An old anime on racing cars :O
The cgi is bad but also the series is pretty old so i didn't expected high quality animations
the ost's are something i can easily vibe to

i came.

even though this is my second time watching this.

i had tears of joy watching takumi race. nothing makes me this happy not even watching cgdct which i love watching so much.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.

Nearly forgot Initial D was so old it's on 4:3 watching this today feels so authentic

So who is this ghost driver of the 86 surely it's not Takumi right surely

that was a really good first episode. eurobeat music? HELL YEAH.
cgi looks kinda iffy but i've seen worse, plus it's 1998 so i'll let it slide for this show.
i have high hopes for the rest of this show now.

Okay. Jumping onto the show from the Legend 1 - Awakening movie, so my perspective may be a bit more unique.

The Eurobeat of course is the highlight of this episode. It's the cue to pay attention to what is going on screen. Seeing these cars pushing it on a road like this is cool, but also kind of scary. ... I feel like it would be very easy to end up in the guard rail (like Keisuke pointed out) without being extremely good.

A plus for this show is that there were more characters that I felt like were more relatable and can understand and root for. I especially like Takumi Fujiwara. In spite of his apparent expert ability behind the wheel, he certainly feels more down to earth and real. A similar feeling is with Natsuki Mogi. Normally I get a little nervous about the love interests in shows cause I never really could.. well, understand them. So getting that feeling of down to earth with Natsuki already makes me breathe a sigh of relief.

... Itsuki Takeuchi is a bit much. A bit harsh to his friend Takumi for not really 'getting' cars as much as he apparently does. To Takumi's credit, he responds appropriately enough so I feel like it can be forgiven.

It feels a bit slow, coming off from the movie, but I feel like I won't be disappointed.

Eep Tak is definitely on a foreshadowing game for us. And this Tak boy is definitely trying to hide more secrets than letting it known to his friends, gotta say he's quite the mysterious person.

And to think he'd be lacking in car lingo of the series-contemporary time it's hilarious. such a great driver yet not knowing even freshman stuff to the expertise. Hahaha~

Tuning in for the next episode!!!

yeah the cgi really hasn't aged well but it's fine most of the time.
I've never liked the sugar daddy thing in the story... the show is about dtreet racing and old cars so why is there sugar dating involved

On rewatch, knowing who her "Papa" is kinda ruins Mogi's whole character. I wonder why the author made such a weird choice on that end.

Ah, Initial D. An old comfort watch for me. In fact it was my first ever anime. It has always been a top 3 anime for me personally, and I doubt that will ever change.

Over the next couple of weeks I will be attempting to review every episode of the Initial D series (excluding the Extra Stages and recaps), sharing my thoughts. It is important to note I have a strong bias towards the series, so my opinions may be tainted by said bias, but I will try to write honest and fair reviews. To aid me in leaving a fair opinion, I will be watching the Japanese sub. I have almost exclusively watched this series dubbed before, a method of viewing that I have become rather partial to. It should help me break from some of the nostalgia while watching the show.

As for my thoughts on this episode, I think it did a wonderful job as a pilot episode, introducing the protagonist, side-characters, and main antagonists impressively well. The pacing was well structured, and the plot progressed smoothly, not hanging around on any scene for too long.

However, I found that the dialogue seemed a bit clunky in places. Not poorly written, just a bit robotic or tonally boring.

I do take issue with the introduction of Mogi's "sugar daddy", an inclusion that still perplexes me. Though I will try not to go beyond an episode I'm reviewing in the future, I will say this writing choice holds no narrative significance and feels wrong.

Even though I have watched this series to death, the end of this episode still excites me for the next one.
