THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Hmm, I think the approach they took with the second series' finale was interesting. It felt like a reflection of psychological thoughts molded together. The music and narrative made some of the scenes look impactful.

Kinda liked the scenes shifting from frame to frame as a way to tell the story. I thought the episode felt very real that way.

I think the second season was overall just as good as the first. It was very faithful to the manga and a lot of details that I wanted to see were in it. The finale also had its own heartwarming moments that I think are quite memorable.

No Season 3 announced. Oh well.

Hopefully we see a third season in Fall 2018. There's enough content by now actually. But yeah, what a great season! Not only was the content Shaft was adapting was better than last season's, but the adaptation's quality went up too. Pacing, directing, storyboarding, they were all top-tier. A third season would end up being just as good since the content in the manga remains as strong.

Overall 8.5/10

Hmm so Rei decided to visit the house that he used to live in huh. Hearing the mothers insight sure was interesting though. The contrast between her own children and Rei especially so. To her Rei must have seem to be more like the ideal son than her true son was. The congrats scene was pretty funny in how Rei's congrats got turned against him in hillarious fashion. Rei's actions really have inspired a lot of people. It was nice that Rei and Hina were able to hang out with Takahashi one last time before he left. Hmm Hina's new hair style sure is interesting. A great end to such a fantastic series. The insight that the extra chapter offered was also appreciated as well. The illustration in the end was nice.

Final score: 10/10
SHAFT's adaptation: 11/10

SHAFT the lord of anime industry *__* I can't even find the words to describe how beautiful this adaptation was <3
With this and the monogatari series, SHAFT have thus almost dealt with every kind of genre there is (monogatari has way more tone shifts than what meets the eye), and nailed everything perfectly to become my single favorite anime studio.

Fantastic finale to a fantastic second season of 3-Gatsu.

The opening segment with Rei visiting his old house and his step-mon was brilliant. Just the narration, the music and the visuals. That was just amazing, I teared up at the end when Rei hugged the dog. It was almost as if he wanted to hug his step-mom as well but he just refrained from it and showed it all to the dog. That ending with his step-mom mentioning the dream where Rei was her child was really touching too.

The farewell to Takahashi was nice, I loved the shot of the three of them walking under the moonlight and the final scene where Takahashi waves goodbye with Hina and Rei just standing next to each other and smiling.
That moment were Hina reflected on him leaving later while working and deciding not to go see him off was really nice as well.

Noooo! Hina why'd you cut your hair? T.T
Hahahaha, Rei at the end repeating, "It's good" over and over again had me laughing.

I also loved the final part where Akari and Momo were humming the soundtrack.

Lovely end card. <3
The only disappointment of this season for me was that Bump of Chicken did not make a return. :(

Overall, the second season of 3-Gatsu surpasses the first in pretty much every way and that's saying something when the first season was already amazing. To say 3-Gatsu is powerful is an understatement, to me at the very least it is. There's just something about the way 3-Gatsu showcases itself that I just find so deeply moving, the show is just somehow so very personal for me. Maybe, it's because I find it deeply relatable but perhaps it's more that just that?
The way 3-Gatsu depicts all these small, intricate and intimate moments of reflection, realization, achievement and just life in general, eventually connecting them all together is perhaps what makes it so powerful and compelling. That's the thing, isn't it? It's not just about showcasing a particular theme or goal, it's more than that. In a sense, It's just life.
Shaft outdid themselves in this season with the visuals and imagery. The soundtrack while never overbearing is always used excellently to deliver tone and atmosphere. Fantastic production overall.

10/10 , hope we get a 3rd season?

Until next time 3-Gatsu.

The segment with the monologue of Reis stepmother was honestly intense. Glad he left that shithole of "home".

Lol,it's always super amusing to see Akari pleased, be it discounts or when cash is coming in,her reactions are priceless.

And haha,I really cracked up at the part with the haircut First I was like seriously? Hina is looking like Momo, but I got used to it very fast and at the end of the episode I thought that it suited her well.

Beautiful finale of an excellent series,I can't even remember one episode of this season which wasn't great. The eccentric visuals, the OSTs,the story, characters. This series was absolute top in every aspect and so I'm gonna reward this masterpiece with a 10/10.

