Nice detail in the opening when minato passes by chinu now she has a serious face instead of the smiley face from previous episodes, because of the revelation of the hatred towards minato

Overall this show is more drama than sport, i hope we get at least another match in the upcomings eps lul

Saw that coming when he bonked his head again. I was hoping it wouldn't happen, but it did. Fuck old Minato, what an ass. I kinda like how they handle the loss of memories and the consequences of it, but from a writing perspective, it's pretty bullshit that he lost his new memories just when he regained his old ones lmao, and he probably will regain it again for the second time eventually. But still, it's a pretty good show and I am looking forward to how they'll deal with this new Minato.

Rip to the Chinu and Minato ship though.

Hmm this second time losing his memory I find it a bit far-fetched, I don't know what to think...
I had already started to like the series, but now this doesn't convince me xd

Now the team is in trouble, although I feel that Minato will join in the end anyway

Agree, I don't like these turn of events. It seems farfetched and too melodramatic.
I liked the more grounded feeling the show had before this ep.

I think having Minato experience amnesia TWICE is a bit much. Just finding out that he used to be a horrible person was shocking and impactful enough - adding his loss of memories over the past year to become an awful person again is just overkill

Agreed, realising he has to not only just catch back up and surpass to who he was as a water polo player but also surpass his past self as a person and make sure he doesn't let himself become like that again was a plenty interesting turn as it was.
Also the team was already fighting an uphill battle do they really need another wrench in the works to overcome. Is there even going to be time for them to play any more than a single proper game of water polo !?

Exactly! The twist that he was a terrible person before was enough of a plot twist cause I sure as hell didn't see that coming. It would've been more interesting to explore how he feels about discovering that about himself.

I also agree about the time thing - there just isn't enough episodes left in the season for this storyline to play out. MAPPA really missed the mark with this one!

I'm just gonna say it, this amnesia thing doesn't do much for the story. I never liked it and now it makes the story all the more jumbled. And this personality change ruins Minato's character. It's all contrived drama for the sake of drama.

Nope. You just like your stories a certain way and it has played out isn't to your liking. My only problem is that they didn't transition the switch elegantly enough. They could have made it subtle.

So, it's a matter of preferences.

I never expected Minato's old self to be my own serious side. Aside from the arrogance, that is.
I don't have a "I'm not teaming up with you losers, because I'm too good for you" attitude, but I am strict and I absolutely hate half-assed people.
I'm not the kind of person to beat around the bush either. If I were the captain (or coach) and someone's performance was awful, I wouldn't sugarcoat it. I would outright tell them "That was pathetic. Keep practicing until you get it right".

So, while I'm not a fan of Minato's arrogance and I disagree with his actions, I can definitely understand his frustration. Just like how I understand that his (our, technically) harsh side doesn't just appear out of nowhere.
This is also pretty evident previously in the anime - when Minato thinks he's still in 6th grade. It's like he's a completely different person. Hell, he didn't even recognize himself when he watched the video. At least I grew up with this mentality, but Minato clearly didn't. It makes me wonder what happened between 7-9th grade that made him change in such a drastic way.

No kidding, that made no sense whatsoever, people's growths aren't linear, especially if you have talent. That why a prodigy can do better than someone that has trained 20 years if they only train for 1 year. What a douche. I think he's the one that originally caused Minato to become such an asshole, how could he not in that environment?

The old/new Minato is such a *****. Plus they're really stretching this amnesia trope as far as it can go. Somehow he only loses 3yrs of his memories, then gets them back, then loses his 1yr memories. Is that even possible? I know it's just an anime but it just irks me. They're making him seem like he has multiple personality disorder or something and it's just annoying. If this keeps up I will be dropping my rating. Hope it gets better next week.

It's honestly bothering me to the point where I nearly stopped watching the episode. I know with anime you have to suspend your disbelief a lot of times but this amnesia thing is ridiculous. "We'll make him lose three years of his memory but then make him remember those three years but have him forget the last year." Literally how does any of that make sense???

That's it. This series has officially lost the little sense of direction it had. Now it results that Minato was always an asshole but for some reason, his old teammates, his old coach, Eitarou and especially his family never mentioned anything about his shitty personality. Quite the opposite, actually. Until this episode, everyone seemed to love his previous self and were, in fact, disappointed with the new happy-go-lucky Minato.

Honestly, such an awful episode filled with plot conveniences. Not to mention Chinu can go fuck herself. You hate MC this much only because he hurt your spineless senpai's feelings? Gtfo.

The real MVP is Minato's voice actor who naturally convince me that he really has two personalities.

