i think this was the most enjoyable arc for me so far and 2nd would be makotos. it was done quite well when I think back at how they foreshadowed it with the reference to cinderella. I LOVE FORESHADOW...makes the story deeper.

So glad there was a kiss involved even if it was on the cheek, it completed the arc for me to see a lot of romance between them :]

So sad, teary eyes yet again......

Dancing part was funny indeed!

Kaori acknowledging her sister on the day she died.... I find it a bit to late ;(
I guess she will regret it big time!

Good thing that Yuuichi made her day wonderful, I am glad! :D

So damn sad! Kanon succeeds at making me both happy and extremely depressed in short periods of time.

Really glad they didn't show her cutting herself though, I thought I was going to be sick if she had, that's the reason why the ending to Shuffle! was hard for me to watch.

I hate that she ran off like that. This episode was like a very quick changing roller coaster, I was sad, then I was laughing my but off, then Sad again, then happy, then hoping for some romance, then worried and sad again. gah! You'd think i was on drugs or something LOL

Eh. The ending to this arc was lame, namely the part at the fountain. She just ran off? Where the hell did she go? :l unless she like...disappeared into the sky or crawled off into a bush and died, it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense.

And was it just me, or was it confusing that he suddenly looked at her butt-print, gasped, and suddenly had some grand revelation and ran off to find the note?

Meh, that's what happens when they adapt a route that focuses too much on the romance in an almost exact form and then go "Oh shit, how do we stop the arc without going into full-on romance". In this part is where Shiori leaves him because any further than that point her health was supposed to fail further and he'd be tending to a dying girl (by this point Yuuichi is basically in-love with her). If you take it in the form that she wants to spare him the pain of watching his most precious one slowly die it makes sense. If you just watch it as the usual Key protagonist who just happened to be a nice guy to her then it makes no sense for her to dissapear so relentlessly, and it also ends anticlimactly because the scene where you find out she's alive is told at the very end of the route, which obviously can't be used because it's the clinching Shiori/Yuuichi scene too. They merely went with an off-comment from her sister saying "she's getting better" which just goes "oh.....wait what?" in your head.

Instead of using the "romantic" scenes between Yuuichi and Shiori they should have focused more on restoring the relationship between the sisters and rather than being so loyal to the material they should have finished the arc with a little "time skip" showing her improvement in the hospital as Kaori tended to her. Just "hearing" she was better was a cop-out.

Wow, so this is end of Shiori's arc then? That was really sudden. I hope the next episode leaves a better conclusion. Her name is mentioned in the preview, but it looks like Yuuichi is crying.

Aya/Nayuki arc next, and i've been waiting for that for awhile. I wonder what Aya's thing about her will be. She's obviously homeless, I don't see any other explanation. I assume there will be more to it though. Is she going to end up being a fairy or an angel, like her wings? I can't wait to find out!

That....was probably the best arc in Kanon so far. Almost got emotional there, especially when Shiori asked "was I smiling the whole time?" trying her best not to cry.

Unlike the previous two arcs, this arc makes you emotional without the show trying too hard or going overboard with what the characters do. Although, I wonder, why can't they have Mai heal use her powers to heal Shiori.

Just an epic episode, with these more episodes they really brought more emotions to the sisters and her bday and a surprise for me that Jun got a funny role in it!

The main story is still ongoing but the additional things are really great in it!

There were some nice feel good vibes from this arc, but nothing serious unfortunately. The end of the last episode was a bit misleading to me and I thought there would be something a little more deep coming out of it, but it disappointed me.

She's supposed to have lost them (at least temporarely) after almost dying. It's kind of one of those inevitable situations you run into in this kind of adaptations because, for example, if Yuuichi befriended Shiori in the game he couldn't have known about Mai's powers (or befriended her to begin with). Trying to make several routes mesh together without bringing along plot holes is kind of hard.

That should answer the question for many people.

This episode, along with many others, had me in tears. There was one particular scene that caught me off guard and really hit a certain place in my heart.