Gonna miss this a lot and in case they won't announce a third season soon, I'm going to pick up the manga.

Hope the score is bumping up to 9.somewhat.

What a heartwarming finale for an amazing show. The monologue of Rei's stepmother was really great. He did them a favor for leaving. The farewell to Takahashi was pretty nice. Hina looks okay with short hair. Rei constantly staying he likes it was funny. The end card is beautiful. This was an amazing second season overall. The visuals and OST was gorgeous and the characters are excellent. Hopefully it gets a third season. 10/10

One of best anime I have ever seen. Closing with a last meeting with his foster mother. He was a person she could never accept as her son. So sad to see him hugging the dog knowing it was last time he would see him. On the other hand both he and his mother know that he will never come back.

The meeting with Takahashi gave Hina closure and made her realize that both he and Rei were pursuing their goals. Nice that Rei is thinking about Hina when thinking about his advancement

Hina looks more grown up in her bob not a household god. Rei's comments did help her go to school

One of the easiest 10/10 I can ever give out, seems like I've been on a 10/10 spree as of late (SoraYori, NGNL Zero, 3 Gatsu S2). But if I had to only give one of those a 10/10 it would be without a doubt this.

I actually really think that we will get a season 3 soon because San Gatsu no Lion is an anime that's actually not very depended on its blu-ray sales because it's aired on public TV. If the ratings are good enough, then NHK (I believe) will make another season.

I'm sorry, but I think the Other House chapter of this episode was an embarrassment to the anime.....It was literally a slideshow! Little more than colored in frames of the manga with music and voiceover. They even threw in some live action just to give it the slightest bit of movement! What the hell! I'm not against integrating live action into anime, but given the complete lack of animation in this episode it came off as just lazy. The content is great of course, but that's cause of the manga. I don't watch anime to see still frames with voice over, I like my anime to move! If I want my anime to look like how they did this episode I'd just read the manga.....Although I did read the manga so I know just how little different they managed to do with the adaptation of this episode. Huge letdown for a season finale. As least the rest of the season was great. Here's hoping they do season 3 and don't pull shenanigans like this again!

the first 10 minutes of the show felt more like a slideshow but the art was pretty and the voice acting was so soothing i honestly didn’t mind.

But yeah i loved this season just as much as i loved the first one,i think the second season focused more all of the characters instead of just Rei which was really nice.
&The ending scene was indeed quite heartwarming,i dont mind if it does/doesn’t happen, but from my perspective...love might be bloom :3

This finale was perfect. From Rei visiting his stepmom, to the scenes with Rei, Hina, and Takahashi, it really felt like everyone was getting some form of closure before moving onto the next phase of their lives. Also, I wish Hina didn't cut her hair but it got a funny reaction from Rei so I guess it was worth it.

I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed for a third season, because this show is seriously amazing. Really gonna miss this one.

The first season of this anime was a recommendation made to me by one of the viewers of my video reviews, over on Youtube... They'd promised a highly investing, emotional story. And, truth be told, I didn't really feel like the first season lived up to that. In fact, I only very mildly enjoyed it. So, when season 2 was announced, I legitimately debated whether or not I was going to 'bother' watching it. But, on a slow day, I caved. And I couldn't be happier that I did. Because the second season, all told, was leaps and bounds more investing. It got legitimately emotional, and brought me to tears on occasion. It fueled my rage, as well as sympathies, for Hina's in-school predicament. And it humanized Kiriyama that much more, for his being there for her. One of the best episodes, I feel, was with the old man shogi player, toward the latter half of the season. (Episode 18). The episode, and that voice actor's performance, was a tour de force. And it singularly made me give a crap about shogi -- which I have largely had no interest in. Suffice to say, season 2 was amazing. Fingers are well and truly crossed for a third.

Ah! What an adaptation. A 10/10 for everything.

Given the pacing, I really expected the anime to end in the Zashiki-Warashi/Kokeshi.

If I am being extremely positive, there won't be another season in at least 5 years from now. So, I am gonna suggest everyone to start reading the manga. You guys know where to start from right? Of course you do! If my memory serves right, since it has been a long time since I read the chapter being adapted I think other than some minor changes here and there, the anime has been extremely faithful. So you can start where the anime ended.

