I've been wondering this for a while now, but as far as i know season 1 was true to the manga. But season 2, root A, was completely different than the manga. Or just parts? What exactly was so different then? What are your thoughts on Tokyo Ghoul in general?
I never read the manga, so i wouldnt know what the differences were. I kinda liked the second season, while so many people hated it.

If season 3 releases, do u think it will somehow try to follow the manga? Or will we get a different story again?

I haven't read it, so I'm not entirely sure what is different.
I definitely disliked the second season, and even dropped it because it was overwhelmingly boring.
A full season is confirmed? Where is this at?

MANGA SPOILERS
Basically the main thing that people were pissed about with Root A is that Kaneki joins Aogiri after he gets tortured but in the manga he makes a group to try and kill them. The manga goes into a lot more detail with Kaneki's character and why he does certain things but in the anime they kind of had to squish it all down which sucks but there was nothing else they could do. In the end everything pretty much ends up the same. As for season 3 everything pretty much completely changes in the manga as Kaneki loses his memory so they still have the option to stay faithful to the manga.

as an avid tokyo ghoul fan its mainly all key events being left out of the anime in which 12 episodes is way too short to capture most of tg. and I think ppl disliked the fact it strayed away from the source material as well as ishidia giving them a draft to go by to construct s2 but they ignored it.

I think most of the backlash comes form the fact that the changes aren't as good and are considered worse especially him joining the aogiri as well as the ending of s2 where kaneki was suppose to fight arima. With all the changes its had its hard to see what direction tg is headed in

The manga was rather messy itself so I kinda understand if people hate the worse anime version, which I haven't watched myself since I disliked the manga.

Ahh yes, I was like that too.... And then I read the manga... Ahhh memories.

The second season differs almost completely and even the first season left some things outs. I strongly hope the announcement about the 3rd season is just a joke and it won't ever happen.

It's just your typical edgy series with supernatural elements, cheap shock value and mass appeal to young teens like Elfen Lied/Higurashi/Mirai Nikki were back in the days. People who are more versed in anime can quickly see that there's not much substance here whatsoever.

Manga is way better and season 1 was terribly adapted as well

To be honest, I liked season 2.....but then I read the manga. I still think it's ok (gave it a 6/10), but the manga is so much better. What makes it even worse is that there's no real reason for root A to even exist. Part 1 of the manga ended well before season 2, so it should've been adapted in its entirety.

Season 1 was more focused on character development rather than the factions and politics in Season 2.

I recommend to anyone to read the manga if you enjoy it. It is so much better than the anime and it's really good.

I didn't like either season of Tokyo Ghoul, it's practically fillers apart from episode 1 and episode 12

I never read the manga but my problem with Tokyo Ghoul was season 2.

That being said. All of the transformations were some of my favorite in anime. Kaneki went from 0-100 reeaaal quick XD

The difference between anime and the manga are like Soft Porn from Porn... you see boobs, you see movement, you hear some moans, you may see some pubes, but you don't get to see the genitalia so the experience feels incomplete...

The first season: Boring and filled with the main character's whining and angst, barely watchable. 6/10

The Second Season: Somewhat better because it was different from season 1 and more entertaining. 7/10

I've only seen the anime though, can't help you when it comes to the manga.

I hate the 2nd season because it changed some things but still ended the same way as the manga. In that sense, it wasn't completely original like Pierrot said it would be. They might as well not had made any changes at all.

I enjoyed it regardless but I can't say its a good adaptation. TG needed at least 39 to 48 episodes to have a great or amazing adaptation tbh.

I expected people still talking about this mediocre show. Pretty less rush compare to the manga since season 1 but in the next season they decided to take the different route which is kinda shortcut.

the being different from the source meaning it is bad atittude, is something i hate in pretty every fandom, and the fans of tokyo ghoul are one of the most obnoxious examples of that, i dunno what great improvents would come from following the manga

I just rewatched anime to start new seasons. As ppl said before 1st season was generally true adaptation while 2nd season is complete mess. Characters act without reasons at all starting with kaneki joining Aogiri and ending with him standing in front of ccg. why was he even allowed to go there in such situation? No idea how are they going to logically excuse his admission to ccg. Well I'll know in few minutes.

I haven't read the manga, but I hate Tokyo Ghoul. It's the most moodiest, dullest, dark anime I've seen. The story is all over the place, the characters are dull. The only legitimate reason I can find that people like this series is that it's a "very dark and serious" anime, which are kinda rare nowadays.

Tokyo Ghoul gets hate. because of its adaptation for the manga, I guess its more preferable to read the manga.
