THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Damn, Ren is such an intimidating woman, even compared to Akito.

The mind games between her and Shigure was also intense. This episode shows how crazy she is, maybe even more so than Akito. Props to the VA for protraying such a character. Ren seems like the type of character that trouble would seem to follow. At least Shigure is tougher than her.

Pretty serious and dramatic episode this week.

Yeah .. Ren being jealous cunt and forcing everyone to treat Akito as a dude was really fucked up think to do, all just cause she had this crazy idea in her head that she's THE only one in Akira's life lol. She literally treated her own daughter as a competition, thats so wrong on so many levels Jesus.

Craziness in the head truly runs in the family.

Kyo's life has been one hell of a tragedy after another, not to mention Akito's mom, Ren Soma. The amount of terror, even for dreams of reminders, it's such a scary thought.

It's frightening to see how much Shigure and Ren are similar in their thought processes, yet execute oh so differently. Akira (the influenced), Akito (the "special" victim), Ren (the influencer), the servants of the Soma family, all of them are twisted through and through, and the cunning Shigure is just but one of a few who can weave their way through all that manipulation.

Young Akito looking so dead-pan against his mother's wishes, she is the sole predicament to how Akito has founded her relationship within the Soma family, a bond of the make-and-break of the whole zodiac cursed circle of relationship.

Hiro is next in the bond-breaking "massacre", and leading Akito to further depression and the family to a warped belief. And Kureno can only do his best to console the god that has hung all these pent-up feelings, and bear the brunt of the pain of unwillingness.

With the way things are, it's only depression and anger all the way through. What a crazy family whose belief in ideals is unparalleled.

What in tarnation was this episode! Rollercoster throughout.

Seems like kyo was somehow involved in kyoko's death but we still don't know how and his mother also seems like a right old piece of work. Having to wrestle those thoughts alone is quite concerning, especially considering the stigma surrounding his powers.

Ren is just a piece of ****. She's just hella manipulative and possessive, not even wanting to lose to her own flesh and blood and brainwasher akito into believing she wasn't loved. The attendants weren't any better, especially that old one that gave the box.

No matter how bad her past was, Akito is probably the worst person in this anime. She made a bet with her mother out of spite and leverage her position to ruin many other lives, as though her cause was justified. And then she stabs kureno, and is he dead? The bird being dead at the end does signify his beast but I sincerely hope not.

Kyo is still blaming himself for everything bad that has happened. But damn Ren was crazy from the start, I suppose. How can you be jealous of your own child just because you would not be someone else's no. 1 choice anymore. Shigure caught up to it pretty quickly and that explains Akito's mentality of being special to everyone else out there.

Ren was madly in love with Akira, Akito's father. Her meaning of love was so intense that all of him belongs to her and not anyone else. She might be crazy there but in my opinion, there's a major role that 'elder woman' played by playing with Akito's emotions which ended up creating an even worse situation for both Akito and Ren and one of the victims that got crushed between all of this ruckus was Kureno. I hope he's okay.

Man I was having fun watching Akito suffer but then that damn bitch stabbed Kureno. This bitch is beyond redemption, truck kun should isekai her to Keyaruga's world.

Hiro's curse breaking moment was quite emotional. I'm glad he can finally embrace his sister and mother.

This episode had some great music, the series itself is always filled with great background tracks but here we had every big moment was given a great piece of music. Lots of big moments to fill with this episode since we're inching closer to endgame. Kyo still haunted by both the mother figures in his life whom he feels died as a result of him. Kyo thinking his whole existence just being to cause pain to others, that effecting his mother and Kyoko in a horrible way. The end of this episode also is leading us to a not very good time. Kyo is in a dark place after remembering his time with Kyoko and the guilt he feels.

Getting some answers into why Akito has been lashing out for all this time. Wanting to show out for Ren to show that Akito herself is number one. Her father Akira instilling in her that she was a special child but Akira still loving Ren more than Akito. We see how Ren reacted with her jealousy towards Akito for being number one in Akira heart. A twisted relationship between mother and daughter set all this tragedy into motion. This episode shows that we cannot talk about Akito wrecking up the Sohma family without including Ren portion. Recently set into motion by Shigure taking Yuki which made Ren doubt Akito could hold onto them all still which made Akito double down on her belief she could. Not knowing that Tohru coming and other things set into motion the curse breaking. As we see Hiro lose his curse, holding his baby sister for the first time. Akito is losing them, Kureno trying to backtrack Akito doesn't help things.

