This studio came out of nowhere so I had very low expectations but they could not have done a more perfect job for this anime.

The voice actors were spot on, they were perfect with how i'd imagined when i read the manga several years back. The artwork stayed the same as in the manga and for that I was pleasantly surprised. The animation and pacing were just perfect.

I hope they keep this up, it was absolutely amazing. Too bad we don't know how many episodes they will be releasing but this is my series this season.

Ah, I have been waiting for this... then again I already watched ova before so it's no longer my pinnacle of hype. Still with this anime alone this season will be GREAT for me, even when other than this there is just third season of Haikyuu and possible randoms with little hope.

The anime is generally absolutely badass and epic no need to comment on that. What I found interesting though was how the studio tried to play around with mist and shadow effects. Mist turned out well, those shadows though, sometimes it felt awkward so I liked more standard version in OVA better. It was more realistic like that.. but well anime doesn't need to be realistic at all.

Neat! I didn't expect the narrative to be this thought-out and kinda story-heavy, the PV looked more like a pure "you don't need your brain to watch this" action anime. Yes I know we haven't seen much of the series yet, but it seems promising enough to keep your eyes on it.

And the art also looks surprisingly good. I was a bit worried it would take me some time to get used to it after seeing almost only bishonen male characters in anime the last couple of years. But nope, I love the art from the first episode, it's actually alot more rememberable and detailled than any other style I've seen this year so far (if someone asks about Kabaneri, the character designs looked a bit uninspired tbh, the female's eye light effects were the only outstanding thing about it).

Looking forward to see more episodes, this could become one of my favourites of the season.

I didnt liked the scene that they put jokes about history between nobunaga and the mc and a second later it ends up melodramatic with oda talking about his son's death.Comedy doesnt fit in this kind of anime it ruins it,like 1/3 of the episode was like a comedy i mean....I was expecting something "darker".

It'll get darker and bloodier down the road.
i see a lot of different genres things characters and themes in there idk where this will lead....

Nice 1st episode. I like samurai anime. Also seems there'll join some other interesting chars from other countries/eras according to the info I googled about the manga. Hopefully the plot and the action will stay interesting. I usually prefer a historical/japan setting instead of a fantasy world.

Seems a bit like dark fantasy - compared to stuff like Berserk this seems more interesting char-wise.

The art/char design is nice. Looking forward to the next episode. Let's see how many episodes they are going to produce. The manga seems already to be running for some years but not that many chapters (probably monthly release of new chapter and not weekly).

Expected hellsing, and didn't get hellsing.

Meh episode, pretty boring.

Oda looks like a discount Alucard.

So far, I do like where the show is going. Although the comedy, like with Hellsing at times, was a little out of place, even though they were funny...

Despite that, the visuals and animation were really good and the performance of the VA's were great too. =)

Other than that, I'll let the next couple of episodes explain more about why the three of them are together and hopefully will also explain more about the glasses guy in the door hallway.

Overall, a solid start to Drifters. =)

After waiting so long since the PV in Hellsing Ultimate it's finally here

Honestly, the only thing I don't like is the comedy. I usually love comedy but in this show it seems way too forced and unfunny...

4/5. Would have given it an 5/5 because I really enjoyed the action sequences and MC, but man those comedy outburst totally killed the mood during some of the dialogue. Haven't read it, but is the manga like that?

You can tell that a lot of effort went into the animation. But that comedy's going to be a pain to watch, there were far too many out of place comedic moments in the second half. From a dark, detailed background to polka-dots... Ugh.

Was pretty meh for me. This show doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. One moment we have a brutal battle, the next he's in some weird dimension, and then we find him in a alternate world? The comedy was a complete miss for me and felt way out of place. So far all the characters seem really generic..

Well, as one of the people who watched the OVA released in Summer before this, except the scene from the beginning, this was exactly the same content as the first half of the OVA. I guess the second episode will adapt it second half.

Everything I have to said was already commenting in the OVA thread, so I will only add I like the style of the series, even though I don't think it will be as entertaining as Hellsing (I hope I will be proved wrong by the end of this).

