Ginga-Bishoujo said: the nature of the power of a mahou shoujo is linked to the wish they make upon their contract. This lead me to beleive that Madoka is said to have the strongest potential because she has the strongest ambition. She could wish for many thing but she is humble enough for not wanting anything and deal with what she has at hand. She even go witch hunting without any power to protect herself. She's not the kind of people to 'waste' her wish for someone which can be considered a weakness, kindness being something bad for a mahou shoujo. She's not the kind of people to ask for power or fame, basically she knows no greed. She will be the strongest because her wish is humble and noble, a sign of strengh courage and devotion. That would also explain why Kyubei talk about 'potential' rather than magic capacity. If the nature of the wish determine the mahou shoujo then it is not something written in stone as she hasn't made her wish yet. She only is inclined to make the wish that will grant her the strongest power and that is her potential. Since Kyuubey's been actively pushing for a contract with Madoka on every opportunity, even go as far as create situation that requires a mahou shoujo as a convenient solution, I don't think the content of the wish matters. Madoka simply has lots of latent potential, which both Kyuubey and Homura see, why? Don't know. |

"Thanks you, but I think that the spacial reconstruction theory is more retarded than people saying Kyubei is a pervert. Seriously how hard is that to understand that Homura's power is wind based as we've ALREADY SEEN IT. Spacial reconstruction based on a pipe changing place in the background? This is Shaft, I suggest people to go watch some of their other show." I dont see how Homura's power is also related to the wind, through i could see her transportation or fast speed as seen in episode 1 and episode 3. And I stand by my argument that teleportation is just microscopic spatial reconstruction of the molecules at a 2 particular points in space and time, just like how information is created and destroyed in quantum computing. Does not mean that I think Homura has spatial reconstruction ability. In fact, Homura is still mysterious at this point of time, both in her actions and her words. "And before people go saying that magic is impossible to begin with then don't bother. In madoka's world magic is something that exist, most probably with it's own law unknown to normal physic but something that definitively exist in the whole that is this world. That meant that the chance of a magical phenomenon, limited to it's own law, happening do exist in this world and kyuubei trigger it but he still can't do anything about something that is impossible." Just a comment: The concept of magic is relative. Magic is only used by people who does not know the concept behind a phenomenon. The rest of your comments are already being addressed and heard in /a/, so i would not go over into that. And to mention about concept of analysis and philosophy, I do believe that this concept is being misused, as demonstrated in this forum. Analysis means the rational outlook of the situation in order to gain coherent information from it. It is different from speculation. And philosophy is a noble course, aimed to ask the great questions of the universe. So lets cut the words, particularly the concepts of deep, analyzing and philosophy in this aspect, because really, it is just plain old speculation, and it is vaild, from what i can see, provided that people does not label it as absolute truth. In fact, truth truth...(to infinity) could not be conceptualized. Deconstruction is another branch of philosophy (Derrida) that gets misunderstood as a subject. But as long as this word gets understood by most people as another different concept, I guess that compromise is fine itself. |

I mean, i'm all for theory but most of the people don't get how thing happened and base their theory on misconception. I have to agree and disagree. Kyubei was not to blame for Sayaka getting attacked by Fang chick, but he was openly trying to push Madoka into being a Mahou Shoujo. Although I don't remember his/her wording exactly, it was something along the lines of "If you become a Mahou Shoujo right now then you could stop this. If you don't, well, your friend is either going to be seriously injured or killed. Of course you won't be directly responsible, you know it will still be your fault because you had the chance to stop it and you didn't." It's obvious in that scene that he was trying to force Madoka into a corner. I wouldn't be surprised if Kyubei planted the seed that spawned the witch that killed Mami. How he was acting afterwards was like he was trying to guilt Madoka into a wish. Just like how he was going to look for a 'new' Mahou Shoujo and yet when Sayaka was at her weakest, he just happens to show up. It's all way too convenient for the little guy. He may not be 'supposed to influence them', but you can tell he subtly is. Sneaky little booger. Again, it's all theory, but I can definitely see how it's all falling into place there. Just like the subtle imagery during the contact forming with Sayaka, how at certain angles he looked like a 9 tailed fox, a traditionally tricky and cursed creature in Japanese legend. |

If QB was really neutral, he would give Sayaka the same amount of information he gave Kyouko. Yet he informs Kyouko about Sayaka and Homura, and doesnt utter a word to Sayaka about another MS planning to attack her. But in the end he might not be the devil. Maybe Madoka is needed to safe the world, and he simply uses every means possible to make her sign a contract, including putting her friends in mortal danger. |

