Good episode.
I'm glad we got to see more about oni-chan's daily activities. That girl at his workplace is in love with him huh.

Actually, the show is quite hilarious. Just because you have a deplorable level of shit taste doesn't mean the show is unfunny. You seem to be the only one complaining.

And this scene was him showing appreciation for him having his sister in his life. Even if she's a shut-in and a slob, she's still family whom he loves and enjoys having her around and seeing her when he gets in the door.

Yeah, because no matter how well elaborated your opinion is, if it's opposite to mine then you have shit taste, end of story.

You think I don't get what that scene is trying to say, don't you? If she is 12 then I'll probably cut her some slack, but she is already 16, she should be helping out with some of the housework, it's not like she doesn't know how busy her brother is all the time trying to put food on the table and what she is doing is plain exploitation both mentally and financially, we have 4 episodes of material to show what a spoiled brat she is, maybe Taihei is one bad mother fucker who can tolerate all these behavior just because Umaru is his little sister, and that's the what a "family's bond" to him, but for a comedy that needs to work by provoking my sympathy for both characters, I can't, I guess I could say I pity Taihei for being a considerate, hardworking and thoughtful brother yet receives little to no respect from Umaru. Even the three trouble makers in Mitsudomoe have some kind of redeemable traits, and they are just grade schooler.

Well elaborated? Your opinion is "oh, I don't find this show funny because a fictional character doesn't do housework".

You're goddamn right I'm going to say you have shit taste when you're "argument" consists of whining about a fucking fake character's laziness.

Why am I not surprised by your response? If you can't even see me criticizing the core appeal of this show, which I have already said is because the main character we are supposed to root for has no appealing quality but the anime plays it like it's the best thing ever, it's a problem far more serious than "characters don't behavior the way I expected them to", then there's no point to continue, I could just as easy to look at your list and say you have shit taste like what you have done to me, but why bother to show signs of intelligence or self-control when you can make yourself feel better by labeling others having "shit taste"? Please don't even take time to response because we both know we have better things to do other than continuing a pointless argument here. At least I do.

From what I've known about the show if I was Umaru's brother I would definitely not having this expression when I just came home from a long hard and unsatisfying labour and seeing my "cute" sister who had shown no signs of actually family bond laying down on the floor sleeping when she had made a mess of the apartment,

It's really simply, have her washes the dishes, that's it, but again I have to remind myself the show is either made by someone who has no idea what's like to live with an actually sibling or work in an office, or they just don't care because the target audience of this anime don't care neither. I was hoping having Masahiko Oota to direct the show would at least give it some comedic value, but I guess it's just proven having no expectations is the best way to enjoy anything.

Decided to quote this to avoid the arguing.

Yes, Umaru chan in her himouto persona is very bratty towards her brother. However, and I might go a little spoilery here

The anime started showing us the worst characteristic of each character, but as the story progresses, we see more sides of them that explains their strange behaviour and so.

In conclusion, this show won't stay on the himouto gags only, it will progress into something better.

If only someone in the production team realized that they could have started the character development, especially Umaru's right from the first episode; After a whole day of misbehave, have her voluntarily helping onii-chan to carry some of the groceries after the flashback, as a "generous" compensation for what he has done for her or whatever, showing she is not a total self-absorbed and inconsiderate sister, but an annoying yet adorable sister who can be thankful not just with words but also with actions. It's a really simple characterization trick that I thought anyone would have made the changes when they just take a look at Umaru's perfect, even self-gratified character.

At least Umaru has the moe blob thing going for her! Kirie doesn't even have that!
For me so far it's Ebina<->Sylphyn-------------------------------------------->Umaru->Kirie

Apparently to some learning how to take care of yourself and be independent by taking some minor responsibility is equal to slavery. It's both amusing and sad at the same time.

Eh...well, if I were to explain in detail, we would go deep into the psychological part of the story...and i'm not a psychologist ^__^;

But to put it simple: For unknown reasons, Umaru has a certain kind of image in her high school and she keeps playing it in order to be liked by all, but this makes also her lonely since no many people are really close to her, and by this I mean friends.

Once at home, she can be her real self and feel more relaxed, she actually loves her oniichan because he knows who she really is and still accept her. But then, Umaru wants to spend more time with Taihei, yet he has work and neglects her in the companionship department.

This all I took from the first 2 episodes.

What about the way Umaru tricked onii-chan into entering the contest to win a plushie for her by making him feel guilty for not spending quality time with her in the second episode? To me that's the breaking point, before that I got the idea that Umaru is an attention-seeker in front of her brother, okay I rolled with that, but after that when she exhibited the manipulative side of her coupled with what I've seen before like begging onii-chan to play with video game her on Sunday morning, it's hard not to dismiss any kind of character development is just an afterthought.

Umaru doesn't seem to understand how tiresome her brother's job is. Yeah, one thing is explaining her and other very different to live the experience. She can't grasp his situation.

Also, she is a loner, or at least she considers that herself. She's trying to get the most of her manipulative manners.

Not that I condone that kind of behaviour. I would kick her in the face, honestly. But people change. Just don't ditch someone for a first impression.

Anyways, you might have noticed how those who have read the manga emphatize with Umaru more than those who haven't. If you wanna know why, then read the manga.

Nice to see some of Taihei's work life aswell, his colleague's "suki" was the best! :D

This show is so funny. I absolutely love it. The interactions between the characters are great, especially Umaru and Sylphynford. She's the best.

Yea, Umaru is a selfish slob but it just adds to the comedic moments of the show. It's great to have an anime with a younger sister who isn't waiting on her "onii-san" hand and foot like she's his flippin' maid/wife. They have a pretty NORMAL younger sibling/older sibling relationship. It's refreshing.

The office that Taihei-oniichan works for has an old-school Bundy clock system? I though nowadays biometrics is now a standard??
anywayz, Tachibana Sylph couldn't even notice that UMR is also Umaru chan!
"adorable shiawase!" is on the mind of Kirie even while falling asleep with Umaru!
Kirie still awkward with Ebina...
what was that thing that could make bubbles on the Ofuro part??!?

Very nice episode! I loved Sylphin, she's so hilarious. desu waaaa~
Onii-chan is such a hardworker, I really like that about him. It's so frustrating to see Umaru being so ungrateful to him though, I think that's the only thing that keeps bothering me.
And it still annoys me to no end the selfish things she does, like taking the bubbles soap for her bath or making a mess on the house...

Anyway, still very good.

Aww, Sylphine's logic is actually kind of cute ... defeat your rivals and become friends! :3 Looks like that's what's happening between her and UMR ... too bad she doesn't know it's actually Umaru :P It was cute seeing her go shopping with Kirie and Ebina too ... except she actually bought a game D: Although what the heck she has like 50 of those hamster hoodies ... holy crap lol O_O
Taihei's such a good person ... loved seeing what happened at the workplace :O Such a hard worker and even giving Umaru money to buy clothes ... ahh, I wish I had an older brother like him! Then always going home to make dinner and breakfast ... hopefully Umaru will start appreciating him soon, some character development there would be great :3 To be honest I was expecting her to have dinner waiting for him when he got home for some reason ... but yeah, that grin though!!! So cute :P I bet his coworkers would be jealous of his "average" sister haha XD

The "I love you" came out of nowhere, lol. The best part of the episode though however, is at the end, where Taihei seems happy to see his sister back at home, she's his stress reliever in a way. :)

As for "this show isn't funny anymore", I personally find that it gets better as it goes, not funnier, but better. The beginning was sort of meh.
