Now that was a knockout punch. Those eyes were brimming with incoming doom. The theme that plays whenever Carlos is on screen is so catchy. God the OST is so damn memorable for Ashita no Joe 2. My head still rings from the Rikishi's trumpet theme from the first series, so this selection is rather refreshing. Not that Rikishi's tune was annoying, it was just overused a tad imo. Much like Joe's whistle. Haven't heard it as much so far in #2. I like small usage of the best tunes, it seems this series is getting it right so far :D

Now we finally proceed to the exciting match between Joe and Carlos.

I don't know but I feel like Ashita No Joe 2's pace is so fast. Thye should slow down a bit.

The pacing is pretty fast but damn, another awesome episode. I'm liking this Carlos vs Joe buildup more than the one in the first season.

^ I disagree, I say that the 1st season have an incredible buildup between Joe & Carlos. Although it seem kinda slow pace but it felt really natural especially the part about overcoming Riikishi's death

I also like the season 1 buildup more.

Here, he hardly even knows Joe, sparred one time with him, and Joe's already more important than the world champion title.
But in season , a stronger bond was formed and it was much more believable that he choosed Joe over his chance.
Also it seems like Carlos is a bit more violent. He freely choosed to destroy Ozaki and he even punched his manager :/

Tiger was destroyed and Carlos challenged Joe!
It seems that he is fully recovered after that sparring match.

i was wondering how they introduce a new antagonist that lives up to Rikiishi and legit had a proper funeral in Japan due to how beloved he was when Rikiishi first died in the manga. However Asao Takamori did an amazing job to write another great character i was kinda worried this was gonna be like a death note however this doesn't seem like the case.

Can't believe Carlos actually used an elbow blow against Joe, that was low. Also surprised that Carlos actually punched Robert, damn.

Yoko's personality has always been weird to me. She's on the borderline of being caught up with everyone else's ambitions, but also being one of the drivers of both growth and destruction in the show. Here, she's assisting Joe in committing to an all-out brawl in the ring. It feels like she has a lingering grudge against Joe, where she's helping Joe get back into the ring to properly have him beaten. It seems both Joe and Yoko have the same goals: have Joe fight a proper match on equal footing, and for Joe to lose properly to put an end to his bloodlust. Joe wants to find some meaning to his life, and at this point, he only knows the ring. As such, once he's fought his fill, he won't have anything left to live for. For Yoko, it seems like once she's achieved her goal of having Joe lose to someone equal to Rikiishi, she can finally put her own past behind her.

Regardless, they're both obsessive people who want the same things in their own twisted ways. I will say though, Joe is lucky he has so many people sacrificing time, money, and blood on him, whether if it's to raise him as a champion, or to put him six feet under.

Carlos' fight was impressive. As he announced, KO 1st round and at the 17th second. :D

I can't wait to see his fight against Joe Yabuki in this new version.

I also think the first season had a better buildup, this is too fast. The whole Carlos plot is just as stupid as the first time; I can't believe nobody would notice that he's constantly cheating, especially since he's using the elbow strike time after time to incapacitate his opponents.

Joe is finally back. No more being haunted by "Ghost of Rikiishi".

Carlos Rivera is a worthy opponent for Joe.

Yoko throughout the this episode: "Just according to keikaku. I help Joe to recover "

I know this episode was to give a reason for the two to finally fight because of their interactions throughout but season 1 felt more natural.
The pacing between the two barely knowing each other into Carlos wanting to fight Joe and giving up his title match ... just too fast.

Also the elbow hit in season 1 felt more like Carlos just fooling around and knowing he can get away with it rather than using it to cheat.

I do think this season does a better job at portraying Yoko and how she got Carlos to Japan only to put some life back into Joe, give him something to strife for.
Especially after she lost Rikiishi to Joe, not wanting Joe to waste away his life.
