How shady it is to have a lump on your head, and even worse, they separate your head from your body
I'm not a critic or anything like that but I like to give my opinion

Tomie episode - nuff said. Decent adaptation. Kind of wish Tomie was its own series rather than interspersed in these various series' although it works well enough.

Tomie's stories are great. I was amused that after experiencing such traumatic moments, the girl only worried that her photos were spoiled

G-GIRL! YOU JUST SAW A HEADLESS BODY MOVE, AND ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS YOUR RUINED PICTURES?!!

But hey! They adapted Tomie well, didn't they? The voice acting was good. The animation was decent. The music they used when the body started moving was surprisingly fitting and added creepiness to the scene. I got really scared there as I forgot what happened in the manga already. I'm hoping they would adapt Tomie as a separate series even with just 5 episodes or so.

Of course, no adaptation would surpass the manga. So it was the right choice on my end to forget about the manga and just treat the anime as if it's an original series. I'm enjoying it more than I expected.

I don’t remember very well, but I don’t think there is a origin story. Tomie has always been like that. Who knows how long she has been alive. There could be many copies of her. You can tell she was aware that the lump would grow when she asked her henchmen to cut it off and burn it.

Actually a friend of mine provided me some information about Tomie origins, it's something like a curse and it explained why her assistants in this episode ended up killing her

Can your friend point to a specific chapter/story in the manga?

Pretty much everyone around Tomie slowly goes insane and ended up killing her (particularly men). It is part of her mind control ability.

That one was animated as well. I don’t think she was considered to be ugly before the incident? And she was not bullied. She was trying to seduce someone else boyfriend in front of the girl herself or something (like she always does). She was accidentally pushed down the cliff and supposedly died (so everyone decidedly to cut her up to dispose of the body (everyone hated her because of her terrible personality).

And I think she has been immortal since before the incident. She actually woke up when the others were cutting her up. The way the whole thing developed is the same as always as well.

If it was animated in Junji Itou Collection, then I honestly didn't watch that.
I don't how authentic my friend was, I don't specifically know.
About her waking up while they chopped her, that's correct but it was due to her just not being fully dead yet, like she was heavily injured, or something.
I believe her immortality was a curse caused by her grudge against them.
Btw... this what I like about Junji Itou stories. It's up to the understanding and interpretation of the readers. This dude in pure genius.

I think it was in the extra episode of the collection (ova or something). The normal version is heavily censored (basically black screen everywhere).

I just checked the first chapter quickly. Seems like I remember it wrong. She was actually trying to seduce the teacher (married) (she had slept with him). One of the students got mad and accidentally pushed her down the cliff. The teacher suggested disposing of the body and everyone agreed.

Another thing is that Tomie didn’t give this “I hate you; I am going to curse you” vibe. She was just being a bitch and somehow she got killed and somehow she came back. Looked like she didn’t even give a shit or remember the episode at all.

Actually, the Tomie that came back might not even be the ones that grew back from the chopped pieces. It takes time for Tomie to grow back. At the end of chapter 1 (a few days after Tomie came back), one package of the meat was found on a beach, only starting to look human. Many other packages were found by the authority earlier. They didn’t even start to grow yet and they were cremated.  Certainly it depends on the grow condition, but assuming different packages grew at similar speed, the one that came back can not be from the same batch.
Different Tomies share memory to some extent, so a different Tomie might just come in to replace her. That also explained why she didn’t seem to remember much about the incident.

Actually this explains a lot
Thanks for the effort
Apparently Tomie is really just a total bitch.
What I see and understand from Tomie stories is to question who's really the evil one out there (in the story's universe)

Ah finally Tomie, but it's less effective because it's been showed already too much with the manga and previous anime, still good anyway

She wasn't deemed ugly bro, just go read first chapter, it's literally her origin, as for her supernatural abilities, much like all of junji ito's story, it won't be explained coz it's a Lovecraftian horror

Because that chapter (the painter) came a few chapters away after this chapter (the photograph) that Tomie is quite different from this Tomie, development-wise

I didn't really like the plot of this episode much. They could have done more with the camera. Tomie's presence was commanding and she always stole the MC's spotlight. I liked the ending. Kinda reminded me a bit of the earlier episode "Layers of Fear".

@tylerfreeman87 Tomie was the best episode of the series, so far. Though I can't help but agree. I wish they'd just make Tomie a thing, like they did Uzumaki. Make it a standalone series.

With that said, I'm excited to read Tomie. Though I'll have to get through Gunjou and Petshop of Horrors first.

It's cool to get more Tomie, but I do wish it got a whole series to itself instead, or a movie or something.
