Ayanami...a prisoner of war. Honestly, her situation isn't bad at all though.

On the other hand, I actually feel bad for Enterprise. She just can't get over the recent events and I can't blame her. Pretty light episode after all the drama and battles.

Finally Kawakaze was introduced, she is the best ship in my opinion.

Also Ark Royal appearing first before Ayanami is a bit funny.
In case you didn't notice when ever Ark Royal is around you should keep your destroyers inside since she is dangerous for them.
It was a relaxing episode tho.

Good episode!

Ayanami is prisoner of war, and was nice to see Laffey and Javelin assigned to supporting Ayanami, and everyone is treating her good!

Seems Kaga will be doing bad things next episode!

Nagato is starting to doubt about Akagi and Kaga's plans, it was nice to see Kawakaze!

Was nice to see LAffey, Javelin, Unicorn and Ayanami hanging out together, and the ending scene was heartwarimng, repeating the same words like their first episode meet!

Ayanami is being treated warmly, Azur is a kind empire. I liked her interaction with the cute "little beavers", but above all, I like the scene with Enterprise. Enterprise and Ayanami would've made a great combo, but I still love the Enterprise x Belfast.

The Sakura empire higher ups are not that concerned with the absence of Ayanami or even Akagi. I guess their priority now is the Orochi project, what a heartless empire.

Next episode should be great, as this one was very calm and cute.

Relaxing episode after war ? Nice idea. More ships appeared. But, that also count Ark Royal which is........... FBI, please capture this bastard.

Ark Royal is sexy hot but she is a pedophile lolicon lol

i need more screen time for Hornet though

Enterprise and Ayanami do not want to fight anymore so just fight for self-defense or to protect their love ones against the real enemy the Sirens then

Funny how when I first heard this was getting an anime I hoped it wouldn't be a slice of life series, but now that I've seen how bad the "serious" plot is, this was actually one of the better episodes.

This episode was very chill and relaxing. Definitely one of the betters one so far. =)

Ayanami might technically be a prisoner of war, but everyone at Azur Lane made sure that she was fully welcomed and along with Laffey, Javelin and Unicorn, the four girls had a fun time hanging out as friends.

Ark Royal was one character that surprised me a bit. She was keeping an eye on Ayanami and looked ever so serious and cool. However, she did show her rather funny lolicon side as she got a nosebleed from seeing Ayanami and friends having fun and when one of the cooks injured her finger, Ark tried to lick it all better, but she got a deserved headbutt that knocked her out instead. XD

The scene between Ayanami and Enterprise and how both of them same similar opinions about how they don't like fighting was also pretty nice and important. It also shows that Enterprise has grown a bit as a character as I wouldn't expect her to do something like this at the start of this series.

I doubt there'll many slice-of-life scenes like this from now on, since the plot of the story still needs to be dealt with. Either way, I hope the last three episodes can give the slight mess of the main plot a somewhat good ending. =)

Finally a great episode without boring action! The only good kind of action is lesbian kissing action!!,,YEES!!

So glad to see that Ayanami was well taken care of!! I want my girls to be nice and all the lesbian shall unite to take care of the bigger threat together!!

Now there are a million waifus and even if i consider them ALL to be mine!! I forget their name all the time =P Really liked the lesbian who got nose blood to see my girls playing around and then she tried to suck the other girls finger!!!,,YEEEES!! Good job Honey! whatever your name is!!!

Most importantly my main waifu Unicorn was back after 2 whole weeks of absence! Have some fun with her girlfriends then a slumber party and sharing the bed with Javelin!! Aww Sweetheart!! So glad to see you having a good time with your girlfriends!!

A fun episode with delicious Yuri,, This stupid ass anime had 6/10 now it have 8/10 ,,Anime I still consider you being a dumb ass!! But at least you can do something right!!

You get CGDCS everywhere all the time and this exact thing has already been done in Kancolle anyway. Arent you tired of that crap? Suggesting Azur Lane should have been 12 eps of this ep is absurd. 2/12 eps of this is just enough.

I much prefer the previous ep to this, not because I disliked this one, but it was original and creative. We dont need billion one-trait waifu fake circus slideshow shows. Why must every show conform to the lowest viewer possible - how about we let artists do their thing and show them some appreciation huh?

If you people want more eps like this, here is an idea: browse danbooru for azur_lane. It has the same animation, but more frames and more juices. And you can filter out the waifus you dont care about.

Do you even play Azur Lane? Most of teh game is cute ships doing cute ship stuff with a little fighting here and there, why would you not do that in teh anime. Now it's getting bad reviews everywhere because of all the Emo Enty and usless starter stuff.

