I enjoyed his antics so much in Battle tendency but in SC he's so different. I understand that it's been 50 years and he's matured but damn..

Battle Tendency is the second arc of Jojo' Bizarre Adventure, Stardust Crusaders is the third.
Joseph Joestar is the MC in BT and one of the MC's in SC.

Anyway, he doesn't really feel that different to me. He's still pretty loud, just aged.

Well everyone were a little disappointed when they first read about Joseph in SC. Although I want to believe that Araki with this fact wanted to express these exact words:
Mr7Beans said:

Joseph is getting old and such (he might not have big spotlights 'cause Jotaro), but anyway he still behave like his old self in truth, and that's what's important. He must continue to be coherent until the end.

So he's lesser than Joseph but greater than Joseph, so who is it? Old Joseph.

He is still pretty buff (thanks to Hamon), but obviously 50 years change a person.

I think DP are Joseph fans as well, though. They gave him some cool filler scenes so far and I am pretty optimistic they will find a way to please us.

They probably also want to keep him relevant for people that are just getting into Jojo from this anime. Like you said, he's the star in most of the filler scenes so far, and hopefully they'll really make the few fights that he does have awesome.

50 years can do that to a person. He still has some of his quirks from when he was younger. But I still think he's cool regardless.

I said it before and I'll say it again, that's what happens when you are practically raised by Speedwagon. The more he's aged, the more he's become like him.

In the OVA he might be different but in this version not at all, just older and more suppressed because Jotaro gets the spotlight with his lame ass.

Ehh I'm still not impressed with Jotaro. He's kind of bland unlike Joseph. Even though Joseph is old he's still awesome and it wouldn't be the same if he wasn't around.

I have no problem with Joseph's transition from Battle Tendency to Stardust Crusaders. He's still very much the same character but with some changes to reflect his age that I feel work both perfectly and reasonably. This becomes more apparent as the story progresses so I would probably advise disappointed viewers to just sit tight before making any crucial judgements or getting worked up.

Each part is designed to show off the new Jojo, so it's pretty much natural that Jotaro is getting the spotlight here, and this trend continues throughout. If anything it's really a treat that we still get Joseph as a fully fledged main cast member here. This isn't often the case as the story advances.

I agree, he does not seem like the same character to me. I cannot feel the same energy from him and he does not display any of the quirks and catch phrases that made him so lovable. Maybe if he gets into a fight scene, we will see the old Joseph again.

Perhaps they are just taking their time with him and he will have more cool moments in episodes to come, but so far I prefer the season 2 Joseph, hands down.

Exactly.
I think his character progression is pretty understandable, and tends to make sense with how people actually end up maturing in real life. Not that he's an incredibly realistic character or anything, I'm just saying his progression as a character is realistic.

Joseph uses it a couple times in SC (he already has), but it's never used again after SC. It's not needed anymore. The Ripple was an art passed down with the purpose of eventually defeating the Pillar Men, which has been accomplished.

Also why do people call it Hamon? What's so special about it that it stays untranslated? It's like One Piece's "nakama" all over again -_-

Well personally I like the name Ripple over Hamon, but everyone calls it Hamon so I just call it that when I'm talking to people.

And really? That kind of sucks. I prefer Ripple over Stands, so I might not like the other series as much as I liked phantom blood and battle tendency.

I would just give it some time as the show gets to better and more interesting stands. The stands and fights get much more interesting and tense as SC goes on, and even moreso in future parts. The reason I prefer Stands is the unpredictable nature of them. Unlike The Ripple, each stand has completely different powers, strengths and weaknesses, so no two fights are the same. The Ripple, on the other hand, was pretty limited and similar among all Ripple users. I really think that Part 2 hit the limit of just how awesome and interesting The Ripple could be.

Well the majority of the stands are humanoids based on my experience with the franchise so far. It really adds creativity and uniqueness imo, and makes some stand users encounters unpredictable.

I'm not sold on the old Joseph but I'll try to reserve judgement until the end. As for now I concur. I understand that of course after 50 years he is going to change a bit a wisen up but so far he doesn't seem like a logical progression over time of the young joseph. All I really see is a angry but still kinda badass old man, he is missing the flare and energy of the flamboyant young Joseph.

You just explained what it means to get older.

Mentally, he's more like Indiana Jones's Dad, rather than Indy himself. Heck, old Joseph really looks like Sean Connery.

He's definitely different and matured, but he's still fundamentally the same. He's still goofy and makes plans and sticks to them. Notice how even in episode 10, he as upset that Abdul/Avdol left to find Polnareff on his own because that wasnt part of the plan. The thing is, in Part 2, Joseph did nothing but fight. In Part 3 so far, he hasn't fought yet. I mean, how else would a 67-year-old Joseph act outside of combat besides being goofy and making plans (which is all he's done so far)?

This is a really simple concept.

Young Joseph was a show stealer. His personality kept everything focused on him.

At its core SC is Jotaro's story, and the author can't have Joseph fucking taking over every scene.
