I watched it about two years ago and had just finished re-watching it. Truely it fascinates me that how on earth someone is able to narrate a story this brilliantly and beautifully. Also it was one of my first watches so my opinions might be tending a bit towards personal favoritism so I would really like to get opinions of you guys to grasp up a general image of the series now that it's been out for like 7 to 8 years cause not many people seem to talk about it nowadays.

I think it’s amazing but it really isn’t modern 😭😭 the manga started in the late 80s early 90s I think and the anime has been out for 8 years which granted is a lot more modern than 80s and 90s but still, it is quite amazing tho

Manga is better though, the vibe of the manga is just so much darker and the anime changed a lot of things about the characters and the vibe overall

Truely said but the screenwriter did modified the story for us modern day audience to relate even better.for eg.the dependence on internet for seeking information.

You're right, despite of having flaws and some unsatisfactory part, this Anime is indeed a classic masterpiece. I only gave 4 Anime a 10/10 and it is one of them.

For me it was an obvious 10/10. It’s full of action and interesting characters and it explores its main theme very well. It’s nice to see that it’s getting the attention it deserves.

9/10. Information overload in the second half of the season. Thoroughly enjoyed it though. If you liked parasite I recommend giving Blue Gender a go. It's an old Anime and not popular at all, but I'm shocked at how underrated it is. Has a darker vibe to it as well.

I respect that opinion because it's a pretty uncommon one and I do also feel like this franchise didn't get enough praise in the west.
However, even though I don't wanna sound like one of those guys but I'm gonna say it anyway. You should read the manga and compare the two. They are VERY different interpretations of the same thing. I think that's why I personally couldn't come to love the anime as much. I think it truly depends on which one you consume first because it's purely an aesthetic thing in my opinion.
I recommend reading manga tho you'll probably get more out of it than I did.👍

I went down the same route you did here. I think I gave it a 6/10

Personally, I think the show was trying too hard to take itself seriously, so it just felt incredibly "edgy". The storyline felt underdeveloped/rushed, especially toward the end with the final battle between Shinichi and Gotou - the fight ended with migi basically doing the exact same thing it had done all series, protecting shin while shin himself was a passenger. I don't think there was a single well-written prevalent character in the entire series, and shin's personality felt forced and cliché. I mean he began as a wuss and a nerd basically with a phobia of bugs, parasyte hits him and BOOM, ultra-cool, stoic, cold-faced, ball of swagger who forgets basic human emotion. Granted, he gets it back, but not until after he was solidified as a self-insert character. The entire second half of the show really just felt like a mess - no cohesion at all between scenes sometimes. It was the part where the dialogue and plot/character progression should have been at its VERY best, and it just wasn't, which is a shame, because despite its flaws, the first half was a pretty good setup for the climax of the series.

I did like that there was very little plot armour (except that one girl right at the very end), and that the premise of the show was unique. I just feel it didn't live up to its potential, unfortunately. The peak of the show was the whole ordeal between the parasyte lady and her pregnancy, but it really didn't get better from there. Its always confused me how it got such a high score.

still a solid good show 8/10

"because aliens" for the reason why parasytes exists was kinda dissatisfying. also Kana is kinda stupid.

but it's exploration for what we call "human" and the moral dilemma is done SO well.

I remember being immensely captivated at first for the better portion of the first half at least, but then it began to feel as if it was losing sight of its identity and what exactly it was going for this whole time. I finished it feeling a 6 or 7 out of 10.

For those that have played Red Dead Redemption 2, you'll know that it too has a moving story to tell. But by the end, a problem was apparent for me personally, an issue that also was addressed in Dunkey's review for the game. Paraphrasing it, he essentially said that from the start there are so many moving parts, so many spinning cogs to the system, all revving up and gathering the potential to all come together into a culminated, stellar climax. But the issue is that around halfway through, new pieces to the story were still getting introduced, without addressing the ones that have already been established. With just too much to go on, it just felt like it lost sight of the truly GREAT story it could've been. It still got the main points across that it wanted to tell all this time, but the potential for it to have hit even harder was somewhat lost.

Same thing here with Parasyte. I remember a lot of moving pieces to the story ready to clash and result in an epic climax. But it seems like lots of those elements were disregarded in the end, being there merely to pad the running time. Sorry that I'm not able to elaborate by remembering specific details to the plot, but I do remember the basic idea of what I had of it all. And the idea I had of it was that it certainly had quite a groundbreaking story to tell, and while it the main portion was pulled off successfully, its overabundance of side plots which were NOT pulled off as successfully resulted in it detracting quality from the central theme of the story.

Just my thoughts though. Perhaps I could easily be proven wrong and be told that everything presented DID indeed have its purpose in elevating the story, that Chekov's Gun rule was indeed followed. And it has been a minute since I watched it, maybe upon a re-watch I could find some newfound true appreciation for it. But for now, I believe I have it sitting at a 6/10. I'm glad that you truly have found yourself a masterpiece, I just didn't really see it that way.

Mugi is one of the best characters in ALL of anime though. That I do remember alright

I don't remember what I gave it in the end, probably 7 or 8 if I was feeling generous, but it basically dropped HARD from a 10/10 at the start and in the middle to a terrible, rushed, preachy end that I'd have given a 3 out of 10 on it's own, but to account for the amazing premise and mid-way execution, I kept it in the 7+ range overall.

All the interesting plot points and developments it had set up just were ignored to have some dumb shounen style final boss fight, which was then followed up with some dumb preachy intermission where we got TOLD the moral of the story instead of just letting the actual plotline carry the meaning.

I'd say I'm amazed with what ease they managed to ruin such great build-up, but the reality is that I've seen a shitty end ruin an otherwise great series way too many times already, so this is nothing new :/

It was pretty good. The only reason I don't think it's a masterpiece is because of the convenience of Migi making more humanlike decisions later on. It seemed like a cop out to me. If they found a way to do without that, I would've rated it higher.

Yeah I guess that's a point one would have in mind that is the sudden and huge shift of migi's nature to more human like. Ahh........ I guess out of all negative opinions in this forum discussion your's is the only one I can't exactly defend to.
I think that at that moment one of them had to die and chooses himself for the sacrifice.... which, being honest seemed kinda odd which he also tops it all up with refering shinichi as his 'friend'.
(I kinda understood why he did that but the explanation I have at the moment is pretty complex)
Anyways nice analysing there actually I never really noticed this cause while all this happens everything is just so intense that I literally kept forgetting how to breathe 😅😅.

As a matter of fact, it's among the handful of anime from the last 10 years that got a 10/10 from me. I was impressed by how much it did within 26 episodes (especially in comparison to Tokyo Ghoul) and it was a highly entertaining package overall. I only need to rewatch it because it's been 7 years since I've finished it.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

Almost.

I say it's Imo by far the best thriller anime, and has some of the best character writing. but I feel like for me to give it a 10/10 it needed one more push.

if the animation was top tier instead of just good or/and if the ending tied a few more loose ends, then I would probably give it a 10/10.