I had to go back and rewatch this scene just to take it all in. Really powerful, especially to people who have been through it. Damn, Key. Really amazing episode, I wish it was explained what happened to her at the end, but her character description explains it well enough. Glad to see she didn't die.

ok maybe I've lived a super drama free life but who the heck is surrounded by so many people all with super depressing stories. I mean honestly every person except for Nayuki and her mom has some super depressing life going on, and somehow Yuuichi makes friends with all of them (gonna guess that Ayu has some really depressing story since she was one of the first characters introduced and yet hasn't had her own arc yet, also the fact that they talk about her dreams in the beginning of every episode). Seriously at some point if I was Yuichi I would stop making friends, having to go through that many depressing situations would probably start to turn you suicidal.

That was sad, the arc was better than I thought it would be, too bad it seemed a bit short, but I'm happy they made up in the end. There might still be chance that she recovers, I hope they'll show it if she survives.

So it's time for Nayuki and Ayu, I'm hoping for the best. They are my favorites, especially Ayu. I hope it won't be so sad...though what the hell am I really expecting with Key, huh? :/
I also hope that it won't be a fight between the girls, I really don't wanna see that :/

NAAAANNNN!! SHIORI! I still have fate, she may not be dead, right? :'(

In any case, it was a great episode. Yuuichi did great at the party, even if it was really awkward when Kaori showed up. His dance with Kitagawa was hilarious! xD

It was really a beatiful scene at the fountain. I like how the color of the fountain were changing the mood of the scene. And god, that letter at the end, I just hope it's not a definitive farewell. The Yuuichi said ''happy birthday, Shiori'' broke my heart :(

Now I guess it will be 3 episodes for Nayuki arc and 3 episodes for Ayu arc. It look like Nayuki's in love with Kitagawa, because she said that he doesn't seem to have noticed it and then we saw him. Anyway, I really wanna know what hides behind Ayu lies. She must have some good reason to lie to Yuuichi like that. Also what happened on that hill seven years ago. Did she nearly die due to Yuuichi? We see him doing CPR, did a miracle happened?

Wow... wow. I wasn't feeling this arc or Shiori much at all until this episode. What a beautiful, memorable episode this was. Hilarious at some points and unbelievably touching at others. I was in a state of shock when Shiori kissed Yuuichi; that was so cute! Gah... not only do I suddenly find myself in love with Shiori, but I seriously hope a miracle pulls through somehow.

It can't quite beat episode 10, but it's one of the best episodes in the series for sure. Poor Shiori...

While I do have to admit that KyoAni ended this off remarkably, leaving a kind of sad but happy note to it, I personally prefered the scenario in Toei's version in which Shiori settled with Kaori by the fountain instead of the birthday party, at midnight too. That was highly unforgettable, despite the absence of drama and everything was just outright rushed. Surprisingly, I teared for the 2002 version and not this.

Additionally, the penknife situation was only mentioned at the very end for the 2006 remake, something I am quite disappointed with the new KyoAni version. The penknife in 2002 actually served as a foreshadow to the future events, hence I would admit that for Shiori's arc, both the 2002 and 2006 had their negatives and that the 2002 wins in plot, the 2006 wins in drama and development.

Yes, I have to mention the power of ambiguity in this episode's end. Really, unlike the 2002 version, this end left a greater impression as it can be easily viewed that Shiori is really saying farewell, or just that she doesn't want to hurt Yuuichi. 5/5

one of the best episodes i've seen in kanon~ it was a true work of art and tells a lot about sisters , since kaori is my favorite character (i'm weird i know) like i said since kaori is my fav i loved her role here it's like (ahh she's gonna die , i need my little sister) it was a great persona changes the party was awesome , yuuichi and jun were so funny and shiori's expressions at the end was great , as far as i've seen it made me a little bit yuuichi/shiori shipper (although ayu is my first choice). great episode anyway...

So there's a general rule in shows / anime, if you don't see a person actually die (take their last breath) they're most likely not dead.
Anyhow, this arc didn't really do anything for me. - Who the hell goes outside in the winter when they're terminally ill ... Kaori also didn't help considering she didn't want to accept the fact that Shiori was going to die and basically just ignores her as her sister.

As I understood it: there was the print of her basket hext to that of Shiori's butt, but she didn't need to take the basket with her if she was only going for a drink. That made him realize that she wasn't coming back.

SHE DIDN'T FUCKING DIE, GOD BLESS THE US AND A!!