Seriously I don't want a critic of my oppinion if you aren't really going to take a position. This is not bad, it is just really annoying. Homura's power are related to wind because in ep 1 when Homura was chasing Sayaka and Madoka, Sayaka used a gas tank to divert her and Homura used wind to nullify the gas. Also a teleport user cannot be hit that easely and wouldn't have been binded by Mami's magic, now if she is only using speed then everything else make sense because the monster that hitted her was faster than her and when you are binded by something you can't get away with only speed. |

I have a sneaky suspicion I know where the witches come from do you remember when Kyubei looked gleeful over the idea of Madoka wishing for power, perhaps witches are magical girls who wished for power. I know it makes very little sense but it would be the nastiest thing they could do. |

Kyubey was definitely trying to exploit the situation and trying to manipulate Madoka into making a wish. The fear and grief that Madoka has felt so far does lead one to suspect Kybey's motives. Almost reminds me of Star Wars about anger, fear, aggression in relation to fallen Jedi. Also with the fact of Mami dying while playing the mentor role follows the theme in Star Wars as well where the mentor dies (ep. 1 - Qui-Gon, ep. 4 - Obi-Wan) and the apprentice/padawan picks up the pieces... Miki's strong sense of justice will definitely get her killed, even with the regeneration. I predict she will likely die horribly from either powerful acid or a blazing inferno. Now I wonder if that healing/growth will turn into cancer for a certain revived violinist? |

Well that whole becoming a Masou Shoujo part at the beginning was ... interesting Didn't really expect Homura to jump into the fight ... That being said the fight was pretty awesome :P Kyouko is pretty interesting too, except for the whole "you should let the familiars hatch before hunting them" ... so there are definitely different types of Masou Shoujos out there Anyways, so since Sayaka chose her wish for healing = strong healing abilities, does that mean your powers are based on your wish? :O Magical transformation sequence was pretty awesome XD |

Interesting how each girl's power reflects her wish...Mami wished for Kyebey to save her life, so she's constantly surrounded by 'life' (flowers, trees etc), Sayaka wished for that boy's recovery so she has incredible recovery skills, Sakura can eat while fighting...dunno if that's related to her wish though! This just keeps getting better :-D |

For once, the action is about magic girl vs. magic girl, as opposed to someone fighting random monsters in an acid trip. It's a nice change. Sayaka's the incorruptible hero of justice that every show needs, and she's a pretty likable character. But damn, given her reckless "I must protect everyone" attitude and the fact that she basically signed her death warrant with Kyuubey, I fear that she won't last too long. A depressing thought, really--but it adds a lot to the despondent atmosphere. Homura's intervention was damn cool. Guess her power's teleportation (or space-time manipulation)? She does seem to know a lot more than everyone else. Can't wait to see what she has to reveal. Argh...can't seem to stop watching this show. |

im starting to see it now...although i should've picked it up way earlier its not about magical girl vs witches so much.. its also about homura vs kyuubei homura is really the "good guy" in this series. she is protecting people from joining the terrible world as a magical girl - a sort of savior in a way. kyuubei, is manipulative in an incredibly effective way. one can argue that what he is doing is necessary (protecting people from witches), but...its like how homura/mami talked about it...its a thankless, lonely, and depressing existence as a magical girl. 10/10 this series is excellent. tons of thematic elements and underlying morals |