A pretty solid start actually and I love the art and character designs; Yoichi was especially beautiful! One complaint I have is regarding the comedy...the timing was all off and it just didn't flow right at all. I hope it's not a reoccurring thing.

Hopefully I'll like this in the coming weeks...it seems like the main three will bounce off of each other pretty well, but I'm curious as to if there's going to be an actual plot other than "let's just kill everything and look cool whilst doing it".

I'm in the minority that didn't actually like Hellsing or Hellsing Ultimate just because of how all over the place the story was, and whilst there are similarities, I'm hoping this one will be a little different.

Also that ending song was pretty great- if my ears do not deceive me, I would say that was Maon Kurosaki??

EDIT: The MC also kinda reminds me of Eren from AoT...think it might be the colour scheme and eyes.

Pretty much the same content as in the OVA, excluding the beginning. Guess we'll continue from where the OVA left off at the third episode. Hooray for it being uncensored, though.

I take it a lot of people in this thread haven't seen Hellsing Ultimate judging from their responses to certain things.

You may as well get used to the comedy because that's just how Kouta Hirano, the creator, does things.

Outside of that, the action was very well directed(as expected of Kenichi Suzuki who did the first 3 parts of JoJo's) and the CG wasn't distracting to me at all. Thankfully there's a solid staff behind this production. Obviously it still won't look as good as Hellsing because those were OVA's released over the course of like 6 or so years. Still the art in particular for this episode was very good.

A promising and fun start and will more than likely be one of my favorites this season.

I still love the fights and characters (especially Oda)

I certainly hope they tone down the pointless comedy for future episodes as it does kill the serious tone of the episode.

Apart from that and the animation, I quite liked this episode. The series has the potential to have a good story if the directors/producers keep it on track. I'll stick around for now.

While I really like the concept and the art style I couldn't help but get the feeling that something was "off" the whole time. It's not necessarily the animation but more so the composition I'd say.

That may be just me but I also couldn't quite get used to the extreme mood swings from comedy and serious time. Takes probably time to get used to it but for the moment it feels very jarring.

I love the visuals of the ED tho!

My thoughts follow that line as well. I came out of the episode thinking that the art was the only redeeming factor. The voice acting was cringeworthy in places, the writing was lacking any punch, the pacing was inconsistent, and the camera shots were all over the place.

First episode is basically the first half of the OVA. I'm certain the second episode will be the other half. Just like the OVA, I enjoyed this episode. The comedy might be off-putting for some people, but I liked it IMO. The animation, sound and action was really good too. Second episode is going to be very good as well.

Relatively faithful drawing style and chara-design (slightly less identical to the manga than the Drifters promo), typical deformed scenes from the mangaka still present. Now, if they could follow the books...

Stark700 said:
Might have to get used to the comedy at some timings but I think it works so far for the show.

@jeongyeon @katsu044 It was foreseeable, Hellsing had the same ingredients.

@Adviel It's not remade. They are simply adding scenes (and maybe fixing some ugly pictures that slipped before) who were skipped for the promotional OAV. Why would they recraft every frame for the first three episodes?
Also, it's a TV show, people are supposed to watch it and then purchase the manga because of it. The OAV being delivered only to manga readers, it wouldn't make sense to skip this part.

On a side note not sure how anyone has watched anime for any length of time and not at least know something about Nobanaga Oda and his time period seeing he cropes up in tons of stuff. Also plenty of games as well.

So this is about historical figures which didn't die but were sent to this world or whatever and are now called Drifters. Possibly because they can move from one world to another like drifting souls or something. The visuals felt a bit weird. The colors were cool but the animation wasn't really stellar or anything. And it had a seemingly grim serious overall environment because of those colors which made that comedy feel weird and out of place and less funny. They're in a serious talk with them suspicious of each other, the environment is serious, the colors are dull, and next thing you know they're plucking feathers off a duck ponytail guy just caught. The transition between comedy and seriousness is kinda off here. I kinda expected as much from the latest PV, but this really isn't good at all. Kinda feels like they wanted to be a serious show about whatever but still wanted to try and be funny. I'm not sure about the former, but they certainly aren't doing well in the latter. I'll see how the story progresses. I'm a bit interested in these Drifters and those people who were spying on them for whatever reason.
