THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Wow, this episode definitely delivered, but no surprise when the best people worked on it. There were still some issues which prevented it from being ideal imo.

I was surprised to see the anime original segment at the beginning. It was a good idea or at least I thought so at first, until I realized it was a rather short flashback. I hoped they would've stretched it to the halfway mark of the episode, that would've allowed tighter pacing during the fight. But the Sanji and Pudding part took momentum, so they rather should've placed it before the flashback. I didn't mind the shift to Rayleigh and Shakky on the other hand, at least it added something to the situation.

But enough of this, let's get to see good parts. The transformation was epic, I seriously love the Gear 4 theme. Animation and visuals were mostly pretty nice and I enjoyed the different styles that were used, especially the King Cobra looked lit. The OST choices were also dope and so the voice acting.

To sum it up, all in all great.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

I would have to say this was probably the best action scene in the anime so far!
all the fighting scenes in this episode were absolutely masterful and definitely met and sometimes exceeded my expectations of what I wanted from this episode!

Some pacing issues in the beginning and the second half, but all the action parts were solid to great. Pudding is a cute tsundere.

To be honest, I'm still not satisfied how the anime overall handled the fight, in the manga Luffy was getting punished hard too, but the anime made it seem like Luffy's endurance was basically limitless through the fight. Still one of the best fights because Katakuri is a bro.

The animation is just top notch here. One of the best animated fight in One Piece.
It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person.

Don't mistake tsundere for severe case of schizophrenia.

Episode was great but i really thought Katakuri would take more damage, Luffy got destroyed for 4 months and i feel like he is gonna win with 1 attack

Color me impressed with armament haki as I think the animation for this episode has been magnificent! The fight scenes were extremely fast-paced and that's incredible. Intense camera angles too. Now if only the previous episodes involving the fight between Luffy & Katakuri had this much quality, though.

I'm so glad Toei did a wonderful job animating this episode and they concluded this hard-fought brutal battle with justice! I love this episode so much! :D Gonna re-watch this a few more times. :'D

I was going to praise how well animated the buzzcut mochi scene was, until they reused it smh

Snakeman’s design is lame, it’s like a budget boundman. The super saiyan hair makes no sense and looks stupid.

They’re really overusing the Rayliegh flashbacks. I liked the first one because it showed Ray rekting gear fourth. The cut to Ray & Shakky was unnecessary and immersion breaking.

Finally the fight is almost over.

PS: How long has Big Meme been chasing the Sunny?! The sHs plot armour is too thick.

Great episode though I didn't felt much of it, animation was best of one pieces episodes, and , katakuri got his own ost as well, glad that they summed up the fight it and didn't dragged it on like the one with Flamingo.

that Reighley scenes always makes hype, never get bored of him.

I beg to differ, in between there were really some good consistent action when katakuri and luffy were on screen like ep 868 for example or the episode where katakuri was flying towards the ground for like 10-15 seconds without cut. Throughout the arc this fight had the most consistent animation of all one piece fights so far. Props to toei animation for actually delivering.

I knew it would be worth the wait. The pacing could have been a tiny bit better, but that was almost okay too. The animation was indeed awesome.

That smoke-transformation looked a bit odd. I was expecting Luffy to gradually cover his body in haki, or something, not smoke. I don't mind it, but it was a little bit strange.

Also I guess I was fooled by Katakuri's attack in the manga. When Luffy got stuck on Katakuri's attack, I always thought it was his own skin being torn apart by the thorns. It was a bit horrifying seeing Luffy's skin getting almost ripped off of his face, and then this episode I realized it was just mochi sticking to him. Haha, good to know.

So ... We have been waiting for this finalé. (I mean obviously there isn't much to their battle at this point). Guess we are waiting for some sorta Kaidou vs Luffy thing now, I guess? Reverie? Whateveeer is next, of course.

Holy fucking shit what an episode! Episodes like this one was the reason that I loved the One Piece anime to death back to the older days when they weren't stretching everything so much. Outstanding animation and the fight scenes were incredibly detailed for the most part. If only this fight wasn't being stretched so much before this episode with Luffy getting kicked around all the time, it would have been easily the best of the year.

Oda’s cheatcode to writing fights:

1. When you write yourself into a corner, give your protagonist a new powerup!
2. Follow up with a flashback to justify said powerup and watch how fanboys eat it up šŸ¤£

It makes sense Luffy would try to have different versions of Gear 4 that he developed in the 2 years, it was already foreshadowed by the fact that the first time it was used he called it "Bounce Man" focused on offense and not just a plain Gear 2 or 3.

Nice try, but this fanboy here knows more than you.

Nah, stop complaining. Luffy made gear 2 literally just from seeing it, literally in hours... He was training for 2 years, he had time to make a lot of things. This is a fight, you don't show everything from the beginning. You should know very well that Oda has literally the entire story planned out already, this fight, everything he's been thinking about it years before already.

No he hasn't stop being a fanboy, there have been so many retcons in the story that it proves already that all he has is the outline of the "main" arcs and nothing more, yes it was planned that Ace was going to die since we originally met Ace, yes it was planned for Luffy to be an almost clone of Roger since the start, it was obvious since they kept (and still keep) Roger's character hidden so far. Obviously Luffy has something to do with him, either as a Reincarnation (which makes sense on why he would've been born after Roger's death) or simply had his will transferred.

But the small things in the show are NOT planned, he keeps pulling it out of his ass.

Tell me how the bounceman would've benefitted in any situation before Dress Rosa ?

I agree with you not everything wasn't planned out since way back, that is well known, but calling them ass pulls is a stretch.

Don't make it sound as if you're some genius that knows what's going in Oda's mind, you don't, stop assuming. Yes it's true that the animation has gotten sloppy, but in actuality Toei pays the animators more than any other studio, it's all the animators to blame. If you despise what Oda does so much, you shouldn't even be watching this series, because from what I see you're the type of person to just complain and ignore the good parts.

Why would he use Gear 4 before Dressrosa? He was dominating guys like Hody and Caesar without it and it's meant to be used as a last resort.