"A week before Shiori's birthday, she gets permission from her doctor to attend school for a week just like a normal student. Even after getting the chance to go to school for a week, Kaori still avoids Shiori as much as she can, not wanting to have to experience the pain that Shiori's death will bring if she ends up dying. For Shiori's birthday, Yuichi decides to throw her a birthday party the day before her official birthday at a local café and invites several others to join. While Kaori does not show up at the start of the party, she later shows up which completely changes the mood of the party. Afterwards, Kaori finally decides to accept Shiori as her younger sister which makes Shiori happier than she had been in recent months.
The rest of the night is spent at Shiori's favorite place in town: next to a very large fountain in the park. Shiori tells him that night something she neglected to say about the day they first met. That day, Shiori was planning to kill herself by slitting her wrists with a box cutter but after meeting Yuichi and Ayu on her way home from the grocery store, she could not go through with it and wanted to meet both of them again. After a kiss between the two, Shiori falls unconscious in Yuichi's arms; in the 2006 anime series, she leaves to get a drink and disappears. After this point, Shiori is taken back to the hospital and Kaori does not come to school during this time. At the end of the story, Shiori miraculously heals and is not in danger of dying anymore. She confesses to Yuichi in tears that she never wanted to die, and that she was only trying to be strong during those difficult times." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Kanon_characters#Shiori_Misaka]

So... thanks to some asshat, was spoiled by Shiori's eventual *good* end, but can't be too mad seeing as Shiori's arc was so damn good and it would be a pity to kill her off due to mYsTerIOus illness.

When she asked if she looked happy, I died inside.

Damn, I'm proud of myself for not letting out a tear this time.

Shiori was a fantastic character to the very end. A few questionable moments albeit, this was a great arc.

Kaori's pain is understandable but, as an elder sibling, she ought to have faced reality more earnestly, in my honest opinion.

Anyhow, it's time for the remaining two girls now, I suppose. I wonder if Mai-san will return in due time...

I dunno, maybe at least try asking Mai for help lol

Didn't Mai specifically tell Yuuichi that she couldn't do anything to help? I assume that means her powers are temporarily dormant (though having a scene where Yuuichi explicitly asks her for help healing Shiori and she says she can't would have been nice.)

Poor Shiori. I would have loved to see a little of Makoto's and Mai's time donated so that Shiori could have received a fuller treatment. The attempted suicide was sad, but it came a little too far out of left field to really hit home.

So all's well that ends well eh? I don't buy the "Shiori is dead" goodbye note at the end, felt too abrupt and unfulfilling

So, is this the end of the Shiori arc ? I didn't expect it to end like that, I wonder if she's really going to die or not. I don't really know which outcome I would like, though. After everything this arc has been, it'd feel a bit wasted if a miracle truly occured, but at the same time, I wouldn't like for her to die, that'd be too pessimistic, especially since we already lost Makoto. So I don't know, but I'm curious to see how this will be handled.

Aside from that, this was a nice arc, the topic has been covered very nicely (though I couldn't help but find Kaori's attitude sometimes a bit exaggerated), and I like Shiori's character, she was very touching which is part of why I wouldn't like to see her die.
What surprised me was to find out that she attempted to cut her veins, I didn't expect for something like that to be explicitly mentionned and I expected even less for it to be shown, even if she didn't actually do it. Compared to Air (which already handled some heavy topics with Misuzu) and Clannad (not including After Story of course), this is definitely the show handling the most serious topics.

An interesting thing, is that this time this arc had nothing to do with Yuuichi abandoning someone, though it's still related to the feeling of loneliness with Kaori ignoring Shiori. I wonder what this will all lead to.
Unless this arc isn't actually over and next episode will conclude it (which I doubt, even if we'll obviously get an update on Shiori's condition I don't see what else they can do with her character after this episode), the next one will probably be about Nayuki, which intrigues me considering we barely got any foreshadowing compared to the other girls.

This was some downright ridiculous writing. She's ill right, then why she's roaming outside in a zero degree-midnight hour at a park of all places.

Also cramming this all in just three to four episodes was always a doomed choice to begin with when it could've been a bit more had they not spent those first ten episodes over Makoto. Don't even want to mention just how obnoxious Kaori was throughout this arc.

Couldn't care less about that note in the end, as this arc failed to invoke any sort of sentimental emotions for me and this is me being brutally honest.