Now to pick up from where I put it on hold myself!

I had my eye on this series since the first episode aired back in Fall 2016, and I scoffed at those who didn't give this series a chance for its unique art direction and premise-- but it would be an utter lie if I said I could have predicted how amazing this series turned out to be. Now I'm really laughing.

This series is too real to be an anime, or any type of media for that matter, in fact, I am convinced that this is my life through and through. And it is, only 100x cuter and more compelling. Rei's depression is the center of this story, rather, the steps he has to take out to get himself out of it and realize he is worth something.

I can already see that haters will look at this episode and see nothing but a slideshow, but to me, there is so much more value in every singular shot. You can say this about the entire series too, I feel many look at this series and see nothing but melodrama, despite the entire point of SHAFT's and Umino Chika's direction is to be able to sympathize with these feelings.

This anime is a true work of art and I hope to Studio SHAFT, our god, that another season is made in the near future.

The second haircut of the week : Akari's speech about it made me laugh :) I'm glad they ended this season on this note.

With these last episodes we got everything that made this show so great : the beautiful art, the great voice-acting and music, the deep insight in people's thought, the warmth, the humor, amazing main characters but also amazing side-characters (o-bachan (I like her a lot), takahashi, ... ).

I really hope they'll do a third season. I guess it's up to NHK for that, like it was for the second season ?

Fantastic finale episode.

Nice to know more about Rei's life before living on his own & meeting the Kawamoto family.

Rei, Hina & Takahashi eating lunch together was nice.

Poor Hina. Doesn't seem to be a fan of her new haircut. LOL Rei can't stop complimenting it.

Overall a fantastic & enjoyable season. Loved the OP & ED songs. The background art of this show is simply amazing & the shots of the moon is always gorgeous to see.

Rei has changed so much from the first season. It's great to see him become more involved with others & help those in need. Hina's bullying arc was emotional at times, but I'm glad she was able to move forward with everyone by her side.

The Kawamoto Sisters were fantastic. This family is so amazing. Momo is adorable. I'm glad they are there for Rei.
The Shogi is always interesting to watch.

Congrats to Studio Shaft and everyone involved in the production of this anime. So sad to see it go, but a season 03 is a MUST because this show is the BEST.

The scene of the beginning between Rei and his step mother weirded me out at first, but I ended liking it. It was simply and it was mostly composed of still frames, but it has ended being strangely powerful. Hope Rei will solve the problems he has with his foster family one day.

I actually send a few tears with the departure of Takahashi. He is just a supporting character and he hasn't appeared that much, but he was one of the most likeable secondary characters of the series and he aided Hina in her darkest hour, so seeing him leaving made me very sad.

Lol, Hina got NisiOisiN'd at the end. That being said, I'm with Rei in this, her new hairstyle is adorable.

Few more things I have to say, this season has been fantastic, it take everything good from the first and made it better, and how much Rei has developed since the beginnings of the series has been incredible. I hope Shaft produces a third season one day. I don't know why, but that ending and the endcard with all the characters of the series together brought me a feeling of closure. I will read the manga where the anime was left, but it wouldn't be the same without the voice acting and the visuals. Oh, well.

It's a pity Kyouko didn't appeared much this season (without counting the flashback of this episode, she only appeared in the second episode, and indirectly in another flashback and a fantasy of Rei), but, on the other hand, seeing her tormenting Rei every two episodes would had getting boring eventually, so her screentime getting reduced wasn't that bad, but I still missed her a lot. At least they gave us an explanation about why she rarely appears, since her job requires her to travel a lot.

I'm going to miss this a lot...

this series has become my all-time favorite slice-of-life series. I am really hoping they announce a season 3, I'll probably have to start reading the manga!
10/10!

If you're going to post this 5 times in a row, the least you can do is give it a 10. :/

Yo, that's exactly what I thought when I saw her wanting to get her hair cut. I was like "Where's Araragi?!?!?!".

10/10, Simply Perfection, Shaft blew out the water with this second season.
Based SHAFT. The directing, the ost, the characters(the voice actors too), the visual storytelling, simply superb.

Like one of the person that said above, this is going straight in to my favourites list.

Lets hope for a third season in the future!
