddenly start arguing with a comment from almost a year ago. |

If I may add something to the recent discussion in this thread, regarding the essence of this anime, then while the iconic bara one-shot is of course the main element of this OVA, its story consists of adapting several other iconic stories created by the same author (Junichi Yamakawa) and mixing them together. In result, we get a new, cohesive story, but with many references that people familiar with the aforementioned other stories will surely notice immediately and without much problems. |
