Wow, that was very different from everything Monogatari has given us so far, and makes a drastic contrast with the previous arc, but that was pretty amazing. The art was beautiful, it reminded me quite a bit of Castlevania, and Deathtopia appears to be a very interesting character. I have no idea where this will go other than the supposition that Deathtopia will most likely be the one to turn Acerola into a vampire, but I find the duality between Deathtopia's monstrusosity and Acerola's humanity fascinating, especially for the ambiguity behind it : Deathtopia is a monster in every way, yet she has very human weaknesses, to the point of dying the very same way everyone else died when seeing Acerola. And as for Acerola, she's profoundly human, but a soul so beautiful that it becomes destructive, because it feels so surreal, so unlike anything any human has ever been like. And consequently, she becomes just as terrifying as a monster.

To be honest the one thing I'm not too sure of for now is this whole thing about Acerola being this ridiculously beautiful, not only because she doesn't exactly come off as such (don't get me wrong, she comes off as a very sweet girl, just not to THAT degree), but also because I don't really get what it could bring out for her arc compared to every other character being so easily relatable, which includes Kiss Shot/Shinobu herself. It just feels off, but I wonder if this isn't on purpose. If what I said about the ambiguity between Deathtopia's "monstruosity" and Acerola's "humanity" isn't meant to be discussed in such manner.
After all, one thing that prevents me from seeing Acerola as this angelic soul is that the reason she wishes to find a soul to save is an inherently selfish one : she's trying to find salvation. This does fit with her development as Kiss Shot and Shinobu, as a being who so deeply regrets the deaths she brought that she tried to find salvation and peace in every way possible, to the point of becoming even more destructive, as shown in Kizu with her treatment of Araragi while desperatly wishing to die or in Shinobu Mail where she covered her fear of confronting her subject under a false sense of kindness and protection.
What I mean is that maybe, by becoming a vampire, the ambiguity of her character which was always there but expressed in a completely different manner would truly come out ? I could really be completely wrong, but I found this aspect interesting and I'm curious to see if this will be explored.

Recommended to watch 6.5 for more context on Shinobu's "power". But damn are we finally getting it; Shinobu's backstory and not just any backstory, it's THE backstory to all backstories we have seen thus far of Shinobu. This is what peak looks like.

Holy shit that was peak.
Monogatari is my favourite series of all time, and also the least reccomendable series of all time. The sheer agony of not being able to witness awe on peoples faces due the the events in nisemonogatari and monogatari second season really annoy me.
But on the other hand, the show auto gatekeeping itself is probably a good thing.

The episodes feel new (which of course they are) but still have the same familiar monogatari sense about them. It's hard to explain, but they just feel right.

Loved this episode! We're finally getting into the back-story of Shinobu before she lost most of her powers in present day. Also, I always wondered where the "Acelera Orion" name came from but now I see why.

This episode really emphasizes how Shaft is just on a completely different level than every other studio. Like this is legit one of the best episodes in the entire series.

Even after 10 years these glowing yellow eyes pierce right into my soul, every single time.

In Zoku Owari Kiss-Shot was so beautiful you would die from seeing here, here there is a princess who essentially has the same effect.

Also digging that style.

The era of Shaft is so back.

PS: I feel like seeing Kizumonogatari for the first time again. Every frame is so captivating. I could frame the screenshots and put them on my wall, but I would run out of space..

The usage of more electro OST in this season is a nice surprise.

Watched this very late since I had to move during this period and wanted to see this when completely free of any work. This was such a good episode that plays off the special well, and has a very unique feel for a Monogatari story while still feeling like a Monogatari story. The medieval aesthetic is such a good fit visually with this. Stunning episode visually but the content also lives up to the bill too in creating something very interesting, and a dramatic shift in tone and identity from the previous arc with Nadeko. In a way, these two arcs are significantly different but are great fits with the franchise, which is partly telling to how excellent this franchise really is. Also, these names for vampires like Suicide-Master are quite crazy to say the least, and the series manages to do a great job in making these names so over-the-top without somehow being too corny nor comedic in how it feels. Shinobu's backstory being presented here is a welcome addition to the anime and is good to unlock one of the more hidden elements in the series with the story being showcased this time around.

Episode 6.5 caught my interest, but I wasn't expecting such a drastic shift from the first half of the season. The art, music and vibe in episode 7 is unmatched. I had chills watching the whole episode.

Love the voice actor for Death-prepared, Death-inevitable, Death-certain Deathtopia Virtuoso Suicide-Master too.

Excited for next week to learn more of the origins of Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade.

I love their names so much

HOOOOOOOLYYYYY!!!! Ansolutely phenomenal!

This episode is by far the best one of this season. The way SHAFT just captures that medieval aesthetic is so fresh and unique. Also the color palette that is used, is probably my favorite ever used in monogatari. The darker, eery tones of the color and just the great soundtrack. Mmhmmmm. Can't wait to see next episode.

Best episode since the films, in my opinion. Just pure magic - the cinematography and soundtrack sent shivers through my spine with some of those absolutely gorgeous scenes. I wish they could always keep it at this level.

Last arc was weak as fuck compared to this, as I fell asleep several times just trying to get through it.

This episode is a 7/5! We learn about Kiss-Shot's origins and about the one who possible may have turned her into a vampire—Deathtopia Virtuoso Suicide-Master! Honestly, the progenitor looks so thin, it must be because of her dietary way of living. Now we all know where Kiss-Shot got her principle of eating the victim she killed. From her master! There's so many similarities between the two of them that made me deduce that Deathtopia Virtuoso Suicide-Master is definitely Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Underblade's infectee. So Acerola was originally cursed with the Beauty curse. Interesting to know! This was a really fun episode, and I'm kinda simping for Deathtopia!

Here are photos of Deathtopia :3

Deathtopia IMG 6 shows the Master and the Servant. Honestly, peak fiction!

Oh, that's a sudden change of ambiance now with this new arc about Shinobu's backstory, it feels like we're in Kizumonogatari, anyway I like the movie aspect of it and the story so far seems interesting, how she's making a deal with this princess who got cursed to be so beautiful that people are literally dying and killing themselves near her, wonder how it will develop later.