Most of the eps should be Cute girls with maybe 5 mintues of each dealing with the sirens, which is how its handled in the games because they really only appear duing events

Not a bad episode. The animation was way better than the previous ones.
I guess when it comes to slice-of-life stuff, the animators can do a really good job at it.

It's a pretty relaxing episode though as we get to see what Azur Lane's HQ looks like. The devs did well at implementing things from the game.

Great episode as always, was very adorable and also heartwarming in it's own way.

Ayanami realizing that Azur Lane is just as kind and full of warmth as the Sakura Empire. So then why do we fight? :(

Was nice seeing all the Azur Lane ships getting a little screentime.

The scene with Yukikaze, Zuikaku, Yuudachi and Shigure was funny.

Kawakaze!!! Nimi!!! Finally some screentime for the best destroyers. Eugen being a tease as always, love her too. Though, the Ironbloods are just chilling out and watching Sakura Empire and Azur Lane go out. Bismarck when? She's even in the OP.

Really liked the interaction between Enterprise and Ayanami.
The ED is just beautiful, every time I listen to it, I like it more.

A very warm and welcoming episode, I am pleased to see how in the end Javelin, Unicorn, Laffey and Ayanami become closer and their friendship develops.

It was nice of Hornet and Cleveland to give that "punishment" to Javelin and Laffey, even the most serious girls have a weak and adorable side.
I really liked Ayanami's guardian at the beginning of the episode, Ark Royal is a very elegant lady and she is incredibly hot, but each woman has a dark side and to my surprise she is a lolicon, everything makes sense now, she was never watching the girls, she was having a visual feast with all those innocent lolis, I can't imagine what this woman would do if she were in the Sakura empire where there is more lolis population.
The meeting of Akashi and Ayanami was very funny, but it also meant that Ayanami knew the truth behind the suspicious activities of Akagi and Kaga

I felt so bad for Ayanami's friends in the Sakura empire, but it shattered me to see the beautiful Zuikaku cry for not being able to fulfill her duty and also for not being able to take Ayanami with her.
The conversation that Shoukaku had with the main ship Nagato and Mutsu does not seem anything less, apparently Kaga continues to press to continue with the plan, but Shoukaku made them understand that moving forward is somewhat imprudent.

The Iron Blood ship girls seemed very relaxed even though their allies look very agitated, even Prinz Eugen is pleased to bother lolis, but I know she will end up asking for reinforcements from her companions.

I laughed a lot to see how the Royal Navy senior officers played golf while discussing their concern about the situation with the Sirens, as for the state of health of Enterprise, the outfit of Queen-chan was so cute.
I am pleased to see the latent concern for the mental health of Enterprise, to see how Vestal shows her concern, as well as how Belfast and Illustrious realize that Enterprise is slowly changing and she becomes more fragile in a way.

The girls' play date was very adorable, in addition to the festive landscape, full of girls laughing and having fun, my favorite parts were the reading of the tarot with Erebus and Terror-chan and the fight of the pancakes between Ayanami and Laffey, especially when Javelin tells them about manners and she has her whole mouth with cream and in the background, we see Ark Royal in the heaven of the lolis.

The meeting of Enterprise and Ayanami made things clearer and I see that Enterprise shares a lot with the problems Ayanami goes through, but I still admit that I laughed at how Enterprise broke the ice with that little joke.

A very cozy episode, I was very surprised by the warm and friendly treatment Ayanami received from her three friends and the rest of the ship girls fleet.
I still await the arrival of more Iron Blood ship girls, but I know I can regret it if that means a violent offensive towards Azur Lane.

Agree entirely. This should have been the format for the first or second episode.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This episode should have been the format for the very first episode, and set the tone for the series. A quiet slice-of-life episode that introduces the characters, particularly fan-favorites like Ark-Royal, and sets the pace. Had the battle which took place in the first episode been placed as a cliffhanger right at the end of this episode, everything about Javelin and Laffey's reactions would have made sense.

Speaking of which, the pacing for this episode was perfect, an excellent balance between foreshadowing, character building, and world building. We got to see more of the naval base, too, which is always a good thing.

Apparently all of Bibury's animation budget was wasted on that one scene with glowworm and Ark-Royal. I wish that had been the standard for animation, and not whatever we got in the past 7 episodes; the animation this episode was unusually good, and didn't come at the cost of story.

I give this episode a 5/5. This is what Azur Lane should have been, and this is the standard I expected the show to meet by default.