I think Minato will play again, but for revenge, for everyone that abandon him, by using his new team as his pawn. And that'd make a team's atmosphere unbreathable. But I expect that in the end he'll combine all of his memories.

But one good thing is that now it's unlikely that Minato will date with that girl who I never intend to remember her name. Sports anime must "remain" free from heterosexual relationship at any cost.
that would be a nice change of pace for your typical friendship heavy sports anime and I would love to see that. Also now that I think about it. I don't think I've seen a sports club anime have a relationship, the only one I can think of is clannad where Tomazaki and Nagiza get married, but that's about the drama club.

I liked the little twist last episode that Minato was an asshole before (I don't recall anyone having animosity towards him that would hint at it though but please remind me if there was) but I find him going back to the way he was kind of silly. I don't know how realistic memory loss like this is but I thought the exactly same thing as his dad when he said "does that even happen?" in response. Seems too...plot serving if that makes sense, like realism was abandoned to go this route idk.

damn, just watched this episode and it feels like the course of the entire anime has shifted, and idk how i feel about this change yet.

i can't imagine regaining ur old memories of when u were an asshole, only to then lose ur most recent memories, and then to return to ur past self without the knowledge of how ur shitty behavior is affecting those around u. i mean...

of course it's depressing to see minato act so awful towards his current teammates and his family, since u can see how scared they are of him. it's just bad vibes all around. but i think we'll have to brave through it for that eventual character development, wherein minato will hopefully regain all his memories and grasp some self-awareness of his attitude affecting others in order to grow as a person and not just a water polo player (but also that, since it's a sports anime after all lmao)

even if he doesn't regain his recent memories of the past year, minato has some serious self-growth to attend to and i hope that happens soon instead of furthering this drama. albeit i can't imagine the inner turmoil minato must be facing now, he of course shouldn't be taking it out onto others. hope minato gets the help he needs and is willing to accept it, because that kind of change can't happen overnight.

side note, it's kinda funny how i started this just for a feel-good sports anime and secondhand ambition, but now i'm so emotionally invested in this drama although it's stressful lol.

anyhow, looking forward to the next episode and how it's handled from here on out!

Well, that twist was truly unexpected. I like how the story is turning, it makes it less linear and foreseeable.

I don't think that Minato has necessarily two personalities, what we saw before his second memory loss was just his self before middle school. Some of the experiences he made after that must've turned him into the arrogant asshole we saw in this episode and I hope we'll get to see what made him change so much. Was it one particular situation or has it developed over time? Was it just his ambition to win and his superiority to the other members? I wonder.

I expect that he regains his full memory either next episode or the one after, and him coming back to his lovable personality.

This was so unnecessary........their character development was all playing out so nicely but they just had to overcomplicate the story. And it was executed really badly too. Why is it necessary for Minato to face his previous self head-on it was already a great narrative of him discovering how he was like. This almost screams Golden Time nonsense. And at the very least, just way too much for these last few episodes.

But anyway, poor Minato, I feel so bad for him. I would lose my shit too. How frustrating it must be.....for the people around him too ಥ﹏ಥ

I just wanna say I understand why that chick would be mad at him for how he was and shit but damn girl! He's a completely different person now and you could have helped him be better by trying to understand that and forgive, maybe ask him to apologize or some shit so he can keep being a good guy.
But instead you take the cunt approach and try to hurt this guy as much as you can knowing he's already gone through MAJOR psychological trauma as well as psychical trauma. I'm for sure that helped play a part in him losing his new memories as his mind was already under immense psychological strain and then receiving a blow to the head doesn't help.

I thought the show took how bad brain injuries and psychological trauma can be too easy in the beginning, so this is much more interesting.
But damn bitch, like hasn't the guy been through enough and now he comes to you for help and your like yes let's fuck up this trauma patient even more while he's at his most fragile all for my revenge......lol I hope she sees how his old personality has come back and knows she's helped cause this. I hope your revenge was worth it when instead you could have helped him stay a good guy.

Oh my gosh-- like honestly, I was watching the whole episode saying, "Oh my gosh" the whole time. Like, what's going to happen. Minato's being an asshole, but at the very same time I understand that the situation must be ridiculously frustrating for him. I have fallen off the bike in roughly the same way. If I didn't have my helmet on, I would have been in the hospital. That fall is no joke. He should have been bleeding heavily from it. As for the 2nd amnesia, this is not a unique plot device. I've seen it before.

Regardless of situation, as an athlete I would recognize the team needs me regardless of feelings. He now has his skills back, but it will take time for his destroyed body to catch up to his brain. :)