The long-awaited scenes I long for to get animated are finally animated.
First off Kyo having his usual nightmares but this time we as viewers can see them too. He feels heavily responsible for his mother's and Tohru's mother's death and he also dreams of Tohru possibly dying.
Ren is both a manipulative and possessive person not to mention being jealous of her own daughter, also don't forget Kureno once mentioned that she is both physically and mentally ill in the first episode of this last season. Akira was lonely so he would feel fond of anyone who notices his loneliness which is Ren. He didn't raise Akito well since he always mentions Akito as a special child making her believe that her whole life she's the god. This leaves Akito not understanding other people's common sense since no one taught her otherwise. The maids are no better at encouraging Akito to be like this, as a god figure only. The maid giving her that box lying to Akito about it which makes Akito get attached to it since she feels like that's the only way to feel like her father is still with her. Shigure sure knows how to use people.
The curse is breaking apart and this time Hiro was broken from the curse feeling all sorts of emotions. Akito's world is slowly falling apart since the curse keeps breaking. Kureno tried consoling her but this time he gets stabbed in back by Akito.
This episode was overall great, I really loved it.

Yooooo wtf

I'm guessing Akito's just gonna run around and try to kill the other Somas now.
hoping that Kureno doesn't die though, and was just starting to like him too..

Glad that we're getting some explanation behind Kyo knowing Kyoko. Wonder how he was involved with Kyoko dying.

Anyways, great episode nonetheless but they feel to short haha.

Akito is awful. Just when it was time to step into redemption arc territory she does something stupidly bad once again. Not that she deserves forgiveness but still...

I wonder what triggers the breaking of a curse and hope Kyo won't hurt Tohru with some silly words.

I hate Akito so much, I was glad to see her suffer but then she had to go stab Kureno. Even if she had her redemption arc she still doesn't deserve to be forgiven. Man, Hiro's free from the curse, curious who'll be next.

I wonder if next episode we find out how Kyo was involved with Kyoko's death, man this was yet again another great episode.

Ren and Akito are very similar. Akito clearly takes after her mother. The aggressive outbursts, physical violence and possessive nature are shared between them. It's been a very very long time since I read the manga...probably 10 years ago so a lot of the stuff that happened in this episode I can't remember. But did Hiro's curse break at this time in the manga?

What are these emotions man... Sadness, yet happiness, but to end things off with absolute anger.

First though, so sad to see Hiro cry there, obviously these bonds meant a lot to some of the Soma's, but I am so happy for Hiro that he can finally embrace his sister and mother.

Akito, well what can I even say here. I never liked her once, but this was a new low... Kureno better not be dead.. I wonder what will happen now with Akito, will she just run to other Soma's who's curse been broken? These cliffhangers...

Also really curious what the deal is with Kyo and Kyoko's death.

They did a great job of adapting the manga this week. Ren and Akito 's fight over Akira comes to a head with Akira really gone for both of them For some reason I never worried about Kureno when I read the manga
The nightmares about Kyoko and his mother show the self loathing of Kyo which will to a head when Torhu confronts him next week
The Akito and Ren part was from Chapter 115-117 They skipped over a lot of council chapters

Nice episode, and all episodes have been nice so far! I'm a little concerned since they confirmed that this season will just have 13 episodes, hope the enclosure doesn't feel rushed.

Man I was really starting to feel sorry for Akito, most of her problems are due to Ren's craziness, but then she goes there and stabs Kureno, what made me remember she also tried to kill Isuzu. Immediatly my compassion for her just got back to zero, like, wtf, there's a limit to how much it's okay to project your sadness and angry on others. Hope Kureno survives, every episode this season is tickling me to read the manga, but I will be strong and resist... I hope...

This episode was insaneee.

It's interesting watching the relationship between Ren and Akito as an adult. As a kid a lot of this didn't make complete sense to me, it was just drama, but trying to figure out what the author is trying to say with a villian like Akito is fascinating. Akito is a parallel to Tohru, even the death of their father early on in life matching up. Difference between them:

1. Their mother's ability to let go of the deceased.

2. The expectations they had for themselves. Akito was told all her life she was to be loved and a god, while it was enough for Tohru to be loved for her mom.

I like how the story isn't afraid to show how bad Akito can be. She's a victim, but victims can be cruel. Can you still forgive her? Trauma rarely shows itself as kind and soft like Tohru, but Akito? She's the ugliness trauma often creates. Considering that Akito hasn't fully let her father go, and Tohru is still heavily attached to her mom, both of their arcs have an obvious conclusion. Let go. Move on.

So as I predicted, the ball is rolling down the hill. I'm so excited for next episode !

This episode certainly knows how to make someone's emotions go round and round like they were stuck inside a washing machine.

It's worrying seeing Kyo feeling all gloomy since he's been having nightmares about Kyoko, which has left Tohru worrying about his wellbeing. =(

Honestly, the only happy thing that happened in this episode was that Hiro was the next zodiac member to break from the curse. It was really sweet moment when his mother hugged him as he cried in sadness and relief.

