Great episode. A lot to digest with many different characters developing through many different plots that are also connected and spanning an unknown amount of time. All I know for sure is that the graduation reveal made this anime even more interesting.

There's a lot of things goin on. More wacky and trippy than the monkey world, for sure. The first attempt that almost break the circle of ''this' world'. Imagine that yourself already thought you win some jackpot, but, you get fooled by someone elses trick. Mad? Sad? Complete depression? That's them there.

Anyway, the principal revealed to be the god, and some stray black giant-ass dog appeared revealing himself as a time traveller student, to their's perspective. This episode using another other worldy place, the movie world, and its own rule, as a device to figure out how to escape from the palm of God's hands. Well, unfortunately, its reach a failure. Try again later, lads. Because i am pretty sure there's always be a way to find the real path. The genuine path of their own future, away from those annoying old man who claims to be the God. Not a copy. Not from the dog and the teacher world. Their own world for the better future. To hell with the others. Could they? I hope Nozomi just be fine even though its hard knowing your future is death. Well, its sure have a lot of possibilities for what is coming next. But, as always i am just gonna say: lets see next for the real next ....

This was the graduation episode. The graduation that happened in real world is a nostalgic memory the students observe from outside, because that life is now inaccessible to them. The real world is now a nostalgic past and the present is now real for them. They have to come to terms with this fact. That the world died. They died. They have to make sense of this new chaotic world in front of them and grasp it firmly with their hands, once they do, the quantum many world state they are experiencing will collapse into a classical world that will become their adulthood.

The director is God, because he gives the children the chance to choose a world, which is a miraculous power.

Narrator says they are no longer needed, because they are no longer part of the world of the young.

Oppai-sensei say they are going to destroy the world, presumably by realizing they have to collapse the quantum world into classical world by becoming adults. She is happy in the end, because they did not. Yet, but they have shed the skin of the old.

Oppai wants to play school forever in quantum world. She is insecure and pretends to be a teacher to prove that she already graduated and does not need a new world.

Nagara realized he is weak, Nozomi realized her compass only leads to death, the Star-kun realized people do not want him to save them. Science-kun realized the world does not bend to his theories. Students are all disillusioned.

Dog-san says there is no chance for him anymore, he is too old - he spent too much time idling in the post-graduation world and he lost his chance to grasp his fate. But the students still have chance, to apply themselves so to live a life they will not be regretting at the end.

The climax of this episode, the students embracing the change in face of the unknown, is a joyous moment of events that can no longer be stopped, so they may as well enjoy the ride. Hence the choice of the music.

Similarities:
House MD, Life is Strange - climax music
NGE - Ramiel cube
EoE: the depressing beach scene + dead cube looming over horizon
Antichamber - the cube and abstract shifting perspectives
Space Dandy - the apocalyptic climax animation
The Lost - The Arc, moving the cube was a bit like moving the island
Inception - the 4th wall effects and infinite mirror effect

There's so many layers at the 2nd half of the episode that I'm left confused but at awe at how many it tries to subtly communicate. One thing that really piqued my interest is that we can see "A Christmas Carol"-esque thing going on as Nagara saw a version of The Ghost of Christmas Future, a future where he continued running away from his problems. He has problems with his family, problems with his future and he's left friendless. Pixie girl died for some reason, possibly a suicide. It may be a direct continuation if the world didn't "drift away", or in this case, if they didn't drift away.

Confusing but honestly the best episode yet, 10/10. Very excited for the next episode.

Previous episode, Oppai sai to that guy that he "did that" to save them. She probably meant that he created/discovered the weird hole so they would enjoy their life they have and didnt want to break out and die in the dead past or painful future world.

I used to think I somewhat understood this anime. Clearly I don't. And I also very much doubt this is gonna end with them just finding another world where they aren't copies. Idk how it's actually going to end but it's definitely going to be way more trippy

You're not too dumb for the show, you're too smart. It seems to just be made to make dumb people feel smart by watching it and trying to pretend like they understand it.

some of the best scripts of all time were written in one night after a drug-induced epiphany.

That said there is a lot of planning and careful writing going on here. Characters having multiple episode long arcs that slowly grow each episode until a moment of extreme noticeable change.

Something about the teacher always felt wrong. And now, the dog says she might not be the real teacher.

It was too early for the problem to be solved. And, what the dog said about the drifting, only made it more clear that the "teacher" and Asakaze would do something to mess things up.

We finally see the voice of the person that Hoshi talks to.

Hoshi: I don't know what I should think about him. But, I like him. He's very interesting.

Nozomi was dead in the world they went to. I wonder if there's a bigger meaning to that.

