Awesome climax!

I agree the attempt to make us sympathize with Housen felt cheap though. I'm all for humanizing villains and giving them interesting motivations and backgrounds, but I prefer that to be done earlier and not while they're dying in an attempt to give them an undeserved heroic send off.

Anybody who calls this the worst arc clearly didn't watch that terrible gho- I mean "stand" arc.

Best arc yet. That time killing intro though. xD The Gin x Hijikata killed me xD

Well the first 4 minutes were anti-climactic lol...
Still enjoyed it as a cooldown from all the seriousness of this Arc.

But those lines though:
"Why must you reject me as well? Why... When I desire you so much..."
Absolutely beautiful.

Lastly, this is the best Arc so far.
9/10.

Yeah, get fucked, Housen. I'm sure Gintama would try to portray even Hitler in positive light. It's honestly getting quite hilarious.

Despite its faults (too much melodrama), this arc definitely had its moments, though.

Yeah, the intro was hilarious!

Gin was awesome in the fight and the girls, getting him in the sun and he was going gross. Poor guy though. The ending was sad.

Kumui is gonna come after Gin.

If u thought this arc was the worst, u have 0 attention span and are probably an unpleasable annoying piece of shit irl. This arc had everything from crazy bad ass fights to new and interesting characters while still having comedy. Stop with the nitt picking please🖕🏽"Too much melodrama" headass

if you look into the spoken words or the subs, the yoshiwara in flames arc (especially episode 145) is pretty poetic and symbolic. metaphors and personification, mainly on these: sun, moon, chains, night/darkness, ... .

some (negative) comments from other people on this arc:
"Worst Gintama arc so far, really boring."
"Glad this arc is over. Got tired of the melodrama quick."

too bad for you people, gintama has a tendency of switching from gags/comedy to drama (and vice-versa) on story arcs. and boy, they do it well. i think it is one of the assets of gintama.

personally, i like the poetry and symbolism in this arc, as well as the themes and issues. worth relating to in real life. patriarchy, power, women, [true] freedom, ...

I mostly liked this arc, but the ending was pretty bad. Housen did some awful things. He made those women slaves, that's just unforgivable! The fact that the narrative didn't give me the cathartic resolution of seeing him suffer and all the ladies get their revenge left a bad taste in my mouth. Instead they chose some bullshit drama trying to make us feel sorry for that women abuser. I'm sorry, I know it's fiction and all, but it made me feel sick to my stomach.

I liked some fight scenes, but I didn't find the story entertaining... perhaps too "shounen"? IDK, something seemed off

I don’t get the negativity of a lot of comments. To each his own opinion, of course, but for me, I loved this arc! Badass Kagura & Gintoki made every minute worth it! Plus I just loved the story overall, & meeting Kamui! Looking forward to more of him in the future! For me, the only thing that could have made the arc any better would have been if Hijikata & Sougo were involved somehow. :)

Yeah really, I don't understand why everyone is saying this arc sucks. Had some of the most epic moments of the series so far, and really elevated the story beyond anything we'd seen before.

I will agree though that Hosen's backstory felt kind of forced. Dude was a straight piece of shit the entire arc, yet now we're somehow supposed to feel sorry for him. I guess not being able to look at the sun is great reasoning for enslaving hundreds of women.

Glad the arc is coming to a close though. Feel like it was paced perfectly

Why? Why must Gintama insist on ruining its villains by trying to make them sympathetic? So we should feel sad for this evil piece of shit who enslaved, raped and killed thousands of innocent women because he couldn't go out in the sun? So damn stupid. I was really loving this arc but this just left a bitter taste in my mouth.

There is one thing I really dislike about this arc, and that's this ending. Why are they giving Housen a proper and respectful death scene? And to the people in the forums, did you forget all the evil shit Housen is responsible for? Just to make a quick example, he was going to kill the kid and all the ladies if Gintoki would have failed to stop him. He even said so himself. But sure, he had a change of heart at the end and now we should all feel sorry for him, right? Fuck that. Let Housen die like the pig he is. You're all hypocrites if you feel sorry for him.

Kagura was by far the best part about this arc.

I feel exactly the same way. Why should I feel sorry for a stupid piece of shit who enslaved, raped and killed thousands of innocent women simply because he couldn't go out in the sun? That bastard deserved a way worse death.

Fair to say Gintoki is close to that of the King in strength? Of course, physically he can't keep up because he's a human, but still, when it comes to just fighting. Pretty good ending I suppose. This is my new favorite arc, for sure.

Showing the reasons for his fucked up personality and acts isn't trying to force simpathy, but I guess that's too much to comprehend for entitled folks these days who snap at everything that's out of their own little bubble...

It was a great scene showing how messed up the Yato are and what they become because of their blood and power-centric way of living. This is what Kagura is struggling against, this arc was incredible for her character.

MAL forums are just epic lol.

Yeah I definitely can't feel sympathetic with a character like Hosen but understanding his past and how he became the way he is, I thought was done well.
His monologue at the end was fantastic.
There's no way the writers even tried to make you symphatize with Hosen, everyone knows what he's done.
I wonder if Hosen being out of the picture is enough for these women to be free though.

A lot of development for Kagura and the Yato clan aswell, definitely curious to see more from them.

Solid SOLID arc!

Out of all the languages in the world, you chose to speak F A C T S.

One one hand, I appreciate the show's consistency in fleshing out the antagonists; I'd rather see the intent behind their actions than just watch "evil-for-the-luls" baddies with no rhyme or reason to their actions.

But still, having Hinowa comfort Housen ---the man who kidnapped her as a child, slashed her ankles, killed Seita's mother, and condemned countless women to a living nightmare---- was a pretty messed up plot decision.

Thankfully there are plenty of golden moments (i.e. Kagura and Tsu) to make up for the weaker point of the arc

Ah the golden meme about the manga and anime situation xD Thanks Gin.
Well, this was one of the best arcs. There were some really stupid moments but most of it was LEGENDARY stuff

And that kid could somehow use a PC while he probably never touched a PC in his whole life. And it was that easy to open up the thing? Even though it's fucking dangerous for the Yato clan members lol. Well whatever.

It was epic!

Fortunately the strategy to open the roof worked against Housen, he could taste the sun for the first and last time of his life... though I would say the little flashback moments with Hinowa were quite emotional, but not RIP to this guy since he was awful.

poor, poor Hinowa... she was already so pure, innocent and sweet as a kid even despite beatings and future slavery. And yes, i'll try to avoid writing about how much it was infuriating to discovery of her severed tend... whatever, i'll do it and that's final. I had no problem in watching the guy killed by the sun, as in "oh, yes, how ironic your death is... suffer... suffer..." even if i saw more satisfying death of hated characters before and i was overall calm in thinking those words.

Good arc overall, of course (Kagura going berserk was ... damn, and i liked Gintoki speech about drinking with friends where, just for a change, there was once again Otae beating up Kondo), even if i'll always prefer unrestricted funny 4th wall destroyer Gintama instead of the serious plots. And of course, i knew that hysterical meta cold opening with the arrows describing manga and anime adaptation trying to keep up at the same pace was going to arrive at some point because i watched it before on Watchmojo. It came before i expected and in a unpredictable episode... but it was welcome even because there was somehow a need to lighten up the mood.

This arc should have ended this episode but judging from the preview, I guess we have at least one more left. Anyways this was a pretty intense arc. I guess this arc had little comedy and more serious battles as compared to the other arcs. Anyways I pretty much loved it and I guess this serves as a good introduction to a new character.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.
