@jbm71 It's already on my watchlist ^^ I don't have to watch DYRL to know I'll love it. I could watch it right now tbh, but I want to finish the series first.

Very good episode and the backround music fitted so well.

But fuck,earth was annihilated.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

Hands down the best episode so far. Almost felt like a finale, and there are still 9 more episodes to go.

So I guess this is the episode they were saving money and all those eyeballs for. Right in the first shot, the Macross had so much detail and shading, that it was almost unrecognisable. Even Minmay looked good this time around.
Although, it's hard to believe she actually loves that hippie, especially after how she reacted when he kissed her. It never looked like she liked him any more than just as a cousin.

And can't believe the entire surface of the earth got pretty much sterilized. That was actually horrifying to watch. So, if everyone on earth have really been wiped out, Macross is now like humanity's ark. Good thing they never dropped off all those refugees.
But all this makes me wonder if Stephen Hawking is right after all about carelessly broadcasting our existence and trying to contact aliens, because we might run into a warmongering race like the Zentradis, with a culture and outlook towards life completely opposite to that of ours. Just because a civilization has advanced technologically, doesn't necessarily mean they have done so socially and philosophically too.

Well goddamn, that was a really good episode. Without a doubt my favorite ep thus far. It was kinda dumb, sure, but it was so entertaining it's hard to get too caught up on that. Also the tone Macross has never ceases to amuse me. Something horrific will happen and the specifics of just how awful everything is will just get completely glossed over, but even so it's not bothersome much at all haha
The war was over surprisingly quick though...? The pacing never bothered me at any point, but some part of me's disappointed the climax has already come and gone. It's weird there's still a couple episodes left for some reason too. They really should've ended it here imo This would've made for a fantastic finale ep.

Holy crap that was intense. Macross is from 1982, but damn that animation was amazing.

With the episode itself, I thought the power of song was going to be used to stop the war, but it was instead weaponized to paralyze the Zentraedi main fleet. I'm not sure if that was inline with the show's apparent original intent. Also, the Earth was obliterated while the Zentraedi were left devastated. While the main characters main it through relatively well enough, so much was lost in this fight. Also, I have no idea who Minmay will end up with at the end, and she seems hesitant on settling with anyone. Is it ironic for the girl singing about love, peace, and end to conflict, a return to the Earth, and, at the end, sad loneliness as everyone leaves her behind, to be the one forefronting the entire fight, leading the Macross to victory despite all that was lost? There's still a number of episodes left, so I have no idea where the show can go from here.

This episode was pretty damn epic Minmay's songs playing the background while they defeat the enemy leader.

On another note she really like tonguing down Kaifun hope you enjoy your underdeveloped incest babies you two.

How can be this be the finale when Minmay stayed one dimensional. She was so shallow as a character. But Kaifun is clearly worse, he was merely a plot device to make an ecxuse so that Minmay and Hikaru can't be together. He and Minmay lacks substance. I hope they can still get some development to be more likeable, at least for me.
While Hikaru and Misa were already developed. There are still episodes left I hope they dont force Hikaru x Minmay ending. And I don't think Misa X Kaifun is a good idea.

This was truly epic. Left me speechless. The Earth was actually annihilated wow! Animation was especially great this episode, Tatsunoko really went all out with this one.

Only thing I didn't like is (as usual) Kaifun. I'm kinda surprised Minmay is in love with him. Wasn't she seeing Hikaru in him until few episodes ago? Did she lie for some reason or what? Weird. Wonder how all this will develop from now on.

This episode blew my mind! Up to this point the show has been quite predictable and cliche so while I was really hoping for the twist of Hayase and Ichijou getting together I honestly didn't expect it and even teared up in the end.

The only thing I did not like is: Kaifun, really? Maybe it was petty of me to hope that Minmay would be dumped and have her heart broken because of how childish she's been acting, didn't like that she basically ended up being the one rejecting our protagonist for her own cousin. I guess in the end though these two ultra-obnoxious characters really deserve each other.

It also felt strange to me because the whole show they've tried so hard to make it appear as if Minmay is pushing Kaifun away and ACTUALLY loves Ichijou, but apparently that was just bait for the twist?

It was also really surprising to see most if not all of the earth whiped out, a lot of great twists this time around which definitely made up for some of the duller episodes.

Glad that at least there seems to be a consesnsus about the awesomeness of this episode :D Visually incredible and noticeable from the first seconds, when Macross is shown with all those additional details. And, just as expected, love won...kinda, as the Earth is in ashes. But I'm glad that Misa x Hikaru is finally a thing :p Expected them to kiss actually. Did not expect Hikaru and Minmay to kiss though!
Despite the tragic events of this episode, I was sitting with a big grin on my face, because seeing all this destruction with Minmay's songs in the background was so conflicting emotionally...but I'm satisfied.
I can only wonder what's going to happen in the upcoming episodes.

"Damn you, Protoculture!"

P.S. "Love drifts away" is surely the best song, especially for this episode. Also, according to ANN, Ishiguro was the episode director here (so he did more things than in other episodes), and Anno did key animation! I wonder what cuts are specifically his. Plus Kawamori was doing "supervision", not sure what that's supposed to mean. Anyway, very "mecha porn-ish" episode.

P.P.S. According to sakugabooru (I don't know their source though) these are Anno's cuts:

From another episode:

There're others as well listed here, but I won't watch them since they're from later episodes, it seems

Am I supposed to be proud of this

I am actually pretty fascinated by people who rewatch stuff, since I've never done that, neither for shows nor for movies. I might return to some specific moments that I enjoy very much, but not the entire work. Maybe it's just that I remember stories well, or that I have enough of other things I want to watch so they have a higher priority, but that's how it is.

The most stunning episode of the series. What a fantastic finale ! (aside from the Misa/Minmei semi-resolution)

5/5 Oh, wait...

Damn they totally annihilated the Earth before it was even cool. Seriously amazing and the best ep of the series tho, I liked the development of the characters, the direction was spot-on and the animation and art were the best I've seen so far in this show. 5/5

This is one of best episodes I've watched in anime general. Didn't expect the aliens went full-scale extermination, quite gruesome to watch.

Wow, one of the best episodes of all anime I've watched. Action, love, music, moral message (protoculture!) - what an arc closure! I wonder what they're gonna do in the rest of the series.

In general I like the love drama very much in this series.

Holy shit, that was insane. The quality of the entire episode was on a level far beyond almost every other TV anime, ever!
And the craziest part is that we can still say this in 2022, almost 40 years later!

The best part was Hikaru letting go of Minmay. Finally some real character development in an anime!

This truly felt like the quintessential anime episode - not only Macross, but anime in general. The space battles, the love vs war message, the bittersweet confessions, the songs. Perfect. This was definitely the climax of the series, and I guess we'll be seeing a long epilogue from now on!

I'd probably kill myself if fucking kyun kyun came on over the speaker while I was trying to fight.

I feel pretty bad for the Zentradi, most of them died the first time they got bricked up, not fun.

Also, did the showrunners forget they had another 9 timeslots? Better than dragging the conflict out like every other mecha show does, tho. Idk what the next episodes will focus on, hope it's interesting and not some bullshit.
