Someone told me that the original game is a magical girl RPG, so it'll get the magic tag as well as the school tag.
I have also heard that there are some yuri undertones in the game, so this new anime might get the shoujo ai tag.

Wait what a Blue Reflection anime lol (and still no Atelier Ryza or Shallie)? I didn't finish the game but the genre is magical girl with some mystery and psychological themes. It's like a more tame Madoka but that concept doesn't mean it's of the same quality. Not that it's a bad game it's definitely better than the average modern JRPG but not by a long shot. It's the main reason why it getting an adaptation is so confusing to me, it's owned by Koei Tecmo and developed by Gust who made the Atelier games so you'd figure Atelier Ryza, a game that was moderately successful and in part saved the Atelier franchise from dying altogether in the west to receive an adaptation of a game that's a few years old now.

Again take what I say with a grain of salt cause I didn't finish it (mainly due to receiving a new Atelier game at the time and pushing it aside) but the yuri undertones are mostly present in the supporting or tertiary characters, there's very little of it with the main characters.

Is that weird? This is just another one of their best games and probably the one most suited for an anime.

Why have only one successful franchise when you can attempt to get 2? Blue Reflection more than deserves a second chance and Ryza is already doing great, so this is a win.

Eh, Blue Reflection is a lot better than Madoka. Blue Reflection has heart and purpose, rather than just edgy memes. But either way, Madoka is a deconstuction of this genre, while Blue Reflection is actually a part of it. They're not very comparable, so this is a really silly comparison.

Edit: Just to confirm more for the TC what Blue Reflection's genre is: it's slice of life magical girl, potentially with some drama mixed in. The vibe/tone it gives off is something similar to Liz & the Blue Bird, if that helps at all. There was no main focus on a yuri type relationship in the game, but it's possible that could change in this anime.

I dunno, gonna have to wait for when it airs but I can't really see Blue Reflection doing very well outside its already niche fanbase and a small boost in sales. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that it at the very least got an adaptation cause it's a Gust JRPG getting one at all, I just would've preferred an Atelier game like Ryza or Shallie given that the end of Escha & Logy hinted at doing that eventually.

And it definitely can be compared to Madoka, the plot of Madoka's about magical girls trying to get strong enough to eventually stop Walpurgisnacht and Blue Reflection does something very similar to that albeit in story segments. The main characters all become magical girls willingly for personal reasons rather than because of destiny or random chance, they enter separate dimensions in order to save a person/fight a witch. There are other smaller details that cross over as well.

Blue Reflection is clearly inspired by Madoka, doesn't mean they're exactly the same but when I first played it I picked up on the similarities pretty quickly. And for the record Madoka's a lot more than "just edgy memes."

After all this time I don't think Shallie will ever be animated.
The Mysterious sub-series passed by so it's out by now so I think that it's Ryza the sub-series that will eventually receive a TV animation.

Yeah I know but seeing a Gust anime at all is surreal in itself, for me at least. If it was going to happen it felt right that Shallie would finally get that follow-up even if it's been so long and is one of the less favoured Atelier games. Probably the reason it never happened actually, it's definitely the least popular Dusk game. Ideally I really wanted to see a Sophie anime when it came out seeing that it did well with sales but given how inconsistent Gust anime releases seem to be I'm willing to accept any of their games that I've played like a Blue Reflection anime.

I agree with you.
Personally I would've really liked a Firis anime but well, I'll also take whatever Gust adaptation is made.

The original game had some yuri subtext, which is to be expected given that this is an all-female game about the power of female friendship, but that alone is not enough for any tags. Otherwise, most modern shonen would have "shonen ai" given the Jump Bishonen Syndrome.

The anime will most likely be positioned as an original project, though, but as stated, the original franchise did not have yuri as an important or prominent element. So if the anime decides to add it in any way, it will be mostly original stuff.

@Atelier_Weiss I mean there are subhints about Yuzu and Lime to be romantically interested in Hinako and these grow until the final moments of the game.

I do not think Blue Reflection to be similar to Madoka. The Reflector only solves emotional instable persons from their own conflicts.
