What is this, IseLeve, Fruits of Evolution or some cliche power fantasy anime? Touche.
BirbSMB Jan 16, 12:35 PM
Oh dear... Solo Levelling is gonna be one of THOSE anime? I hate polished turds so much.
BirbSMB Jan 14, 3:57 PM
I'm a bit behind - mind saying their names?
BirbSMB Jan 14, 3:29 PM
Unfortunately I didn't make the team, but I did make the final cut. Thank you though ^^ There's so many garbage seasonals out there and most of them aren't even enjoyable. Yet, I choose to stomach them xD

I made it to the final cut in my country's annual bowling team trials for 2024 (this year). There's that. That aside, I'm quite a masochist. It's hard to find "so good it's bad", so I like to do it so that nobody has to do the trial and error of finding ironic masterpieces.

Nice, Metallic Rouge did look interesting to me too, I forgot that was coming up. I briefly heard about Mappa's staff too. I haven't seen JJK but I guess the animation was so good and they kept one-upping themselves but the animators were in agony trying to do all of that. Hopefully they'll get enough time to work on the Chainsaw Man movie.

Oh yeah, I totally understand how bad work can be. I feel like its unfortunately a never ending battle. My work place has been in complete shambles since last August. It wasn't good (but not horrible) for a while beforehand but this is a new level of shitstorm I've experienced and I've been there over 7.5 years. Hopefully you'll be able to find a good one though.

I'm super happy my capture turned out perfectly first try. The tape is in really good condition and there's hardly any pops and there's no buzz or other artifacts. I'm really glad I got that tape too since everyone else was sleeping on it and everyone else's listings were (and still are) way more expensive. The issue with EoE VHS is availability. Nobody wants to sell them but I'm sure the price would be way up there when someone decides to. Even if I find someone who has one but doesn't want to sell it, I'd at least just want to record the Hi-Fi audio and that's it. I think it'd be cool to get my own tape but I'd settle for borrowing to record. The EVA project is super huge and ambitious, I don't know when it'll be ready but I'll give you a heads up when it is. I'm not sure if I mentioned previously but my current main effort are the Legacy ADV English tracks. Before they reached out to me I was planning on trying to eventually fix up the Renewal ADV tracks from the new Blu-ray since they were losslessly transferred from original tapes except levels are out of whack and some areas are broken.

Thanks, happy new year to you too! Hope you're doing well too! I'd say I've been doing well outside of work. I haven't been watching as much recently mostly due to working on my audio project, I've made pretty decent headway. I've also recently acquired a Super VHS player so now I can work on preserving VHS anime content. I also got Evangelion Death and Rebirth English VHS so I'm gonna try and get its Hi-Fi audio recorded. Granted the DVD's audio wasn't as bad as what ADV did for the TV series DVDs with level compression and very audible distortion, I'm still very interested to see how it turns out. I hope I can find The End of Evangelion English VHS sometime to get that one recorded as well.

Some of the main shows I'm looking forward to are Classroom of the Elite 3 (hopefully their staff actually made it for broadcast this time instead of 90% of it being outsourced lol), Konosuba 3 (I still haven't finished Megumin prequel lol), the next part of Mushoku Tensei 2 (I wasn't that impressed with the first part though), Nijiyon 2 (God Bless) and Nijigasaki movie, Witch on the Holy Night (I don't think that's this year though), and finally Madoka Magica Walpurgis no Kaiten. Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction looks interesting too. There's a few others that look interesting to check out like Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian, Koi wa Futago de Warikirenai, Yoru no Kurage wa Oyogenai, Sasayaku You ni Koi wo Utau, Atri: My Dear Moments, Gimai Seikatsu, Seiyuu Radio no Uraomote, Shuumatsu Train Doko e Iku?, and Miru. I wish I got around to watching Jaku-Chara since s2 started, same with Sound! Euphonium 3 but I've only seen the first season so far. I still have yet to finish it but I also saw you enjoyed Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijou as well. It's a pretty fun show and I quite enjoy the humor in it.

