I've watched a good few episodes of this show, and I like it. It's nothing new, it's just another mech anime, but it does not deserve a 5.8 on here! Why is the score so low? So, I wanna know why people that dislike the show, dislike the show! Was it bored? Was it annoying? I just wanna know why others don't like it that much. So, to all the people that have watched this show and didn't like it, why didn't you like the show?

I gave it a fairly low score because it felt aimless, as if the story exists for the sole purpose of tying together all the references. I have similar musical tastes to the writers (first time I've seen a BMX Bandits/Teenage Fanclub reference anywhere) but you're going to need a lot more than "Look guys, I know bands!" for a decent story - it feels like an idea I'd cook up in high school.

Also somebody pointed out that the score is pretty flat for a music anime and I have to agree. FLCL had The Pillows, this is just the usual shonen anime incidental stuff, which is disappointing when you're dealing with something centered around alt/indie/Brit-rock. As much as I love RieRi, this was a missed opportunity to feature upcoming and classic Japanese or UK bands for the EDs.

I'll be honest with you I should love this show, but it just feels like it lacks a soul if I had to be particular about it, I could barely make it through an episode it's not like I found it bad it's just that I found it basic, not in concept or story but just in heart, I felt nothing watching it. Nothing. It didn't make me come back and watch it or even want to, I felt no interest in where the story might go. Which just made me feel empty after one episode.

also on the topic of a show not deserving a rating, the rating system isn't in any way objective it's more of a global opinion rating, and in my opinion this show is just ok nothing more..

It feels kind of empty, the first episode had me interested, but then the second kind of fell flat for me.

I thought the third was pretty good, but that's also when I started to find Echo super annoying. After three episodes, the world, despite what had been established, felt empty.

They spent time establishing the plot whereas I think they should've spent more time on the world, and by the end of episode 3, the characters were just told to go do the plot.

I kind of liked it when I watched it, but when I wasn't watching it, I just feel like watching it. It was a situation where I wanted to like it, but something was just always off.

Yes, it's boring and annoying. It's way worse than what I consider to be average so I'm giving it a score of worse than 5. That's how you use the 10 point scale properly anyway. 5 is the average, not 7 or 8.

Because it's MAL and people tend to overrate shows by a vast margin.

I just don't like how the story throws so many names and concepts at me and expects me to make sense of them without the proper context. I think the show's biggest weakness is that it tries to maintain balance between fast-paced mecha action and mystery box storytelling, but it comes off as pretentious and confusing.

Honestly, I agree. To me, it’s not so bad that it deserves the score it got, but those are some problems.

I gave this show a 5 so far because to me it's average (at best) and the MAL rating drop-down list literally says "(5) Average".

I don't understand it exactly. I mean MAPPA had lots of adaptions with boring plot (Dororo, Banana Fish 2nd half boring) that even managed 8.xx. Must have been because of the good art/animation.

Now I don't know much about animation ... maybe it is a lot worse here?

From the plot it is bad yeah ... but not that much worse than for example Dororo had been. I'd score it 1 lower. I would have expected something between 6.8 and 7.2.

(Personally for me it is 6 while I gave 7 to Dororo.)

I kinda understand it, it didn't quite catch me in the first few episodes as well. It all felt aimless, directionless (I am not really a music guy myself, I didn't catch much of the references).
But the show kept getting better, I really liked ep 4 where they introduced Nir's character, hoped we will see her again. So IMO the first half was kinda lukewarm, it wasn't too bad but wasn't really anything special as well. But from episode 7 where things are starting to make sense, I would say it is turning out to be a really great show.

Idea or Concept was Great but Poor Execution...

Storytelling was also bad...
Didn't make me want to care about the characters...

Honestly i think MAPPA are probably regret doing this shitty Anime

Idk man, I turned it off after about 10 minutes because I just was not engaged at all.

It's nice you enjoyed it. It's kinda sad when the majority of people dislike something you like so I do sympathize. :(

It was the worst show I watched in 2020, and I watched a lot of shows.

It seems like someone went into a pitch meeting wanting to make a show about music festivals, and then the person was told "no, let's make a mecha show instead, people like mecha shows, but it's okay if you want to put in a bunch of music references that don't really make any sense or have any relevance to the plot, as long as you have mecha, it will be fine."

The plot, if there even was a plot, was nonsense. It fell into the trap of, let's be weird and obscure, just for the sake of being weird and obscure. Actually, it just makes me lament wasting MAPPA on a show like this.

Big budgets and decent animation could never save this show, and they never will save a show with a horrible story.

I dropped after episode 4. To me it felt like it left too much unexplained, and maybe that isn't so bad in all cases, but as some other people mentioned it really lacked drive and soul. It felt like the author had some dear OC's and just shoved them all into a half-built story. I personally really loved the main character Echo but I just could not understand any of the character's motivations so it made it impossible for me to really care about what they did or what happened to them. I just kept asking questions the episodes refused to answer.

I initially enjoyed all the references but then I realized that the actual story and ost was really lacking as you say. A music driven mecha series with that eureka seven vibe and style mixed with a Brit Rock soundtrack should've been one of my favourite ever series and yet I gave it a 5/10. Such a missed oppurtunity.
