I just watched this last night/this morning..

WTF, haha...

I'm not sure if I'd say it ended properly.

Oh well, I don't think this is the type of show to have a structure as such =P

Yeah, that's why it is just an expression for them and it has really no meaning. This show really bothers me alot, how come the main character in the Furi Kuri also didn't know what does Furi Kuri means. Hahaha!

as far as the meaning of "furi kuri", in the director's commentary it is stated that it's a play on the term "kuri kuri" which is apparently slang for "fondling breasts". in ep. 1, the grandpa shows haruko about fondling breats during the manga scene. also in ep 6, kamon is is like "fooly coolying all over the place!" IMO it's particularly hilarious when they ask naota what it means and he says "how should i know, i'm still in grade school!"

Loved the ending. Definitely need to watch it a few times to understand it, then a few more times to pick up on all the in-jokes, puns and plays on words. Love the inclusion of satirical elements that include western culture too, such as South Park, don't see it often at all.

The connection between fondling breasts and FLCLs story is huge. It's essentially a story of coming of age, obviously, so it's sprinkled full with sexual innuendo and other things. Pretty much everything is a metaphor for sexuality and maybe freedom (not every closely that Naota goes FLCL and has hard, long objects growing out of his head whenever there's girls around).

The whole thing is so eminently multi-layered... Definite favourite of mine.

Ahhh, I see I see!!! So, the plot is really on coming to age?! Hmm, still don't want to know that why is it focused in the robots near the end. Haha! Furi Kuri - Fondling Breast - coming to age - robots?!

Metaphors and, hmm, just random nonsense XD

Tip: Listen/read their conversations without thinking of what's going around. You'll see that a large portion of what they talk about is thinly veiled sex.

Correction: They had just made NGE. They needed a break.

If you've seen NGE, you know you really don't need drugs anymore. Now imagine creating it.

since most of you guys seem to think the story makes no sense whatsoever ill try sum it up. FLCL is a huge metaphoric anime, you could say its story about the sexual development stage of a boy.

the story begins when Haruko ("investigator for the Galactic Space Patrol Brotherhood") opens a portal in naota's head with her guitar in her attempt to find atomsk the priate king, robots come out of this portal when hes sexual active. all the robots including Canti come from Medical Mechanica. Medical Mechanica wants to iron out the wrinkles in brain to make everyone dumb. the iron is expressed as that big ass factory/iron in the middle of the town which puts out steam. The hands are expressed throughout the episodes as the robots. Towards the end of the OVA series there are big hands which come close to flatten the town with the iron. Noata saves the day with the powers of the pirate king.

Actually you need to watch the whole series to know wtf is going on. even then you might still be a bit confused. Gainax has a tendency to fk with peoples heads

I agree with the coming of age thing. It isn't particularly hard to understand. The anime has a nice structure, it's the weirdness and sheer randomness of some scenes that confuse a lot of people's heads.
It was too short, IMO. :(

I wanted more Mamimi, I found her to be quite touching. Why did she leave so suddenly and without talking to Naota again? Is it because she realized that he's not his brother, her former boyfriend? Is it because she finally doesn't see him as a kid anymore, or, on the contrary, does? Or is it because he was looking at Haru leaving, with her guitar in his hand, and Mamimi realized that he doesn't belong to her? I tend to think it's because of the second reason.
This is the only thing that left me puzzled a bit.

i think it ended in a great way without making it feel all resolved in a sappy way cause pretty much that wouldn't make sense with the premise they had with the randomness, crazyness, mindf*ck story they were going with it. For a 6 episode ova series its pretty damn awesome. I enjoyed it alot due to its difference which in all trying something different is what gets us somewhere.

The problem I had with the ending was that Naota really didint change much. He grew up a little, saving the world, expressing his love for Haruka. But You see him later in High School acting the same. Thats what really took away from the story, imo. Thats why it doesnt have a "resolved feeling" to it.

Ahh man my favorite anime. Ever. I started watching this because I remember seeing some of it before with my older sister years ago. It makes me feel so nostalgic. But yea, it was good in a way that it was so short, so it doesn't spoil like all those animes that drag on for too long.

Naota's father: "Let's be a normal anime!" ... No way, José!
This was far from being normal xDD I liked it, although I didn't really get everything there is to get, I believe.

Can't agree here. I think it emphasized that Naota IS really a kid. Yes, he wanted to grow up and be acknowledged as an adult, but in reality, he still is a kid. That's why in the end, both Haruko and Mamimi leave him and he's finally free from being torn between those two stages (being a child and being an adult). In the end, he's left in the stage in-between to begin growing up for real.

I guess...xD" Might be totally wrong though.

Anyway, I quite liked this. 9/10. :3 Pyon!

Quite a bit of a dividing line for this series between everyone I suppose.
Great Anime, awesome clusterfuck but to really get it you need to watch it again and then again if your still lost. Doable with a short series like FLCL but still a drag.