The story has so many interesting concepts. It's slow, but every episode leaves us with some clues to the end, and some time to process them, while also letting the characters live. I am really liking it. Can't wait for everything to come together.

Personally, I didn’t like this episode for the whole “ark” portion of it. Had that been paced better or explained more, I would have liked this episode more. And I get that this show isn’t supposed to make sense rn, but I felt like the videos were over explained and the ark was under explained and irrelevant. Idk. Maybe I’m missing something.

The dog said "I don't know the cause of the drift" at first and "This drift was caused by the principal" after a while. Hey, what's happening to the scenario.

When the dog said only students are chosen as drifters, the teacher was wearing a school uniform skirt. It seems a student is disguising herself as the teacher. Incidentally, the same voice actor for the teacher was assigned to a character named Tsubame at the credits of the episode 2. I'm not sure who Tsubame is, but one of the girls who were surfing with Asakaze might be she. Anyway, the teacher should be happy in the current situation with Asakaze.

--- edit ---
I didn't know that all the students' figures and names had been published by the official twitter account in July. For those who'd like to know them, open this:

Wait, so they are dead?! In the first episode we did in fact get a brief glimpse at images of their dead bodies? So essentially they were either being given the opportunity to witness the moments at what life would've be like had they made it past graduation or they were given a chance at fighting for an opportunity to be alive in the real world and unfortunately failed. This is some sort of uber-mystery laced Angel Beats show. It's so confusing but I love it!

I hope all of this weirdness and randomness pays off in the end because I'm not feeling this all that much. The characters are meh and I'm getting a general sense of sloppiness from the whole thing (that I can't explain). Maybe I'm just too dumb for abstract shows like this but I can easily see this being another one of those shows that bit off more than if could chew and totally misses its landing.

Bro, Tsuda is everywhere lmao.

I am amazed though, what a mindfuck spectacle. My knowledge of multiverse and scientific theories and shit is not enough to be able to completely understand the show, but I think I can understand it on the surface level.

Interesting, so Nozomi is dead, she was definitely alive before they drifted. I guess the light she sees is like what dead souls see when they go to heaven or something like that. God is the principal of the school, but why is he doing all this, is it really just for nothing, is God really just rolling the dice? I guess so.

Aki sensei had like a student skirt, but she's clearly a teacher when we saw her at the graduation ceremony, so what the fuck is she. Hoshi definitely has like a God complex or something, mans was building an ark. I wonder what their plan is next, really looking forward to the next episode.

She's most likely the same as Yamada dog. A student from a different year's class who turned into Aki sensei while drifting.

This anime makes no sense, these worlds that they are in are just so weird. I thought Rajdhani was a more scientific type of guy in the end all the things they do are just weird and random (in a bad way). I've never liked abstract ideas and I don't like the art style either.

One of the best episodes so far, that final scene makes me think that the entirety of 'this world' is some sort of purgatory where everyone is dead or something along those lines. I'm also interested to see what they do with this god character.

If Aki-sensei is not meant to drift since she is a teacher it makes me think she is some sort of counterpart to god, maybe like a devil character or something (since this anime seems to be making some references to Christianity with the arc and such).

It feels like there is a lot of clues hidden in this episode

I understand that this show bases its premise on quantum mechanics concepts like relativity or the idea of probabilistics over determinism. Its quite daring, and I like that. But for once, just for once, I would like it to stop treating us like we are suppossed to know everything thats comming or that we are learning at the same time as the characters about whats going on, because there has been many times of asymmetry in the knowledge of the characters with respect to us. I mean, based on this pseudoscientific premise and with that level of knowledge asymmetry, at this point, anything can happen, even if it doesn't make sense at all, and we are just supposed to assume it does because we know nothing or because of "probabilities". I'm afraid that the plot will just drift and the great solution to everything ends up being a huge deus ex machina like "a random characters has the power to solve everything" and just like that, everything is fine and the series is over.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaat...?

Well, quite the trippy episode we got this week. The idea for the "movie theater" world was quite original and now it seems we have some timeline concepts added to the mix. Let's see how that goes.

And as for Aki-sensei, it also seems she may be just another student who received a different "body" after drifting. Similar to what happened with Doggo-senpai.

This episode is now one of Madhouse's biggest achievements in the industry for me.
We are HALF WAY through the series and this episode felt like a finale. Absolutely crazy.

I'm speechless. There's so many angles you can see this episode from and so many lessons you can take from it.

You see how these characters adjust themselves to this new reality and get to the point of concluding that they might not even be who they think there are, but rather a reflection of themselves, and how each of them have to "graduate" by standing up for themselves and refusing to giving up on going home, no matter how slim the possibility.

