| The series seems cliche to me. The first was good, had a good start off, though it was slow, but that's is to be expected and hope Megumi comes back alive and more ppl disappear. ^^ |

| I hate the character design of this show; the whole time I was watching I was thinking about how I am going to drop this show - BUT... By the end of the show I thought the story came together very well and i am looking forward to where this series is heading. The beginning started developing the atmosphere very well and I felt torn out of it by the OP; the music was good, but I thought the OP itself was silly. Anyways, I'll be watching this series for a while more. |
| Finally the show I've been looking forward to the most ... and it didn't disappoint me . Probably lots of people will drop this due to the slow-pacing ... oh well , if the producers keep loyal to the manga, this is definitely going to be easily the best show of this summer . | Agreed, the OP was jarring. What I really liked was the direction/animation of the episode. Starting with the end and retelling what happened up to that point is a fresh way to tell a story - not the first time it's used of course, but I'm so used to anime shows that simply pile scene after scene without even thinking about the best way to tell the story. The art didn't bother me particularly, neither good or bad really. Neither did the slower pace. I wasn't bored. One of the more promising shows I've seen this season for sure. |
| I have no idea if I'm the only one thinking this, but I loved Megumi. Such a cold hearted person, I love her. And I love the show, too. So creepy and slow-paced, but in a good way. | I just finished watching the first episode of Shiki, and I was pretty impressed. I wasn't sure what to make of this series from the trailers, but I loved how the story unfolded. The animation, (especially the opening theme), was fresh, trippy, and colorful, and it definitely kept my attention. As for the other characters...both Toshio and Seishin seem interesting, but I'll need to see more of them to generate a proper analysis. Anyways, I'll keep watching this as well, and I'm eagerly awaiting this mystery to be unraveled! |
| i'm gonna have to agree with everyone about the char design. :[ i really loved megumi's design when i saw the summer line-up, but kaori's hair just makes me cringe lmao. THAT'S A POKEMON HAIRSTYLE, COME ON.( this can't always be a bad thing though keke ) aside from that, i loved itttt. idk why everyone keeps saying it's "slow". for its first episode, it's got a pretty bangin' pace. :T |

| Personally, I enjoy the style and design and all that, though that's probably since I read almost all of Fujisaki's manga and got sorta attached to that art style. The flappy blockyness of the hair is cute in my eyes. The episode was pretty well paced to me. It did give a slow feel, but that's just 'cause of all the introduction stuff. Didn't leave me bored at any point. I've already read the manga, so I already know what's gonna happen, so that sorta cut out some of the foreboding feel of the ep for me. I don't see any similarity between Shiki and Higurashi or Ookami Kakushi (beside the setting)! Higurashi's not much of a horror (more of a confusing semi-tragic romantic blood bashing filled comedy) and Ookami's just...yeah. So to me, Shiki is the horrorishest of them all! I'm really looking forward to the next episodes~ |
| I'm usually completely turned off by horror anime, but Shiki was done very well. Megumi is one crazy girl, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. She's really interesting too. |

| This is like the antithesis of HOTD in every single way. The character design, atmosphere, and pacing all stood out to me. I'm looking forward to more, and if Megumi happens to come back to life(just guessing), I really hope she's not as annoying. |
| Underwhelmed by the first episode. It was slow moving and not very interesting until the very end. There's still some promise and I'm curious enough to follow it for at least the next couple of episodes. |

| As a fan of the manga, I'm sorta pleased with the first ep. It was a bit slow in comparison, but I love seeing it animated. I actually like the art style of the series, and it's much better with color, though the manga was definitely creepier in black/white. The OP floored me for real, though. omg Buck Tick~ |

| It's not that slow paced! The atmosphere was set quite nicely and the main character died... What do you expect of first episode? O.o If you want slow paced, watch Monster. I like slow paced shows though. Gives you time to think about it. And I already love the atmosphere on this series, give me epi 2 please! =3 |

Just one thing: What the fuck is up with Kaori's dog? Seriously, that thing was among the creepiest things this episode. >_< |
| great first episode! much better then i anticipated! the atmosphere, the music and the visuals fit perfectly! the blonde girl was damn scary..her eyes creep me out like HELL! could become my #1 anime of the season. im a huge fan of asian horror flicks n ive seen 100+ of them and this series delivers to my taste. |

O.o The only actually known ones (known=good in this case, heard most of the others too though) are Tomatsu Haruka, Okamoto Nobuhiko and Gackt, and the two second don't even get main roles : < (Ah well maybe Takagi Wataru as well, but.. Still not a main.) Funny how the only main role with a big name dies pretty quickly. Then again, a main role... I'd find it strange to leave such a character dead, so w/e. I mean, the manga started 07/08, when Higurashi had really become famous, and coincidentaly they both (Higurashi and Shiki) run in a magazine run by Square Enix...that's just a bit too much for an accident. For the manga they changed some events around, made everything a bit more focused on dark romanticism, put the younger characters in the spotlight and gave everything that dichotomic 'cute anime vs. horror' look that everyone loved on Higurashi. I really like Shiki's story for what it is, but somehow I can't get warm with the manga/anime designs. |

| like the 1st eps, its been awhile I try to watch horror show... love the chara design (but hate dat ugly blue nekomimi) 22 mins feels long, but very enjoyable not feel boring. But its kinda disturb me, because this show is very un-Noitamina like >_> |

| Wasn't planning on watching this until I read the manga a couple of weeks ago, and got hooked. Okay for the first episode. I was seriously expecting Haruka to sound like Eiko from "Ichiban..." for some reason, LOL. Only now does it click that her voice can get that high ala Yunyun from "Canaan". There is ONE scene that I am both not looking forward to AND looking forward to XD I'll probably skip it in the end, just because I am THAT much of a chicken XD I'm especially curious as to where they are going to end the anime =^.^= And yeah, Yuuki is a HUGE asshole>_> |

| Nice episode. I think the character design has its own unique compared to other anime presented up-to-date. I actually feel a bit irritated by Megumi but on the other hand quite like her a bit.@_@ I actually didn't saw her dead coming though.o-o Hope the animation producers don't create their own storyline to end the series( I haven't read the manga though but I think it might ruin the series if it create an original ending instead of following the manga ending.) Off topic: btw, does anyone know if the manga going to end already or still no sign of ending? |

| Fuyumi Ono sure knows how to write disgustingly annoying female characters. Yoko at the beginning was extremely annoying (though she became kickass). Mai from Ghost Hunt is head-bashingly annoying, persistently. And now Megumi. Since she's a main character, she's probably going to return... from the dead. or whatever. | Haters gonna hate on the best anime of the season. I actually like the character designs, but it seems many people do not. The designs stick close to the manga designs, and I like that. And what was slow paced about this episode? It is the first episode after all. It's better if it's slow than rushed in my opinion. I also noticed how many people are not going to watch this anime because the vampire part is a turn off. I gave it a shot and I really liked it. Plus the horror part stood out and I love my horror no matter what. Now I'm reading the manga and I hope I catch up before I leave. |

| I wasn't planning on watching this show but I wanted to see if this was good out of the few lineups this season. I'm still not sure though. This episode confused me in a lot of aspects, like the dates and the names of the characters just keep popping out. The main characters stand out so I remember them, they're hard to miss with those colorful hairs. Character design is kinda good though the dog is pretty ugly. Animation and sounds are excellent. I'm curious about the story since it sets up a lot of things here. Let's see what's gonna happen in the next episodes. |
