THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Gotta feel for Lafiel here. I believe she did the right thing, but leaving the most important person to you alone on the planet could haunt her if, Jinto dies. And, even then, it would probably bother her either way.

actually it would. since her encounter with him she hasn't really been the same nor does she act like most of her people do.

That's what I want to know, if Spoor is alive, she is going to kill Lafiel. Quite frankly, rightly so.

Also I have to say how I loved how Lafiel's dad told Admiral Bebaus off. About time someone did that.

Hrmmm . . . So they decided to retreat by running in to the enemy . . . I really don't understand the logic the Abh have. Aside from that though, finally it's come to the episode I have been looking forward to . . . What the hell happens to the count?!?!

The enemy fleet that ran into Trife's fleet...wasn't that the same fleet that almost annihilated Spoor's fleet? If they meant to surrender in the first place, why would they even bother fighting Spoor? That doesn't make sense.

The simple answer would be, they probably didn't know what was waiting for them at the gate. Spoor's fleet was overwhelmingly outnumbered. They were probably convinced that Spoor was simply buying time for reinforcements to come so there was no need to negotiate with her. Spoor overplayed her hand and paid the price for it.

Lafiel's father knows something unusual is going on with her. I'm not quite sure what the debt is that he intends to repay to Jinto by reclaiming the Hyde system though. Was it for being with her after her mother's death? For saving her life on that planet back in season one? For being such a close friend to her? Or is it something else? I'm curious because of how vaguely he worded it.

As for Lafiel herself, I again agree with insan3 that although she did the right thing, leaving him behind will probably haunt her for the rest of her life if he dies, despite it not really being her fault. She'll probably take it harshly either way, but especially so if Jinto dies-- and to be honest, at this point I believe that is a possible outcome. A small OVA sequel is not enough to guarantee Jinto's survival.

I believe Jinto himself has reached a crux in his character development. He knows that he hasn't been doing everything he can to make his relationship with Lafiel continue in the direction it started back in season one, and he has determined to survive and do better. Whether that will make his death all the more tragic, or whether he will accomplish his goal, we will see soon. Either way, I believe he's become a stronger man through all of this.

We've been set up for quite a finale, haven't we?

Doing a rewatch of this fantastic series. While the art and animation havee dated, the story and characterizations are as top notch as ever. I had forgotten how the ED of this episode had taken scenes from the first season to really drive home Jinto's longing and nostalgia.

Jinto ultimately wanted the evacuation to proceed without any issue, and Lafiel prioritised his wishes there. I think it was a solid decision. Jinto put himself into that position by going to the planet without any weapons of his own. I think he knew as much, which is why he was stoic and committed to the evacuation order himself, even when held captive. How will Spoor interact with Lafiel now is the real question.