I finally got around to finishing Bocchi the Rock today. What a treasure that show was. I definitely really feel Bocchi's reactions to everything. Zombieland Saga is one I've been wanting to check out for a long time too, I have yet to check out their music too. I feel like its both a blessing and a curse having lots of content to check out. Sometimes I think about only watching older completed shows but there's always seasonal anime I'm always interested in.
Also about different projects, someone recently made an ultimate quality encode fixing all the artifacts and cleaning up the picture for the Armitage III from the original Japan DVD. Since I bought the mushy video quality Blu-ray that came out last November which saddened me that it wasn't an actual HD restoration, I mentioned I have it if they want the lossless audio from it to use with that DVD encode since that's basically the only saving grace of that pitiful BD release but apparently they're interested in the entire thing. I don't want to seem rude but if they really want or need it, why not buy their own? I see stuff like that a lot and I'll go look it up and sure enough, a lot of times they're still available and not out of print. Unless it's too difficult to import in different countries? I dunno. Anyways, I feel like there's nothing salvageable from the BD's video. It's really badly filtered to hell with really strong haloing and blocking artifacts along with the frames not seeming correctly constructed while being progressive. That person's DVD encode looks probably as pristine as possible unless the people who own it actually restore and re-scan in HD from the original film material. Maybe Discotek can get the film scanned if the Funimation/Crunchyroll license ever expires. I already re-cut the first episode's Japanese audio which had 921 samples of extra dead space between what I assume would've been side A and side B on the Laserdisc or separate master. Same exact method as I did with those Evangelion audio tracks. Maybe I should just supply the audio track like that. Well, I'll still see what they have to say though.

Dang yeah, that's really sucky. I've had many days where I actually want to watch or do something but end up too tired or have a bad headache then I just put it off because I really want to maximize my enjoyment. Bocchi the Rock is one of the shows I initially planned to check out as soon as it came out but unfortunately didn't fit it in to my schedule. I guess I was working quite non-stop for the past three months so I suppose that factors in to less free time lol. As for this audio project, I actually did end up sharing it online. I'm not sure how frowned upon it is to mention the site even though it's public but if you know the good site *cough* nyaa *cough* (am I turning into a cat??? .si/ oh I know that means yes in Spanish so therefore I must be), but to see or view/ it, its number is 1618331. Ever since NGE was released on Netflix and with the new Blu-rays, it has a different 5.1 audio track and a remastered legacy audio track. I recut them perfectly to the nearest sample to use with the Japan Blu-rays. Well so far I've only done DEATH(true)^2 and The End of Evangelion so basically Revival of Evangelion. I only shared them as separate files but I made my own complete audio tracks to use with Disc 07 and 08. I also gave the Khara intro and Intermission tracks so if other people want it like that then they can string it together themselves lol. Also a couple years ago I had someone interested in the NGE 5.1 soundtrack which were from the 2004 DVD-Audio discs. Just in case you don't know DVD-Audio is a mostly dead format now but they used the DVD's higher capacity to store music in high resolution and multi-channel. Then in 2004 they released all five of the NGE albums as DVD-Audio with original 2.0 mix and 5.1 mix based on the 5.1 Revival of Evangelion mixes. TV series had a different 5.1 mix. I uploaded to my drive then I just let it sit for a week to let other people grab them. So yeah, I guess its thanks to me that those 5.1 tracks exist online now. Something I mentioned in the comments when someone made the public share was that I couldn't believe that literally no one else has those physical discs or those who did didn't rip them correctly because since they're in MLP format they work flawlessly when ripping with DVD-Audio Extractor. Oh well, technicalities aside, at least people can listen to them now lol. I'm actually really proud that I own those along with the original (with fixed disc) Japan BD-BOX. I also have the super limited USA Ultra Collector's Edition or whatever they called it. There was only like 5000 copies or someting, I just happened to wake up after the preorder had just went live and apparently they sold out in an hour or so, I got pretty lucky with that. The only Evangelion releases I don't have are the Japan Renewal DVDs and TV series Laserdiscs. I do have the Revival LD BOX though!