Well i guess i was i right, i did expected Madoka becoming a MS in this episode but Homura stepped in to save Sayaka so it's fine. There's something about Homura that makes me wonder, how did she became a MS if she didn't contract with Kyubey (Contract with the Devil...) is she really special? Good? Evil? PS. just a thought of mine, this show uses the facade of a Mahou Shoujo to lure viewers into it and then shows his true colors, but i can't imagine a 12 year old kid watching this!! i mean it may look like innocent on the outside but if a kid were watching this (like episode 3..) it feels i don't know wrong? A really nice episode that is more like a transitional one. Telling us how Sayaka signed her contract (if you wanna ask me a really interesting dark not fluffy/sweet/easy way) and introduced us to the new character Sakura Kyoko and her goals... Or at least ways... and acts. Now that I mention Sakura-tan, she’s more like the not good nor entirely bad girl, just someone that wanna make their way and no other one. Is true that Familiars, like the one we encountered this time –BTW found him a bit punny and troll-type thingie... poor little one got severely harassed–, kill humans but has been shown that they don’t carry Grief Seed, thus the most important tresure for MS since using magic means your Soul Gem gets dimmer each time... Hmmm.. but really she’s more like the ammoral type up to this point. Her pwers are really awesome... I liked her Lancer-like weapon. She’s got skillz too! I love her handling... A really powerful MS Talking about Soul Gems: It’s obvious that they represent your own Soul, your power, your wish and your will to be a MS. They’re the cointainers of your power thus this dimming being an analogy to losing power but also at the same time could be seen as tainting thus implying that using magic makes you evil thus this analogy to tainting your souls you’re a Sinner when using magic aka then again comes my Seven Deadly Sins theory... but again I got nothing else to sustain it... thus I’m reserving it a bit mre until proved right... I don’t know but it’s clearly shown that our dear furry friend Kyuubei extracts it out of your soul and gives you the power, obviously with some pluses or minuses according to the wish you made to make the contract. Which was surprising revalation later on... Kyoko’s (who reminds me a lot fo Asuka •_•) claimed that her attacks should have ridden poor Sayaka heavily injured, but was ‘protected’ by one of her special abilities, super human regenaration. It’s indeed a nice plus when it comes to fighting and it’s another reason WHY you need to give a serious thought on what you’re going to wish. Obviously Madoka has clearly realised this and makes her decision even harder. The poor girl can’t handle it and she’s not calm with it and pretty much explains her whinny indecisive, annoyin attitude, which is a bit unbearable, but dude she has the potential to change the world! Tomah said: First claim might be just a analogy... but who knows maybe that’s the case. In my eyes that’s not relevant up ‘til now. Will be when Madoka tries to bring back the dead...So we learn some pretty interesting stuff: - According to Homura you can't revive the dead, so her and/or Sayaka's death is not likely to trigger Madoka's contract. - You gain special powers according to your wish? Wow, now there are even more reasons to let Madoka's wish for a very important time, so that she gains some crazy abilities and justify Homura's worries. - When Kyubey answered "Maybe, maybe not" to Kyouko's question, it raised the possibility of time traveling: "Maybe, but not in this time". Since Homura is quite powerful (for our standards) and is trying to save girls from becoming mahou shoujo, how come no one knows her? Though it is also possible that Kyubey has some sort of clones or something. Wasabi said: But that, plus the fact that she won't become mahou shoujo so easily, is precisely the show's entire point from beggining. Didn't Homura just say that those traits are terrible for mahou shoujo?Am I the only one getting irritated by Madoka's typical mahou shoujo attitude? "I JUST WANT EVERYBODY TO BE NICE AND HUG EACH OTHER COOKIES AND CREAM LA LA LA LA~" It's like she sees everything in a constant pink flowery color. i don't know when/why madoka will/would become a Mahou Shoujo, but it better not have the following You forgot "if". Also, A and B are incredibly appropriate, actually. I mean, all the circumstances are making us cheer for Madoka NOT to become mahou shoujo and get stuck in this world of competitive, selfish girls who risk their lives and that of others for their own sakes. So a wish like B (though quite a bit ridiculous, but that's the point) would make Madoka a different mahou shoujo.A.in the last 2 minutes of the series. B.have some retarded wish like for that cake Mami talked about. Just as I said above... Totally agree with you... has lots of potential... that’s obvious. I wonder what kind of power she will bear when she makes the contract and transforms into a MS Oh Kyubei and his “maybe, maybe not” quote... he’s a sly slippery weasel... Damn that thing... Really I don’t really know what he pretends... Well he clearly wants Madoka to have a contract with him... Why? Who the Hell knows... But he’s anxious to make the contract... he’s obviously pushing (putting in dearing situations) Madoka too far imo and he’s breaking the Contract Rules... Are there more being like Kyubei? (rawwr please, I hope that’s not the case that would be one of a Hell world) You know that’s the point of the whole anime so far... doesn’t matter how or when Madoka transforms in a MS is why she transforms!!! In fact she’s the one that’s avoiding the whole thing and trying to not transform yet. Also at the same time she’s the purest one at the moment pretty much the reason why she carries that annoying attitude of sugary