Finally, after what feels like an eternity we get an episode that can match the first two in terms of quality. Of course, the episode was nice an relaxing on its own, but the animation was a gigantic step over the last two episodes. It's a shame because I think the Enterprise time-travel-siren stuff is really interesting and would be way more exciting if it had WAY better animation.

Does anyone here know exactly what happened? Like why (with a source if possible) did the animation quality take such a hit?

P. S. I've never hoped for a Blu-ray animation fix more in my life!

Ayanami got saved...both by Laffey and Javelin, and as a prisoner of war. Despite her recovery time in Azur Lane, the four friends (including Unicorn) are back and enjoying their time together like past times. And no one in Azur Lane demeans her presence and treated her fairly, which is nice. Ark Royal, I'd swear she's the usual lolicon fanatic.

With the escalating situation between the Sakura Empire and Sirens' Project (Black Mental Cube) Orochi against Azur Lane, more unsettlement between Enterprise's wellbeing and the insane power unleashed the episode prior. Situation's worse on the side of the Sakura Empire as the whole fiasco turned into disarray on trust issues of Akagi. Is it merely a battle between sisters, or is there something else?

Ending the episode by reintroduction is the sweetest taste of friendship by the trio to Ayanami, despite their relationship in terms of alliance.

A bit of yet another resting episode, with secrets of the Orochi yet to be uncovered.

Queen Elizabeth in casual clothes is so kawaii. :3

Prinza Eugen casually groping the waitress... the germans have a naughty ship. ><

Azur Lane base is never boring. The town is so lively with shops, and you can play sports.

Akashi is money-making cat.

Laffey can eat a pancake in one bite.

I'm so touched at the last scene. They "repeat" their meeting at the cliff. Ayanami picks up u-chan again. And this time they are able introduce themselves properly as friends. :)

Decent episode. The slice of life parts were a bit meh.

I hope we see more of yellowed eyed Enterprise but I doubt it since those types of events are normally a one off thing then they over come it the next time. I just hope we get back to focusing on Enterprise.

Still looking forward to seeing more Belfast X Enterprise action lol.

Its pretty obvious whats going to happen, Sakura Empire will team up with Azur Lane to defeat the big battle ship and Sirens. Hope Enterprise plays a big role.

*Triggered*

The problem is, this anime fails whenever it tries to show battles or its "serious" plot. Every episodes where they fought were always glorification of Enterprise and nothing more. On the other hand, it showed promising talent in showcasing other girls and their slice-of-life daily activities, which were among the best episodes. Sure, it'd be the best if they can balance out good action scenes and CGDCT, but so far, all battle scenes we got were far from good. They're focusing their effort and talent in wrong place.

And I doubt majority of game-players want Azur Lane to be a full-blown action-packed 12-episode shounen battle. Like J_B said, the game was never like that and battles are just an excuse to see our favorite shipfus in full glory. And the anime is barely doing that. Even previous Enterprise fans in game are getting tired of the anime's constant dick-sucking of her so I can't fathom why you want more of that "crap".

/rant

We've reached episode 9 and only 3 left but still no sign of other Ironblood's major ships except Eugen. I'm not even a big fan of IB but I'm starting to feel sorry for its fans who're probably waiting for some popular ships' appearance like Bismarck, Tirpitz, Graf Zeppelin etc.

It was clear from the very first episode that this anime was going to be more inspired by the actual history of WWII rather than just the game. As a fan of history I'm actually really enjoying that part. The issue with this approach is that most of the ships don't have a clear place in the story. There are some very popular ships that did very little due to being somewhere else or due to them sinking. HMS Hood had a disastrous combat record that flies in the face of her power in game. The Germany ships did very little in WWII, with the lion-share of the work performed by submarines. There are numerous ships like that, and that makes it hard to tell a good story.

The single reason that Enterprise has received so much focus in the anime is that no other ship at any point in history has been so impactful for her nation. Her story is the story of the United States Navy in WWII. She was at almost every important battle and was often the deadliest ship in that battle. It's for similar reasons that Zuikaku gets so much more focus in the games than the other carriers. Zuikaku was the best Japanese carrier, and always bested Enterprise when they fought each other.

Well then they should have focused on enterprise rather than focusing on so many characters and sides, its been 9 episodes and shes just the same broken mary sue, she barely had any character development, and belfast sucks as a supporting character, its really hard to watch the show with her as the MC, only reason I enjoyed this episode because she was out of the way, the starters have better chemistry than edgyprise

This episode the animation quality has improved a lot, smooth pacing, and more importantly more cute girls for ark-royal.