However, the main talking point of the episode are Akito and Ren. Shigure didn't hesitate when he talked the truth at Ren, which left her in a poor state of mind that she went as far to storm into Aktio's room while brandishing a knife. During the argument, Akito threw the box that contained "Akira", only for it to be empty. Akito then picked the knife up and was about to stab Ren, but Hiro's break from the curse stopped that from happening.

Sadly, when Kureno confronted Akito, he ended up getting stabbed instead. To rub salt in the wounds, just as Kureno collapsed from the injury, the scene changed to Arisa and a colleague looking over a dead bird by the convenience store. Talk about being brutal...

Overall, this episode was really great and it doesn't hold back with the heavy amount of drama, revelations and tension.

But holy fuck, shit really went down this episode. Ren lost it, Akito is losing one Zodiac after another now and stabbing Kureno won't make it better. Reality TV families seem wholesome compared to this one.

I'm tired of seeing Akito in this desperate state, hope our girl Tohru is going to free her soon.

Wow that was crazy, but enjoyable. I guess the last half of last weeks episode was Kyo’s dream? I already know this is about to be a rollercoaster as far as Kyo, his past and his and Tohru’s relationship.

I hope Kureno doesn’t die but he was a bit dumb for staying with her after everything. I get having pity for Akito but there is only so much people can do for someone that far gone. I also have pity for Akito. The whole Soma thing is bad but if Akito had of treated the zodiacs with more love and care things would have turned out very differently.

When the bond was cut with Hiro that was such a bittersweet scene.

Holy fuck. Man this gets better than I thought so. Kyo is still going through these scenes of guilt in his mind, which will explained deeper in next week’s episode. The whole conversation between Shigure and Ren got me feeling pump up for Shigure this time. GO OFF SHIGURE SAVAGE THAT WOMEN. The whole backstory provides the understanding we need for Akito’s doings as well as why she is portrayed like this. As how much I hate Akito, I freaking like her as a character. It doesn’t make the story boring at all and how she is parallel to Tohru in many different ways. This actually pretty works really well with the last episode’s connection.

Oh man, get ready for next week. It’s an emotion rollercoaster (;´༎ຶٹ༎ຶ`)

God, Kureno really does remind me of my past-self (or a little bit of present-me) I hope he is feeling better TwT Akito had one bloody chance and she threw it away.

But honestly, I have been in Kureno's shoes, the emotional manipulation ain't a funny thing. And if people think he is stupid for still sticking around Akito, then they can call me stupid for sticking around a classmate who used my feelings for their own advantage in the past.

Another episode cramming 3-4 chapters together. Part of Chapter 93, as well as Chapters 115, 117, and 118 were adapted in this episode covering developments with Akito. Many scenes in this episode got shortened, removed, or changed due to the number of chapters combined together into this episode. Here were the changes I noticed within this episode:

-Because the timeline of Chapter 93’s scene is different, this led to a few changes for what is adapted from it:

  • In the scene where Tohru’s making hamburgers with Momiji and Yuki, the former was originally depicted shorter due to the different points of time this scene’s adapted between the anime and manga.
  • Instead of coming down to see the three like in the manga, Kyo is shown sulking in his room reflecting on his nightmare and the trauma he experienced from the ending of the prior episode.
  • Kyo’s thoughts on his situation replace those of Akito wondering why his mother has free reign to go as she pleases around the Sohma estate when the scene transitions to Ren grabbing onto Shigure’s robe.

-The anime skipped scenes showing a pair of Sohma maids complaining about Ren being around the estate, with Kureno overhearing this and arriving to Akito who shows him a box she claims contains Akira’s spirit. Part of this scene was shown in Episode 4 of this season of the anime.
-Ren and Shigure’s conversation was shortened for the anime, removing some dialogue.
-Originally in the manga, the flashbacks exploring how Ren and Akira came together were told through third-person narration instead of Ren’s perspective. Because of the change in narrative perspective while exploring this story element, this led to some scenes with the flashback being removed from the anime that include the narration describing Akira’s fragile beauty, the Sohmas discussing about arranging a suitable marriage partner for Akira to have an heir for head of the clan, Ren becoming furious when noticing Akito getting more attention from Akira, and Kureno in the present holding onto the box Akito gave him.
-The anime removed scenes from Shigure’s house where Tohru and Kyo noticed the rainfall coming down, with the former thinking she needs to gather courage with what she has to do.
-Some of the narration during Akito’s reflection of where things went wrong with her “bond” with the Sohma curse got removed from the anime.
-As Akito was about to stab Ren, Kureno and the Sohma maids yelled her name out in a panic in the manga. In addition, the red rope breaking meant to symbolize Hiro’s freedom from the Sohma curse is an addition for the anime.
-Kureno and Akito’s conversation in the rain was shortened for the anime with some dialogue being removed.
-The anime removed a scene showing Akito fleeing through a forest as she laments over how Kureno treated her and where the other cursed Sohma would go without her, before thinking about Tohru.
