So I heard like several times that this might be the last work he would be doing as a story writer? I'm not sure but there are also some sources as well which I couldn't remember to mention here, that are saying this isn't his last work or so. So here, I want to know people's opinions of this. Unnecessary but worth discussing, do you think this will be his last work?
Rants and possibly reviewing shows I have watched.

No, That's it, That's the answer. Almost no chance that this is his last work. He's only 45

it's kinda bad, so it should be. I'll check what else he has worked on, maybe I'll find something worthwhile.

I hope not. His works are really precious and unique to me. Nobody has been able to replicate his style of stories.

You won't find anything worthwhile with this attitude lol. But if you're at it I recommend Clannad. It's arguably his best work.

given the setting I expected the complete opposite of what I got.
melancholy and bittersweet things. got a generic sol that reminds me of haruhi, with an mc who wants to score but can't.
I do plan to get around clannad though.

Can you please tell us what these sources are? This is the first time that I've heard of this.
Anyway, as I'm sure you can tell from my forum signature and that one spot in my Profile Favorites, I kinda hope this rumor isn't true. Jun Maeda's comedy may be kinda hit and miss sometimes, but he sure has some great ideas for tragic stories (it must be from that psychology major he got). I just wish studios like P.A. Works put more faith into him so that he could be allowed to produce a story that's more than 13 episodes... you'd think that a studio would warrant more budget for the guy behind one of the more well-known anime from the last decade, but I guess not.

i think this is all a plan to subvert opinions, as things stand. As we’re clearly being hinted towards a tragic ending and the melancholy and bittersweet that you want. Got to be patient. Realize the artistic vision that goes into these works lol

Well to be honest thats pretty difficult to answer, Im sure he is going to do OST for Key works and other media till the end. But for the stories I dont't know. Key has posted an image https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Ej4NFt6UYAAj8v1?format=jpg&name=large with their works being the kinetic novel the 3 new short visual novels that are already announced. I dont really know whats media mix but i think its another kinetic novel. At the moment none of this new projects have Jun maeda as a story writer, but there's going to be tons of new projects from key in the future so its not strange if any of them is written by Maeda.

If you want something with faster tempo you have kanon 2006 and air which are the previous works from key (and are written by Maeda). They still start with slice of life since its the basics of their stories style.

Oooooh, thanks for sharing this. Still waiting for Reflection Blue to come westward and for Heaven Burns Red to even come out. Shame that the latter was delayed.

I wonder if the media mix includes a VN and anime? It could be a variety of things.

Prob visual novel or a game, key hasnt done any original anime with other studio than P.A Works so the possibilities are low.

Also my guess on Reflection blue is that is going to be full translated in one month or so, problem is about RB old content, that add new material to the other routes. I dont know if they are going to update a patch for everything together or separately.

You people are acting like Clannad wasn't generic SOL for a good chunk of the show. Ep 5 definitely showed the story going in a deeper direction....just give it time. If there's no setup then u won't care when things actually happen.

I don't know anything about his last writing but if he stops making music, i'll get deeply depressed. Jun Maeda is the only composer in Japan who gives me a whole range of emotions. No other person can match him halfway. I hope to follow his music until the end of my days. His resignation from the musical world can be compared to throwing a national gem on the garbage can.

This isn't even remotely close to Clannad AS lol. Might be a bit unfair at this point but still.

It's good, but not great enough to make up for

Tower of God
The God of High School
Gibiate

And only God knows what will await us next season.

Generic SoL? What it even means? Not to mention that "generic" =/= bad. Something generic has no good/bad connotation at all.

It's not bad, it was just normal highschool shenanigans like you see in every Slice-of-life....bot really noteworthy. It took time for the story to pickup.

I heard stuff like Maeda saying Angel beat was his last work because he didn't have any idea anymore and kept using sick girls as a heroine.

Then we got charlotte. Now we got this. At this point I don't know, maybe if he get some inspiration he'll get a work out. I just wish he'd actually work on the angel beat VN instead.

For me it's more I don't think his work is suited for 13 episodes. He can cram good content in and make impact shows in that time. But I think Maeda needs around 24 episode to make his shows "GREAT" Clannad/little busters quality. AIR was one good short work for me same with angel beats. But I feel his 13 eps lack the punch you really want. Charlotte hade great buildup but then lacked/rushed in the end. This also have the classic slow maeda buildup but then come like a pseed train in the end. By using this classic slow buildup works if you have more time with a character. Then you fell in love with them slowly.

He'll probably go back to writing VNs after this, which is good because his style works much better in VN format. Hopefully he can go back to the Angel Beats VN and make the remaining chapters, since that project was put on hold or silently canceled because of the awful timing of his heart condition getting worse, the first part sold very well and Angel Beats is still a very popular series, it would be kind of dumb not to capitalize on that.

Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? Well, if that's what your intent is; to tempt me into throwing hands with someone as lowly and insignificant as you, then i may grant your wish provided you articulate yourself a bit better when trying to spite a person of my wavelength.

Let's hope so. He's been on a steady decline ever since Little Busters and this show here is his absolute rock bottom. There's no need for him to spit on his legacy any further. Just retire as a writer and continue being a composer.

Higurashi Gou is the worst anime in existence.