You're welcome, I'm glad to share my knowledge and experience from over the years, there's a lot to be discovered out there so I always try not to assume everybody knows all the different places to check out. And yeah, paying for hot air is a good way to put it lol. I also looked up those headphones and they look quite good also knowing they are a higher-end brand. Are you into the hi-fi audio experience as well? At least the place I live, I have yet to meet someone else who is into good audio equipment along with lossless audio. I feel like I have a pretty good setup without spending an insane amount of money. I have the first model EVGA Nu audio card, a Denon receiver that I mostly use as an amp for it but I still have my players and consoles running through it, and I have Bowers & Wilkins P7 headphones. If I ever have enough room to setup loudspeakers I have Polk Audio LS50 stereo plus matching center channel speaker. I also have LG's final smartphone, the V60 which also has a high quality dac. The previous ones I had were their V20 and V40 which also sported the hi-fi dacs.

And yeah, its been pretty frozen over here lately. Of course the other day when my vehicle needed gas it was -44F with windchill so that was very lovely. I'm glad its still starting up nice since its a brand new vehicle I got back in 2020. I suppose it's natural since you'd be used to how things are where you live but funny enough that you mention learning that we don't also have that off here in America, because often I learn about others things about elsewhere and I think wow, good ol' corporate America. I'm glad holiday rush is over now. We usually still get a decent amount for New Years and other holidays but winter is always brutal with Halloween to Thanksgiving then all the way through until Christmas.

I had a couple good days off though. I didn't get to as many different things as I hoped but I finished reworking and completing an Evangelion audio project that I started a few days beforehand and my family had Christmas meal in the afternoon like we did on Thanksgiving so I was actually able to be awake for it since I work overnight shift. I also finally got myself some NordVPN since they had a special price for Christmas.

Nice, Serial Experiments Lain and Fate are quite great! If I ever want to buy any Fate over here, its Aniplex of America which all have a premium price since they usually use the original encode of the video that was used for the Japan BDs. An exception I saw in some comments is apparently I Want To Eat Your Pancreas is only the theatrical cut without the new added scenes for some reason. I was surprised they actually released Fate/Grand Carnival over here recently so now I'm hoping they can release Carnival Phantasm over here now too. I also religiously play Fate/Grand Order.

Dang, it sounds like it's way more of a hassle and cost to import over there, definitely not as strict over here. At least for me, shipping is not too bad even though costs have increased recently I suppose to match the rest of "inflation". It was about $20 now closer to $30. I always check if multiple things I want release around the same time to order them together. I've also never had to haggle with additional import fees. I've only ever had one thing be halted and sent back then I had to pay more expensive shipping then they immediately cleared it. Back in 2020 to 2021, I didn't spend any of my government covid money and at the time I was really upset with stuff at work so I decided to import a Japanese Panasonic DP-UB9000-K so I could watch my Fafner Blu-rays in 12-bit color since they have that fancy proprietary Master Grade Video Coding. Japanese Coppelion BDs have that too along with English subtitles unlike Fafner lol. I haven't watched that yet, I only have volumes 1, 2, and 6. They seem to be out of print so that was all I could afford at the time since prices were jacked up.All of the new edition Miyazaki film BDs have MGVC as well, which I don't have any of those Japan ones.
Just in case if you're ever interested at all and if import costs aren't too bad I recommend CDJapan. Amazon Japan is good as long as its available to ship to your country. Amiami is really good for preordering figures and other goods and Solaris Japan is similar to CDJapan expect they have a larger selection of potentially harder to find products.

Man, work for me has been a non-stop shit-show. From October through November I did seven weeks of overtime, so these past couple weeks I actually have been able to rest up a little having two days off but my boss actually scheduled me overtime this week. We're closed Christmas but then he has me Monday through Saturday then if I get my typical days off the following week, I won't get to rest until maybe Tuesday or Wednesday. I mean, I want my full-time hours but goddamn, that's way more than I want in a row. I really want to take time off but I think I want to wait since February is when we have our stupid benefits enrollment that we have to manually change to non-smoker status every year otherwise they take our money. I'm thinking maybe around March 7th since that's when the final Evangelion BD releases in Japan (I preordered mine right away lol) and also Mushoku Tensei BD part 2 releases over here.
Hope it won't be too stressful for you either and that you have a good Christmas!
