Damn, Polpo is like Pablo living that in a cell. I wanna be him.

Polpo's stand is one awesome killing machine, to assassinate a soul like that is pretty badass. Gio is so in trouble now, I wonder how is he gonna get out of that situation?

That ended early as I was enjoying this episode.

Eh, I'd argue if he didn't deserve such an ending. We don't know about him that much, but what we do is that he was really vengeful. That splash of water was NOT an accident. Giorno was higher on the stairs, AND taller than him, no chance for him to drop it so high without it being deliberate. He propably wanted revenge for the fact that Giorno didn't help him few scenes before.

Well, that revenge cost him dearly.

Oh come on now, this is nothing more other than a baseless assumption of yours. If he had actually held a grudge, he would have just blasted him with the pump and later claim it was an accident and that he didn't control the flow of water. He just accidently splashed his arms which happened to hold the lighter and that cannot be called a revenge. JoJo is full of "coincidences" likes this unless you can support the theory that the guy actually knew about Giorno's ordeal to join the mafia and how important was the lighter. He was just a minor character who died for being at the wrong place at the wrong time and this happens a lot in this series.

He definitely didn't know about GioGio's mission, but being splashed with water isn't too nice. Being splashed by a car is a whole trope itself. It could've been a coincidense, sure, but at least for me it seemed like revenge.
ESPECIALLY with how he talked about our actions in daily life having meaning, and "If you weren't careful you'd propably wear that bucket of water on your head".

There is literally no reason to believe that, especially since he not only seems to know Giorno by name but also immediately helps him with the lighter.

Really? I haven't read the manga but it seems pretty obvious. The point is that people will fail to keep the flame lit. Then when they relight it Black Sabbath uses the arrow to try and make them stand users. If they get a stand then they can join the mafia.

If the real purpose is to get a stand to join them, why they don't simply use the arrow first to see if he can get a stand, put him to test for a period of time doing some unimportant but related activities while keeping secretly a eye on him, and kill him if they discover his real intentions, because Bruno made clear that they kill the traitors. Thus my point about the lighter test being dumb.

Because if the person isn't worthy, then Polpo has a dead body in his cell room that he has to dispose of somehow?

His visitation privileges would be taken away if that became a recurring thing, and that's a detriment to the gang.

^This. Also all of the Passione members are not stand users, most of them are, but those (rare I guess) that succeeded the test with the lighter don't get a stand but proved their will to join the gang. I can only name Lucca right now, but I think it was mentionned somewhere else that those having "administrative" tasks are not stand users.
That hasn't been mentioned in the anime yet, and Lucca doesn't matter since he died in the first episode, out of screen. Altough we will probably see if that is true or not later.

He would simply escape from prison since he already has the means to do it.

Giorno already mentioned that Polpo is safer in prison than he is outside because of his body. The prison is functionally his hideout. There's no sense in giving up free government approved security for a plan that can be adjusted.

If anything, the flaw of his plan is not being able to immediately know what an applicant's Stand is or if they even have one.

First, that was Giorno's impression, so as he previously thought that there would be no difference if Polpo is in prison or out of it.

Second, since the first impression Giorno had when he saw the cell is that Polpo was a bedroom, that gives us the idea that Polpo could hide himself effectively and use another place as his hideout.

And third, since his stand can take out souls (like those of the D'arby brothers in Stardust Crusaders), he could have used it directly on Giorno, and figure out that he is a stand user, thus making even more pointless the lighter test.

They didn’t do the football scene justice!
In the manga, it clearly shows the change of Buccellati’s facial expressions. When the football hit him on the back, he looked so serious that the boys got scared. But when he turned around and saw the kids, he had this gentle smile on his face and passed the ball back to them, which shows the softness & kindness of his nature.
I doubt the anime-onlies would get all this information from what we have in this episode. They’re probably just like “oh, nice passing skill”.

On the other hand, Black Sabbath looks awesome. He’s much cooler in purple. I was never a fan of his design when I read the manga. Nice change here in this episode~

Polpo was essentially an Italian Jabba the Hutt who can shapeshift into a mattress for some reason. I would've had some questions on how people with his looks manage to exist but I remembered that Shigechi existed lol

That lighter initiation was a really tense ordeal even for Giorno. I was lulled into not considering that that they would mind searching him for the lighter and how the officer at work might not be in Polpo's payroll. He got his hands fried and narrowly avoided every obstacle including Koichi who's trying to reclaim his passport (I never expected him to appear beyond that first episode too!) but that old man screwed both of them over by accidentally putting out the flame at the cost of his life.

Black Sabbath's entrance really captured the horror vibes that come with such a terrifying Stand with the soul extraction and darker color palette and all that. It's fascinating that it has a Stand Arrow in its mouth too. Too bad the old guy wasn't compatible enough to survive that arrow.

Black Sabbath is such a cool stand. It's design, concept, powers, etc. It's all cool. I guess just not the user, lol. And yeah, I can see some people saying it sucks because it can only move within shadows. But a stand doesn't have to be OP to be cool in concept. In fact, having weaknesses kind of makes it interesting. In my opinion, at least.

I wonder how it would look like if Black Sabbath belonged to a vampire, though.

Well, at least I agree with Polpo, though. Being insulting and insulted sucks, lol. Also breaking trusts, fighting too much. Eh, maybe he was just saying that to appear "appealing" to Giorno.

Giorno avenging the old man was pretty cool.

I can tell, the stands in this season of jojo are going to be even more ridiculous than the previous ones. Also, about that test, I think it's not really about keeping the light on, it's more of being honest. Like if you managed to get the light off then just tell him the truth. But Idk
