The early episodes were a bit slow and it felt kinda like a generic romcom plot wise, but considering the time this manga was written, the story is actually very good. If this came out at a time when people considered shows like FLCL and evangelion to be good, then this anime would be considered a classic.

The story is actually quite nuanced and is a metaphor for people who suffer from PTSD and trauma who try to overcome that insurmountable obstacle. This isn't just some generic battle shonen. It has a story to tell and sets out to tell it.

But generic romance plot aside (by modern standards) Sami is cool and really strong and I want to see her fight super powerful biscuit aliens. The love and romance plot is overdone and the lead male who i can't be bothered to remember his name is a simp, but the lizard is cool.

This is one of those stories whose quality can be decided by if the lead male can grow a pair of balls or not by the end. I will be optimistic and say that our boy has got this. The fights are kinda cool so far so this show is good.

This show has got me to praise it twice now so it is good.

His name isn't that important. The whole story is a metaphor for his internal struggle and his mental illness. He is a vessel to tell that story.

My opinion of this anime is still the same: its only problem is the animation of the action scenes, not even the art style which is fine (except for the monsters CG). It's not a minor problem, which is why I'm rating it 5/10 at the moment, but that means it is better than about half of MAL top 100.

I agree. Hoshi no samidare would've been praised so much, but look at this. People being fooled into thinking the story is bad.
Also, the animation prior to CG monsters literally looks like a masterpiece. Because around episode 10, the CG monsters appear and wreck this anime.

imo it should at least be higher than what MAL rates it. A 6.5 would be more accurate compared to the less than 5.5 that stinky MAL users give it.

I'm sure the score will rise above 6 when it will finish airing (source: my experience with Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens and Baraou no Souretsu).

I still feel the anime is soulless and a rushjob. Such a disappointment considering it was from one of my favoritte manga.

This series would actually be a masterpiece by today's standards of it embraced it's rushed and loveless production state and acknowledged it in it's approach to humor.

The characters are somehow charming enough to carry the whole stupid story but it is no secret that it looks like ass, is very poorly directed, and it has no grasp on the concept of pacing. If it had been like "fuck it" and mocked itself on those bases, it would be actually pretty funny while still hitting those character progression marks.

The way it just unintentionally rushes through scenes like someone trying to retell the story of a show they watched once 7 years ago while trying to hold their pee in a public restroom queue is hilarious, even more so than the choppy and constantly off-model animation. I ironically love how chaotic this garbage-dump is at times, and how it feels like absolutely no one had any idea of what was going on during the making of this. The plot is already super dumb and relies heavily on absurdity (case in point: the world-ending threat is a literal giant hammer), even trying to make clever comedic quips at itself (like when the MC tries to figure out how the animal guardians would fit into the legendary beasts archetypes), but it doesn't go the full mile and I believe that is it's greatest weakness. It wants to treat itself seriously but there aren't elements to back it up in this goal, production-wise.

I will bet that if this got the Ghost Stories dub treatment from the beginning, cursing and all, it would rise to the top of many watchers' lists. After all, it is it's super low quality that still has me glued to it.

The point of adapting a manga to anime is to give the source material story one thing that the printed medium is unable to convey in full power, that is, movement and sound. This is the reason anime adaptation of manga exist in the first place, and the show laughably failed at the one thing it is supposed to do. The animation is stiff, the color choice is unappealing, the sound design sucks, the pacing is all over the place, it is unable to translate the energetic feeling that you get from the manga. The only redeeming quality of this anime is the plot, but then you got the source manga, which is miles better than the anime. A 5/10 rating is definitely earned since it was a half-baked show.

If anything, this anime only serves to drive people away from the incredible story that is Hoshi no Samidare rather than promotes it.

Of course it's good. Not great and the production values are clearly not up to par compared to modern animes, but the source material is solid enough that it puts to shame almost every shonen of the past decade. We're living is such depressing anime times anyway that even a show that would have been frowned upon ten or twenty years ago feels like a breeze of fresh air.

In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same.

Because source is good. Unfortunately animation quality and direction ruined most of it.

If it was produced in the past maybe it’d had a better production but still there’s a chance it could have rushed

Also what doesn’t helped the first cour of the anime that its director was busy with working on another anime before it so he probably relayed on episode directors more but even the experienced episodes directors wouldn’t be able to carry it alone since most of the production to outsourced to jumondo a sub studio with a really tight schedule (the second opening was produced by NAZ while the first one was by jumondo).

Or the opposite it’ll do its job for advertising the manga if no one didn’t have patience not can bear the anime’s shortcomings ( while it’s rough in some edges but it is decent if not consistent).
