AICO is being created by Studio Bones, is being funded by Netflix, and will be exclusive to Netflix, so that means no TV broadcast. It'll be coming out in 2018.

Netflix Announces Original AICO -Incarnation- Sci-Fi Anime

For me this is an exciting direction for Netflix to move in. Create actual originals and release them worldwide on Netflix. Netflix's budget for their anime is like 5x higher than the usual (according to tokyosaurus's analysis), so the animators will be getting paid much more for these projects, so that's great. If Netflix is not going to fix their simulcasting issues with their licensed content then I hope this is a sign that they'll move away from licensing and just acquire TRUE original content, then we won't have to worry about that.

Anyways, this show seems interesting. Looking forward to watching it.

Seems pretty nice, I just hope it will be less Mecha and more other stuff though.

PV didn't impress me that much personally.
I have low expectations for this one.

Is this original or what?
There seems to be a manga that just started.

I’m not hype, but kinda interested.

The whole synopsis already screams lack of originality... still, in the hands of a competent director and scriptwriter something like this could be fun. Now, with that in mind, I can’t say I have a great deal of confidence in Kazuya Murata when it comes to directing original TV shows. I thought both, Seikaisuru Kado and Suisei no Gargantia, ended up being pretty lackluster shows.

PV#1 was kinda neat. Overall, it looks like your typical action/sci-fi high-budget series about saving humanity (or something), which could be good or bad, depending on your expectations.

In one scene during the latest PV (0:49 and 0:55 mark), the main girl (Aiko) kinda looked like Rambo (with the red headband and all).

Anyhow, it looks entertaining and that’s all I’m hoping for this; nothing more, nothing less.

>Series Composition: Yuuichi Nomura (latest original work: Comet Lucifer)
Ok, that’s another let down in the staff. First the director and now this... Like I said a couple of months ago, I don’t have too much confidence on Kazuya Murata as a director, but I have even less confidence on Yuuichi Nomura as a scriptwriter/series composition... It is what it is, I suppose.

Same for me.

The thing about Yuuichi is that as far as the shows he completely scripted are concerned... they're just... bad, to put it bluntly. At least from the amount of stuff I've seen from him and the one that left me a big scar was Rinne no Lagrange. Which was pretty terrible as an mecha show.

But its not like I'll go and instantly avoid this, its just going to leave my expectations down a bit but I'm more mixed with this if you ask me.

Am I the only one who could possibly think this could be a trainwreck from Studio Bones/Netflix? After watching a couple of the pvs, I wasn't impressed with the animation, wasn't interested in any of the characters, and bored with the concept and thought it's kinda cliche. The only thing that interested me is probably the powers of the main girl, but that's just it. Maybe I'm judging it too hard, but I have to be honest. I didn't like it at all. I do not understand the hype for this anime. Even Devil Man: Crybaby looks better than this.

Although I already complain about this anime, I should give them points for the fucking cherry blossom scene in the end at least cuz that was just the best part honestly who doesn't like cherry blossom moments :)

since when does bones create original net animations? from the synopsis it appears to me that 12 episodes wouldn't be enough for this clustermess.

I'm expecting this to either be on the lower end of bone's output to potentially being the worst thing they've ever made. That script writer is just....wow...in a case with a different director i could maybe expect something a bit more cause it still ultimately comes down to them, but the guy behind it really only has wasted potential the series gargantia on his resume. The only reassuring thing is that he did write the script for tokyo magnitude 8.0 which was an emotionally powerful series for me, but the difference is that was a very different series going through disaster scenarios and the repercussions of them, its a simple story told well in a short amount of time and it works, this seems way too expansive for its own good in 12 episodes and kind of trying too hard.

Even visually I think its lacking alot of personality, from all they have released it feels like its a step right below what it should be in movement whislt the artstyle itself lacks much identity. No matter where I look I just dont see much worth of any in this.

It's an original anime by the guy who wrote Comet Lucifer and Rinne no Lagrange...
Netflix set the bar for their anime originals very high with the release of Devilman Crybaby, but my expectations are pretty low for this show.

After B:The Beginning, I'm alot more excited about this show and what direction it will take. Seems like being funded by Netflix gives the creators more freedom with what they can do. With Bones working on it as well, we should see some pretty cool fights too.

interesting to hear this take when it seems generally most people are saying the opposite.

I'd really like to be proven wrong on this one, i really do, but I seriously just dont see this series being anything above bad. That staff is just too awful and I feel like its really just going to waste alot of bone's talented animators on something really painful.

I can see where your coming from, the staff isn't exactly the best but I'd rather be optimistic about this considering Netflix is going to have 30 anime series this year. The more well received shows the more likely it is for them to keep supporting anime.

Looks pretty interesting, and I already got it on my PTW list, so I'll see how it pans out when it airs this Friday (March 9th, 2018)...or whenever I get around to watching it. :D