pinku atmosphere... It’s a mahou shoujo and she’s one of the embodimients of Mahou Shoujo genre in the Anime! IchigoParfait7 said: Certainly Mami is a realistic Madoka up til know... Such a shame she had to die but she’s clearly an important one since she introduced our heroines to the MS world. But also why she did that since she already knows it’s a lonely job... Was she controlled by Kyubei? So does that mean that Kyubei can control anyone who makes a deal with him, aka he can control Sayaka and Kyoko too? :/I think Mami was like their introduction into the Mahou Shoujo world. She showed them witches, soul gems, grief seeds and taught them the basics of being a mahou shoujo. She educated them on how to fight and she fought to protect innocent citizens. To me thats a great mentor figure and her death was shocking but I think it had to happen. It made Madoka realize being a mahou shoujo isn't all rainbows and lollipops!!! Its an incredibly lonely and hard job where your life is on the line 24/7. Mami’s mistake was being over confident I think. IF i were in her position I would of always been wary and not get big headed or else you'll lose your head. These fight scenes look alot more physically taxing them in other mahou shoujos where they just say some magic words and the job is done~ Its like Mahou shoujo lyrical nanoha. Nanoha didn't know any magic as she used her magic more and more she got better and better. She struggled and she was defeated. But she persevered and got to bet one of the best. Indeed this battles seem way harder than the usual ones of other Mahou Shoujo shows... feels like usual mahou shoujo strain is mental, not physical like here in PMMM... Yumekichi11 said: No idea what perfectly aligned cars could mean... To be honest I didn’t noticed them until you pointed them out... Personally think it was just SHAFT’s quirly way to show us they’re mind-fucking us and having fun doing the show, tho I find the scenery particullary different. You know what I mean... You look at the nature and you can see that it’s clear and pure as it should be, but you look at the counterpart, you can easily see that the city (Kitahira or something like that >>) is highly industrilised... Windmills, factories everywhere, busy lightful business districts, tall buildings... That irks me lots.. Also what the fuck with the hospital building... seriously is it 160 stories long? My... now that’s a huge ass Hospital... a really ginormous place for witches to breed and appear... About miscellaneous things, for one I am not sure of this but is there any meaning to the perfectly aligned cars? I find it kind of strange to put them there. Kind of find it weird that Kyoko put a barrier like that but that very barrier has inside of it Kyoko's symbol that she has embedded in her body. fffan9391 said: Hahaha YES! Me thinks the same... You damn fruggin annoyin furry being.... I’m already tired of his pushy demands and urges to make Madoka a damn MSKyubey drives me insane. He's like an annoying timeshare salesman. Taihaku said: Muahahaha... lol.. Tho you’re right that it was predictable Homura’s appearance to save the day, but seriously that doesn’t matter... really follow my way: Doesn’t matter if it’s predictable, you started it for a reason so just have fun watching. Forget everything else you’ve watched and enjoy it. :-PSo I REALLY do not like this anime too much. I find it boring at some parts and cliche in others. I had this anime dropped after episode 2 but my friend convinced me to watch episode 3. For once that episode did something I didn't expect and because I hated Mami in the first place i was satisfied with that episode. When that death occurred I knew what would happen though or at least judging with episode 1 and 2 I knew what might happen. One of them would use their wishes to bring Mami back. My friend really likes this show so to make it interesting i made a deal with him that if Mami came back from one of their wishes and everything went back to normal, I would drop this show completely if she doesn't come back like that then i'll watch it to the end. However last 2 episodes have been back to being predictable. I mean come on who didn't see Homura coming in to stop the fight? The entire second half of the fight I was hoping cheering on Fang-tan to kill the friend and main character resurrecting her and Mami back so that I could finally drop the show for being too predictable. But it was so obvious Homura would come so very obvious and of couse she comes in and cock blocks madoka. So my hate of the predictability in this show has backfired on me Homura has prevented me from dropping this show. Dam you Homura! Hmmm Homura’s powers, or source of her powers: No idea about them. I will make no comments about them until I see something certain... Air bender? Time and space manipulation... I’m not certain of any, I just can say that she’s quite powerful. Oh and the bg episode... I’m not so sure about it... but it may be animation inconsistency... doesn’t matter didn’t pay attention to it... Maybe Homura’s Powers nature will be revealed next episode... Also noticed until now... But looks like MS got their own signature mark... Homura got this purple diamond shape on her middle finger nail, Sayaka got this Blue C like thing... No idea of Kyoko’s or Mami’s sign... but it was a nice addition... reminds me of Sailor Moon and their crowns :P Signs, Green |

Kyubey really irritate me in this episode. His constant nonchalant way of asking Madoka to make contract with him really make him like he's indeed the real villain in this series. Kyouko's and Sayaka's battle scene really awesome. I like Kyouko's weapon (a lance) which can divided into a number of parts (like a nunchaku). Sayaka's blade kinda resemble Mami's gun, which can be multiplied. For a moment I thought Madoka (finally) gonna make her contract...Luckily Homura saves the day~ |
