The official website for Bibury Animation Studios' currently-airing Azur Lane TV anime announced on Wednesday that the broadcast of episodes 11 and 12 will delayed to improve the animation quality. The episodes will premiere next year on March 13 and March 20, respectively.

A rebroadcast of the series, which will contain the higher quality animation, will air on Tokyo MX, Sun TV, KBS Kyoto, and BS11 on January 3.

Azur Lane, directed by Motoki Tanaka, is based on Shanghai Manjuu and Xiamen Yongshi's smartphone game that launched in May 2017. The anime began airing on October 3, with a simulcast by Funimation. The series will have a total of 12 episodes and episode ten will premiere on December 12.

Curious. I thought the animation so far was at least adequate.

im sure they do not need 3 months to improve the animation quality its just that the TV timeslot that they are using is gonna be occupied by other future TV shows so hence the long delay like this

They really want to stand out given that Fate is the one dominating the market so far. If they are able to deliver better quality but it will take time, I can wait. Better than getting a product rushed and messing up the reputation of the franchise.

At least that's March 2020, it could have been March 2021.

They better provide longer and memorable episodes. I guess I'll still watch the so-called higher quality episodes in January but this news really annoys me. You can't cut a story at episode 10, that is nasty.

Wow. That's... Really far away. Are there any other instances of an anime being delayed THIS much?

Lol, wth is wrong with this season? The season of delays? Shinchou Yuusha 2 times, Hero Academia, Oresuki, Rifle Is Beautiful, Kandagawa Jet Girls and now Azur Lane took the cake of above all.

So episode 10 this week will be last broadcast, huh? This is Marchen Madchen all over again.

Märchen Mädchen, the last two episodes were suspended and later included in the DVD/Blue-Ray Volume a year later!

Anyways, this is a really shocking decision to me. Animation quality even during the worst moments were pretty fine I reckon but I suppose some of the fans just couldn’t take it.

Well, here’s to hoping Bibury Animation Studios will do the goods in this retry. I’m looking forward to the final two episodes.

I was kinda worried that this was going to happen. While some episodes looked really good, there was some that have been pretty underwhelming in terms of animation quality.

I think the last show that I watched where it got hit by a delay longer than a few months in near similar circumstances, correct me if I'm wrong, was God Eater back in 2015, where the last four episodes was delayed all the way into March 2016.

Either way, I hope Bibury Animation Studios will do better with their improvements. Despite their issues with Azur Lane, I have been enjoying it. =)

Didn’t this kind of shit happen with Regalia Sacred Stars, too?

Azur Lane's situation is more comparable with Girls und Panzer which aired on October 2012 and its last 2 episodes were delayed to March 2013 due to production delays. Though GuP was much more consistent in its story and animation and its last 2 episodes were worth the wait. Not sure about Azur Lane's last 2 episodes.

So does this mean this anime will technically be a winter 2020 anime? how is MAL gonna handle classifying it now?

God Eater. I can’t remember well, but I think that last three episode were delayed for something like 6 months for same reasons. It was very worth waiting for that time, the last three episodes were incredible

This is a really long delay, but I'm not surprised since episodes four, five, and six had atrocious animation. I'm not exaggerating when I say the fight scenes were nearly PowerPoint-level and some of the character models looked like doodles. Episode seven was a great return to form, though keeping this quality is probably not sustainable for the budget.

I heard from somewhere that this was being animated by one person? That's pretty yikes if so.

Wow, that's an insane amount of time for a delay. The recaps and delays in this season have been absolutely ridiculous.
Help the industry and buy Blu-rays and DVD's.

Not exactly, though episode 4 did have a single key animator. Still a yikes.

It is not a great loss, if there were no jet girls this would be the worst season show, I try to like this anime, but it was too bad as I said before, he makes the same anime mistakes as toji no miko and kancolle the whole story and characters are insubstantial, the development of scenes is bad the story by chapters takes a few minutes, usually they are dedicated more to the fanservice, when they explain something of the story to the next chapter they start by skipping what happened between the previous one and the current chapter which causes the story to lose the thread and only become boring and it really doesn't matter, the designs the action is fine, but it has no purpose at least one basic shounen can draw attention with the classic formula of facing increasingly stronger enemies, but here you feel that everything that happens does not lead to anything.

As I postpone watching anime till they're fully aired.. And was waiting for Azur Lane.. Not sure, if I should watch anime when episode 10 is aired, and then 2 others.. Or wait till everything comes out.. Hm.. Well, maybe I can consider these 2 others as OVA, and watch after 10th episode..

Not always. Granbelm IIRC had an episode with 1 or 2 key animiators and it was probably one of the best animated scenes of the year. Big difference is GRANBELM was finished before it aired a single episode. Properly scheduled production and what not....

It was 12, and Nakanishi is a veteran and can pretty much run an entire project himself. Not sure what's going on with Bibury though.

It was episode 12, only, Kazuya Nakanishi. Anyway, Bibury seems to have taken the worst from 8bit and that's it.

Hopefully when the anime is getting a rerun in Japan that they're using the Blu-ray version which seems to have fixed some of these animation problems.

you didn't read the article that closely did you? starting Jan 3, 2020 the 'new and improved episodes' will be re-broadcast. I counted it out, if ep1 shows up that FRIDAY Jan 3, 2020 that's exactly one episode every Friday till ep12 broadcasts on FRIDAY Mar 20, 2020.

has anybody seen Funimation's response to this delay as well as the 'rebroadcast of newly improved episodes' starting on January 3rd? the site I watch anime on hasn't updated AzurLane's dub page this week so I'm guessing Funimation is putting the ENTIRE project on hold? will it be until they get the 'newly improved episodes' masters and Funi can re-re broadcast dubs with the higher vid quality? if big edits happen in Japan will Funi have to remake all their dub tracks? I haven't looked online myself, so if anybody's got a link etc. I'd sure appreciate it. :)

They can fix the animation quality all they want, but its still not gonna save the disastrous plot and the miserably written characters. This anime will become irrelevant anyways months from now... I hope a better studio picks up azur lane and gives it a fair adaptation treatment

Anyone know if it's gonna be released separately or are the episodes just going to update on 9anime/Anime Tube Unlimited?

it all depends on the 'uploader site', I use KissAnime dot ru. they updated 'What the Hell are You Doing Here Sensei!?' recently with DVD/BR files produced after the disks were released. they just put the 'uncensored disk' episodes up with "uncen" written in the file titles and they ALSO left the 'cen' titles alone and didn't change their filenames or delete em either.

KA is also inconsistent. if a show is 'old' and they get the entire season's worth of files at once, they'll include the OVAs 'extra episodes' etc. on a single page. like if an older show gets a BluRay updated printing etc. but if a show is 'new' like 'WhatTheHellSensei' is, the OVA 'unaired episode' that was released alongside a manga issue BUT on the same day as the BR/DVD boxed set... that OVA episode got it's own PAGE and wasn't listed on the same page as the previous and new files.

I'm guessing a lot of uploader sites will have to watch the 'old' file and compare it to the 'new file' and decide for themselves how to treat 'AzurLane'. shrug. :)
