Tbh the movie made me feel that yuji is not really a good protag at all. He is not bad and especially leagues above deku but the film made me care more about yuta in its limited timespan than the entire season jjk could about yuji. I honestly cannot say much about him at all. Again no hate but did anybody else feel like that?

I read that Yuta was the original protag the author made but the series didn’t get picked up until he wrote a new concept with Yuji as MC.

No I completely agree, JJK itself is ridiculously overrated. This was a cool movie though.

People like Yuta more because he had to go through a lot before becoming a powerful sorcerer. Yuji didn't had a heartbreaking past to make us feel bad about him

Yuji gets more development in the manga. I still do really like both characters though

Well to be fair, Yuta has an entire arc packed within a movie. Yuji’s arc spans over 200 chapters+. Idk if people would have the same feeling if Yuta’s arc and progression was stretched through that many chapters, but I could be wrong.

Lmao this derailed quickly. Yes partly i agree about the tragic past and decelopment aspect. But also yuji feels so far very passive if we compare for example with someone like tanjiro who most of the time feels more like someone who makes his own decisions instead of just beeing along for the ride. If we get more develpment for yuji in the next seasons im all for it tho.

I disagree ..Yuta is too generic of character like how many time we saw mc like him the too emotional Andy , i like seeing such characters getting the support character treatment where things are fair . Yuji is not that good either but heh he is somewhat acceptable .

lmao actually bringing in tanjiro for a comparison 😂😂😂
tanjiro's whole character arc is like what 2,3 episodes at max and after that he just keeps on scaling lmao
Yuji's arc would hit home hard after the shibuya incident but i feel like his character in the 1sr season was good already

tbh yuta had to go through a lot this is why standalone movies arent a fair comparison to an anime or a manga where there are multiple plotlines also to keep in chedk with mc devp and side character development yu just cant really compare them
and its not just like he had a lot in manga his arc was like what 6 ,7 chapters at max? so...

I agree that Yuuji isn't a good protagonist. Actually characters like Nanami and Gojo are far more interesting then Yuuji. Yuuji feels plain and lacking.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

Same here, so far i have always liked the protagonist more than other characters but this was the first time i liked Gojo more than itadori, reason is he doesn’t have any motive other than just helping others, so far yes other characters like gojo megumi yuta are better than itadori

I love both mcs. But it ain't fair comparing the both since Yutas arc has already concluded. While people are only seeing the beginning of yuki's development (Anime) he gets a lot more development in the manga

tbh I like both of them for different reasons. I find Yuuta compelling and intriguing and Yuuji to be warm and easy to root for. I'm glad that Yuuji is the main character because he helps balance things with a bit of humor and I like that Yuuji's story could end with a circle of living and dead friends around him when he dies. It also feels like Yuuji has a greater potential for a dramatic character development. But if Yuuta was still the protagonist, I'd still be a fan

I believe that you feel way because we haven’t gotten through yuuji’s beginning arc. He’s still learning about who he is and all this sorcerer stuff he isn’t used to it yet where as yuta we saw his entire character arc already in that movie the comparison just isn’t valid. That’s like comparing a trailer to a full fleshed out movie.

Tanjiro has the sad past story in which something bad happens to family and then he keep getting stronger and stronger it’s repetitive tbh I like Yuji Itadori more than Tanjiro. Yuta is also a good character . Both Yuta and Yuji are good characters

Yuta is a great character even in the manga but Yuji is why Jujutsu kaisen manga is peak shonen.
I see you have s1 a 9 and movie 0 an 8, not saying it has anything to do with the topic, but that's basically how Yuji is able to influence the enjoyment of the series without being all powerful. And it's very clear Yuji is the PERFECT MC for Jjk in the manga.
Pretty sure every manga reader will agree Yuji is the better mc

Well, yuta is more interesting than Yuji as of now and would be a cool MC. But then again, it would be better for him to go on his own journey and play the role of a dominant force in the future.

As for Yuji, the vessel of sukuna it would be interesting if he were to slowly improve and be a wildcard among all these monstrous sorcerers.

I still have high hopes on Yuji since he is the 2nd best modern day battle shounen protagonist after Denji maybe.

Before seeing JJK0 I expected Yuta to instantly become my favourite character (Megumi has been my favourite so far) but surprisingly enough, he didn't. I like Yuta a lot but the movie was far too short for me to have a definitive opinion on him. I really wanna see more of him and I'm excited to see him appear again after the Shibuya arc. As for Yuji, I think season 1 planted the seeds really well for a very interesting future and I'm sure he will become a much bigger deal later on in the story.

Another thing I really love is that Yuta was initially planned to be the MC of JJK but Akutami changed his mind later on but still kept Yuta in the story to appear alongside Yuji.
