Sigh..... You got it, although I don't think you're gonna enjoy the manga at all cause,1). It's like a 25 year old series and so a lot of stuff in the updated anime adaptation (like dependence on internet for seeking information which us new generation heavily relates to) is missing.
2). Also this 'Another fan' you mentioned probably has read the manga first and because of the modifications that are done in the show to meet the needs of a modern audience he/she didn't really appreciated for some reason, although I do understand that a switch from a realistic artstyle from the 90s to a more anime esq from the 2010s can be a bit wierd I guess.
3). Moving away from all this and going to the actual theming and execution of the series; that is all exactly the same cause it's an honest adaptation which keeps all the deep exploration about the key differences between humans and monsters completely intact and just as impactful.
So for someone who didn't enjoyed the anime adaptation is probably not gonna enjoy the manga either.(because going to the core both are literally the same)
Hey but that doesn't mean that it's impossible. If it's on your reading list then just go for it bro I'll more than happy to interact once you've finished it.
Also sorry about the long argument.
Any thoughts from your side!!??
Also I saw that you have gave Devilman Crybaby a one out of ten.........so yeah.........I guess you just aren't into these type of deep themed and complicated character driven shows.(have fun with fairy tale btw)
You mention the modernisation of technology and how you think that makes it relatable. Imo that's probably one of the worst things they could've done. There's no way these parasytes would be able to run around for that long in the 2010s. We have cameras and phones literally everywhere. It throws away all realism. It's totally cool if you're willing to shut your brain off towards logic and common sense to enjoy something tho. I do that while watching shows like Fairy Tail so I understand.
The bits like I liked: The woman with the baby was a great character and her arc was excellent. Shinichi and his parasitic hand also had a good dynamic and I liked the way they represented an aspect of what being human is. It would've been nice if it ended around there.
Some of the dialogue I remember: "are you really Shinichi?!?" and the other I don't properly remember but it went along the lines of "you humans have been messing up the Earth. We'll show you what it's like to be preyed upon". It sounds so cliche and corny and there's loads of instances like that present in the show. It's been over done in the 21st century. Nothing new
The side cast is also pretty ass outside of the characters I mentioned before. For a show about human nature they sure don't feel very human. Although, as plot devices for the sake of Shinichi's development they are okay.
Okay, time to conclude this bc it looks like way too much so apologies. Basically lack of logic for the time period it's in combined with all the clichés left me feeling nothing towards it unlike the likes of Monster and FMA 2003. I mention Monster bc it's also old and works perfectly fine. I expect to enjoy it more in its original form bc it fixes a few of my issues.
Final note: I like that you mentioned Devilman Crybaby bc after watching Parasyte I was considering increasing my score for it. I think it's thematically better. I can't be bothered to rewatch to revise my opinion tho. Also thanks! Yes, I will continue to have fun with Fairy Tail. I'm watching it rn as I type this (that's actually a lie but let's pretend it's not for the sake of comedy).
Edit: wtf that's more than I expected to write. I trimmed it a bit
