That's the most bizarre shogi game I've ever seen.

What a clever episode. For what's worth, I really find the creativity of this show to be on another level when it comes to turning simple things into something much more interesting.

Second half around Yaichirou and Gyokuran made me feel like crying again, such beautiful music and atmosphere again and they made the pairing look so natural in just one episode.

Oh damn, Benten is definitely pissed.

Anyway, fantastic episode again. The moments with the idiotic brothers are always hilarious and the way the shogi game was setup was also quite interesting XD.

Also, Gyokuran and Yaichirou's moment during the second half was beautifully executed. It was really something. And that cliffhanger! I wonder what happened there. Can't wait for the next episode!

Interesting episode. Not sure where this season is headed towards, but I hope the payoff is as great as season 1 was.

Oh hell nah... This better not be one of those two idiotic brother's pranks.... because if it is I'mma crawl into this anime and smack them up!

The first part was nice enough for us to get the history for Gyokuran and Yaichirou. I'm quite glad to see that both have feelings for one another and that all parties' closest family also approve of their slow-burning relationship.

I was kind of annoyed by Yassaburou not being able to keep his lid in check when his cousins provoked him, but he sort of made up for it by coaxing Gyokuran down from her tower by playing the fool. Was also amused at how he changed himself into those imaginary shogi pieces when trying to one-up Ginkaku and Kinkaku.

I wonder though... just what their elder brother's roll in this season will be. I cannot help but feel like somethings amiss with this Kureichirou character....

Love the creative use of transformations.
Kind of lame what Benten did, not really a big deal.

BenTen's way of getting even with Nidaime is to ruin his ironed shirts, and he somehow slept through that. It'll be interesting to see what happens when the two of them encounter each other again. =)

The shogi game with the tanukis as shogi pieces was was rather odd, but the spat between Yasaburo and Ginkaku and Kinkaku was amusing.

Yaichiro and Gyokuran had a nice moment with them playing shogi together, but what was with that shogi board sucking her up like that? Is the shogi board cursed?

Great episode again. Honestly though, it's annoying to see 4 people hate this episode already, and with the above user stating rather poor reasons to dislike it too. =/

Can't impress everyone sadly...

Episode was sooo good! Gyokuran is super cute, and that Shogi game at the end was heart warming! SO Cute!

My guess is that she got sucked into the Fathers secret hiding place. They mentioned that earlier in the episode no one could find it so that's my guess on where she went.

Benten stepping on my mans shirts was hilarious. he goes through so much work to iron them and for her to stomp them was great.

She looks extremely pissed off in that preview though.

I did not expect this topic to be a loving matter today. The fact that between Gyokuran and Yaichirou we were tender I had deduced from the cover of the BD box.

The episode leaves the issue between Benten and Nidaime unresolved, but lets presume that their next fight will not be painless. I was astonished as Nidaime, he remained impassive, after Benten had ruined his shirts, wow! Overall I found this episode soothing and fun. The quality of the drawings is amazing.

The subtly of this anime continues to amaze me. In response to the Nidaime's careful placement of a crisp white sheet on the floor before unceremoniously dumping Benten onto it, Benten went to the Nidaime's closet and threw several of his white shirts on the floor, tearing one with her heel, and in effect trampling on the Nidaime's gentlemanly show of kindness. The two must share a history that's yet to be revealed. I wonder if the great and powerful Benten has met her match (or is at last learning her place in the hierarchy of things)? Tanuki have tanuki places and humans, even powerful ones, have places that are ruled by humans. One of those places a human probably shouldn't go is the home of a tengu, most especially as an uninvited guest.

The soundtrack and the tender moments of the anime go so well together. Who could resist Yasaburou's mother in her gentle reproach of Yasaburou's behavior at the Shoji tournament? That scene and the one with Yasaburou's grandmother were deeply enchanting.

You can tell when a great writer is at work, they layer important things in so casually:

Exhibit: giant cedar was once again mentioned finally.

What tree? The tree that Yasuburou created under Benten's encouragement and so fooled Akadama Sensei that he fell from it, hurting his back. It is why he can't fly. It was mentioned in the bar scene in the first season.

So Akadama had tied Yasuburou to it before. Interesting. I think "why" is clear.

God dang this is good, it all feels so calm and natural, despite the strange things that happen such as the shogi tournament. And all those ironed shirts were ruined in an instant.

What was that? Here i wanted to say about how romantic and chill this episode was and this happened at the end? Jeez i hope she is alright what a cliffhanger honestly and this is a show that doesnt do many cliffhangers.
Oh i just love how their mother said outta nowhere I like her, i want her as Yaichirou's wife. And Yasaburou is the best henchmen for getting Yaichirou and Gyokuran together like that.

This may be my favorite episode of the new season so far. I liked Yasaburo and Yaichirou's interactions. The big shogi scene was hilarious. Especially the cousins breaking out the old dai-shogi pieces that take up two spaces. Their comeuppance was pretty great this time too. And considering how little set up it had I liked Yaichirou's romance with Gyokuran. Curious where they were going with that cliffhanger. And when Tenmaya and Akadama's son will become important again. Especially after that tense opening with him and Benten.

Another cliffhanger? Come on! Do we really need to have it in every episode?!

Anyway, the first half of this episode with shogi battle was really boring, I almost thought I give up watching this, all the slapstick was very annoying.

Then the second part with Yaichirou x Gyokuran relationship came and it got a bit better but there was still lot to be deserved. I'm losing him in this season, it can't even compare to greatness of the first one.

Also, how come Yaichirou is 'younger' brother (otouto)? He should be older than Yasaburou, right?

It's not red string of fate but red fur of fate xD

Not cliffhanger again :(
That shogi board just reminds me of gourd from journey to the west.. Whenever you call the name and they answered, they got sucked inside

Wondering if that cliffhanger has something to do with Souichirou's hidden place in the forest. Perhaps a portal? I feel like Yaichirou & Gyokuran are made for each other.

-*puke* go away benten
-there is so much movement in the OP
-we sports anime now
-kinkaku and ginkaku are actually really funny
-a r r a n g e d m a r r i a g e
-mom with the guilt trip
-yasaburo finna slide into those DMs

This was a pretty nice episode in terms of comedy, and it was actually really refreshing to see more banter between the two morons and Yasaburo. They should totally just replace Benten with more Kinkaku and Ginkaku shenanigans. The episode in general decided to put the focus on Gyokuren, and she seems decent enough but there wasn't anything else in the episode that was too standout aside from the exchange during the tournament match. The show still seems to be in setup phase.

Best shogi match lmao. My memory is kind of hazy as I put this show on a slight hiatus, but I totally ship them. I wonder where she got transported to though.

This was a nic episode! That shogi game was interesting, but of course those fucking twins had to fuck everything up. Why someone more responsible doesn't just kick their asses into the ground is beyond me!

Ah, Gyokuran! It's nice to meet the sweetest lady here again. But be careful, she can turn into a scary tiger :p

The atmosphere between her and Yaichirou is so warm and gentle, I hope they'll become a couple soon.

And again, I'm enamored with the way Yasaburou handles things. He's still the most appealing character here, at least to me.