And this just feels so shallow compared to what you can say about this show. It's chaotic, it's insanely ambitious and follows through in its quality.

I am surprised no one has really mentioned the connection of the principal to the movie Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. In the movie, Peter Sellers plays a former nazi who is an expert on nuclear warheads. The movie is about a false attack from the Soviets leading to a US Air Force General ordering a nuclear strike on the USSR. The movie is a giant paradox about probability.

With a roll of dice, both powers could destroy each other and cause the end of the world. Just as the anime with a roll of dice they could return to their original world. Now does this imply the principal implies Dr. Stranglove, who, with a press of a button, could destroy the world? Does this make Dr. Strangelove the world of the governing world because of his ability to destroy it? Is the principal also the 'god' of the world they inhibit a copy of Dr. Strangelove? I believe that this connection is on purpose and could tell us how the series will end. This episode felt like the last episode of the series and, I had to check to make sure there were still more planned.

The principal's appearance is mainly meant to tell us that the characters do not control the world. Nagara cannot create worlds but can witness them. The characters see themselves in the graduation segment which, was an amazing scene. They find out that they lost a metaphorical coin toss and are the ones who lost. We are following the losers of this coin toss as they are bound to this world. This implies that they are useless and can never be their selves in the old world. They are forever stuck to this world and can never leave. However, they still might have a chance.

There is so much to unpack in this episode that it is really hard to grasp most of the ideas in it. Like how there could be a connection to the warheads in Dr. Strangelove. In the movie, there are two warheads shown. One says "Hi there!" and the other says "Dear John" both are references to American Civil War songs. Specifically, the "Dear John" song is known as Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye. This song is about a man who abandons his child to go to war. The song continues further and talks about how he comes back permanently damaged by war. He is welcomed back but only with pity. In the movie, there is a famous scene where the pilot flies to his death on a bomb. The bomb he was on was the "Hi There!" bomb. This episode, however, was hit with the "Dear John" bomb. We see all of the characters figure out everything is useless and they are worthless. They are only offered with pity as they are just copies of their true selves. They know they are copies, they are faced with the idea that they can't return, and all their efforts were pointless.

I might be thinking too much into this but, to shorten up the characters are powerless. They are just copies and a part of a choice of the principal. They had an illusion of the end light at a tunnel. Yet, when they faced this light with Nozomi's powers, it was false. She is dead in the real world and, the characters find out they are copies. And just as the ending of Dr. Strangelove using the song "We'll meet again" over a montage of bombs destroying the planet, they might have to say goodbye to their world. I could be wrong about all of this but, I hope my rambling cleared up something even if I don't fully understand the show. I look forward to the next episode I hope it's as great as this one.

But I'll ask some of them which bothers me rn-

1. Is the dog actually older or younger to those students?
2. Are all our cast from middle school or high school?
3. The dog said there were some people who tried but failed. Who is he talking about and where are they?

1. Both. He's from their future and has been on the island 5000 years.
2. Middle school.
3. Probably the guy with a foot on his head and the guy who is a giant umbrella with feet sticking out of it that we see at the end of the episode.

i have to lower my score of this show for now

you need some basic quantum mechanics knowledge to understand this episode

so this episode shows the Many Worlds Interpretation of quantum mechanics especially the time travel part that you cannot change the past and if you do go to the past you just gonna create another branch or possibility or new timeline while the old timeline is not gonna be affected so that is how time paradoxes are avoided

god plays dice is what quantum mechanics says so the world is about chances or probabilities rather than classical physics which is deterministic but Einstein famously said that god does not play dice though since his discovery the general relativity means reality is deterministic

i guess the ending will be they gonna exactly time travel to the past where a new timeline or branch of time will be created for all of them

also they might be in Schrodingers Cat state which means they are both dead and alive at the same time so they need self-awareness or observer of themselves or they need to start recognizing each other to finally break out and have a future or outcome

Nozomi is both dead and alive clearly in this episode she is a Schrodingers Cat for example

even Wikipedia has the film analogy of the Many Worlds (or This Worlds like the anime likes to call it) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Many-worlds_interpretation

so this show is not about structure vs agency of social science anymore but the multiverse and hard science too being a huge metaphor of yet another coming of age story

Maybe that's the reason the president god(lol i cant take this s* serious) says the world only exists because of the mc since he's the OBSERVER.

What's the connection between Nozomi and dead bird? Why is she already dead in graduation timeline? This episode answers and raises questions as usual lol. Can't wait for ep 7.
